•Odette•

“Don’t make it sound as if it’s a big deal. As a businessman, of course I have to go into deep research about a product before investing in it. That’s just common sense, isn’t it?” Draven reasoned, making me appear like I lacked the common sense he was talking about.

“And I’m sure you’ve done the same towards me, haven’t you?” Draven’s smile broadened.

Yeah, right. Draven’s personal life was completely unknown to the world. The only things I could get my hands on about him were from gossip blogs and business magazines.

Even at that, I still barely knew him.

The lines about him being calculating, ruthless, and unpredictable were everywhere. No one ever mentioned the specifics. Just the end results.

“There’s not much info about you available to the public. My research on you can’t even be defined as research.” I admitted with a sigh just before the waiter returned with our orders.

“Public? You’re not the public, Odette Valmont. You should consider yourself privately mine.” Draven reached for my hand that was resting on the table.

His warm lips made contact with my skin, and this time, I didn’t pull away. But the tingles that ran down my spine actively worked to make me lose my composure.

Even after the kiss ended, Draven still didn’t let go of my hand. He used his thumb to massage my hand, as though enjoying the feel.

“Your hand is so soft…” he whispered, his voice nearly inaudible.

My lips parted on their own as I began to breathe through my mouth.

Did they turn up the conditioning here? Why could I feel beads of sweat forming on the surface of my nose?

Before I got the chance to excuse myself to the powder room, Draven slowly withdrew his hand with a wicked grin, looking very self-accomplished.

I instantly retrieved my senses and straightened my back. My eyes narrowing and my lips growing thinner, I stared at Draven with hateful intent.

To this, he laughed carefreely. “You need to learn how to accept my touch. I can’t have you squirming here and there when I fuck you in bed.”

Clank!

The sound of a tray collapsing on the floor disrupted the moment. Everyone naturally turned to the source of the noise. Draven and I were even faster to do so as the tray had fallen right next to our table.

It was a female server with a bright red face. She picked up the tray as quickly as she could with darting eyes that never met mine and Draven’s faces.

“I’m so s-sorry. I d-didn’t mean to. Sorry!” she exclaimed with an embarrassed expression, then vanished in an instant.

She totally heard us.

I covered my face with my palms. I got the feeling that my face was probably as red as that server’s.

What was with this crazy man and saying vulgar things?

“Ha!” And Crazy Draven was amused by the fact that someone had heard him say such nonsense.

I peeked through my palms to glare at him. I never really had any opinion on this man and had always thought of him as someone to stay away from like my parents had advised.

But now, I hated him.

“What? Are you going to hide behind your hands all night because of a few words? Your food’s getting cold. Go on, eat.” Draven said to me, acting like the last few seconds hadn’t happened.

Right on cue, the enticing smell of the seafood ramen wafted around my nose, almost getting my stomach to growl aloud.

I had skipped lunch to make room for quality dinner. Why did all my choices these days seem to backfire on me?

I sighed and resigned to my fate. Even though I hated Draven, I needed him for now.

I picked up a spoon and began to scoop the soupy ramen. The flavor danced on my taste buds and I almost moaned in satisfaction.

Draven and I ate silently for a few moments before he spoke up.

“We had been discussing something before…”

I blinked as the words, “I can’t have you squirming here and there when I fuck you in bed,” replayed in my head.

“You must have really done a poor job of digging up information about me.” Draven said.

My senses dulled for a second before I realized that he had been referring to our earlier line of discussion. I mentally facepalmed myself.

I was getting more and more retarded because of the amount of time I was spending in this man’s company.

“It’s not my fault that you do an excellent job of keeping your private life private.” I bit out.

Draven welcomed my words with a smile, then said, “If you ever want to know anything about me, just ask. I’ll do my best to be honest with you.”

“Really??” I was completely taken aback by his words.

“Of course. You’re to be my wife. I read somewhere that the more secrets you keep from your wife, the more trouble you’ll find yourself in when she discovers the secret herself.”

Draven using the word, ‘wife’, to refer to me set me off in a way that I wasn’t certain how it made me feel.

“I see…” was all I could say at the moment.

But Draven didn’t seem content. “This is your time now, Odette Valmont. Ask me whatever you want to. I’ll answer your questions with the utmost sincerity now. But I might be too lazy to give out any info on another day.”

This bastard. His offers always came with a twist that seemed to favor him in some way.

“Okay, then. Tell me this: what did you mean by I should count my losses and send them to you on the day of my birthday? You also said something about not liking to see wasted potential. I didn’t understand…”

At the end of my question, my voice grew weaker once I noticed the flicker of disappointment in Draven’s eyes.

I felt like he was scolding me with his eyes. An expression that I was used to receiving from my father.

“You really know nothing about me.” Draven said with a low voice, then chuckled to himself.

He sucked in a sharp breath and clasped his hands together. “I meant exactly what I said, Odette Valmont. If you can’t understand, that’s a you problem.”

“Pardon?”

“You heard me right.” Draven shifted his gaze from my face to his plate and said, “Sigh. My tongue suddenly feels tired.”

Fuck it. I knew he was lying when he said he was going to answer any question with the utmost sincerity.

From all the little exhibitions of his character that he’d shown to me recently, I’d made a firm conclusion about his personality.

Draven Lockwood was nothing but a cunning liar driven by perversion.

•Odette•With the use of my peripheral vision, I watched Draven, finding it difficult to peel my eyes off him. We were seated at the back of one of his cars on the way to meet with his grandfather for dinner.I should be nervous. I should be thinking of how to perfect a loving act with Draven in front of the man. Yet, all I could think about was two nights ago.An incident that I half remembered. I couldn’t remember from the point where Draven had reminded me to pick up my purse in the private lounge. I couldn’t remember how I got home.I damn well couldn’t remember who had taken off my heels and given me a foot massage. Even though I couldn’t remember, I knew that it wouldn’t be anyone other than Draven.Only he would know my address and how to get into my house without my personal assistance. As crazy and criminal as he was. I never thought he would care about me enough to the point where he would rub my feet. I must have been in pain, no doubt about that. Every day in heels from d

  • The Fake Heiress’s Ruthless CEO   17: Lash Serum

•Draven•My right lash line hurt like crazy after getting the lashes there plucked by a drunk Odette Valmont. I exhaled through my mouth, trying to ease the pain.I stared at Odette’s dewy eyes and pouty pink lips after she answered my question. She didn’t even act like she’d done any wrong. My lack of follow-up words made her cock her head to one side, letting her thick brown hair cover the right side of her face.“What lash serum do you use?” she asked, her light brown eyes growing brighter as she fixated on my own eyes; my lashes, probably.“Odette’s personal lash-growing serum.” I answered without thinking.“Really??” She bounced on her toes, excited to be told what she must consider a super top secret.“No. That’s a lie.” I pulled her closer to me and stretched a hand to stop an incoming cab.“How could you?” Odette spoke with a betrayed tone.I didn’t look at her because I had already pictured her face in my head, and just the imaginary visuals could send me spiralling. “Keep

  • The Fake Heiress’s Ruthless CEO   16: Goody-two-shoes

•Odette•It happened in my first year of high school. My parents had been all up in my business at the time, breathing down on my neck. And that should have been around the time I started to do things in the company, creating my personal designs and refining the ideas I found old in Eve.Of course I hadn’t been paying attention to boys and likes. Even though everyone my age was. My parents had it engraved into my head that I was going to get married to Tristen no matter what.Playing around would only get me in trouble and give me hopes that would get crushed in the long run. I believed them, I obeyed them.Which was why I sent away every boy who came my way. “I have a marriage partner already. Please, find someone else to like.”I had said these words almost a thousand times in my youth. Some of the boys I said then to had just been naturally attracted to me. Most had been attracted to my last name. Either way, I couldn’t be with them.Henry Hawk had come into my life in an interes

  • The Fake Heiress’s Ruthless CEO   15: All the best things

•Odette•My hands were tense on the steering wheel as I parked my car. It was a different one from the car I’d driven to see my father days ago.I couldn’t ride that one anymore.A lump formed in my throat as the frightening memory refreshed in my head. They knew my secret? A secret that I’d suppressed so deeply in the back of my mind that I could hardly even remember the details? That one?Fuck whoever thought they could threaten me.I grabbed my purse and alighted from the car. I was dressed in a formal blue gown this evening that went off the shoulder. The length ended around my knees and had a long slit at the back. The unreasonably high heels on my feet were killing me as I strutted, probably because I’ve been on them all day, going from place to place to personally inform and invite people to the wedding. All that, just to have Draven ring me to tell me he wanted me to meet up with his closest friends who’d be present at the wedding. I was to act as naturally as possible. I w

•Draven•“Are we really your friends?” Henry whined, aggrieved, before emptying a shot of vodka. He planted the glass on the drinks table and leaned over to rest his head on my shoulder. His big curly brown hair found its way to my mouth. I frowned and shoved him with my elbow.“Don’t touch me.” The warning was filled with irritation. If the kid knew better he’d behave himself. However, he didn’t.He brought his legs up to the leathery cushion, squeezing his lean build as he knelt on the chair. Just so he could grab my left arm tightly and act spoiled. “Rave, I can’t believe you would do this to us. You don’t love us anymore because of her, right? And you never even told us about her!” While prying off Henry’s lean fingers from my arm, his older cousin, who was the last person in the private lounge with us, spoke up.“Stop being annoying, Hen. This is literally the reason why Rave didn’t tell you in particular about Odette.” Adrian said monotonously, wearing his signature straight

  • The Fake Heiress’s Ruthless CEO   13: Are You?

•Odette•After leaving the garden, I calmly walked into the mansion, navigating through the walkways to get to my father’s study while my heart drummed loudly against my chest. As much as I hated Silver, her independent opinion and actions meant nothing to me. The only things that mattered to me were the reactions and opinions of my parents. Before Silver came into our lives, I used to think that I knew them best. That I could predict their movements and decisions. I was wrong.I knocked on the mahogany door of my father’s private study first before announcing my arrival.“Father, it’s me. Odette.” The fear that I thought I could suppress surfaced when I spoke with a weak voice.Ten whole seconds passed—I counted—before Father granted me the permission to step into his study. I learnt the hard way as a kid that I needed verbal permission before stepping foot into this private territory of his.Even grown, my hand still trembled as I turned open the knob and stepped into the room.
