EMILY POV
The moment I stepped into Leo Robbins Villa, I could tell that the family lived up to their name.
The artistry on the wall was unique and the architecture was like nothing I'd seen before.
Despite the beauty of the house, its only flaw was the owner. Leo approached me in the living room with no tees on.
It was so distracting and I stuttered to find my words. Even when I did, he insulted and accused me of something I knew nothing about.
My family might be poor and I might be struggling but I would never extort money from anyone. I began to calculate what could have happened that night. Was there someone out to hurt me? Was it the same person that kidnapped Max?
My mind was blurred with a series of unending questions waiting to be answered.
Leo's movement brought me back to reality as he moved to an area of the room and took some documents.
He came towards me and showed evidence of my message to the press men.
"The messages were tracked to your contact number so what have you got to say for yourself?"he said, almost yelling.
"I don't know what to say but trust me. I didn't send that message. I don't even know how I got on your bed that night,"I said, trying to hold back my tears. I was getting emotional and I hated it.
"I'm not interested in whatever happened that night. You threw yourself at me and that was it. The deed is done and you're about to ruin my life and career all because of money,"he bellowed.
No matter what I had to say, I knew he wouldn't believe me so I kept mute. He kept raving on about his single life and how I was a lowly stripper. He nailed my entire body with his provoking and inhumane comments.
"You don't have to worry as I've decided to cover up your crimes. However, you must pay for deceiving and exploiting me without remorse,"he said.
That was his plan. To coerce me into doing whatever he wanted. I stood there, completely overwhelmed with hatred and bitterness for this man who was out to soak me in agony. He pulled out a document and handed it over to me.
"Those are the rules of our contract,"he announced.
I perused the document but a point caught my attention.
We'll do what couples do but you must never get pregnant.
Contract ends after I get appointed as chairman of the R &B Group.
"Don't I get to have a say in this?"I asked.
"I already stated this earlier and I guess you aren't such a smart woman. This isn't a negotiation. You'll get paid for the job so I'll provide the terms,"he said, picking up wine from the wine cellar. He poured himself a glass and stared at me as he sipped his drink.
"So we'll do what couples do but I must never get pregnant? Aren't you being unrealistic and impractical?"I asked.
"There's nothing unrealistic about it,"he said, moving over me and scanning me through with his eagle eyes.
"It shouldn't be impractical since you're a stripper."
I felt an energy surge through me and I pushed him away. "For the umpteenth time, I'm not a stripper,"I screamed. I got the urge to give him a hard smack on the face but I controlled myself.
"Whatever,"he said and added, "once you sign the document now, we'll head to the court and finalize the agreement. You'll have a day to get your personal effects ready and transported to my house. We'll also have a party and press conference afterwards."
My lips quivered as I got a little excited. Apart from my nasty fake husband, It'll be smooth sailing into wealth and fame.
I noticed his unusual gaze and became uncomfortable. I wiped the silly smile off my face and requested for a pen.
"One more thing. What's your family name?"
I guessed I wasn't important enough for a background check. "I'm Emily Jones, an artist."
"I'm not interested in what you do,"he said and almost immediately added, "You'll also be joining an art gallery after the press conference. Jude will fill you in with the details."
I couldn't hide my excitement about the news. I had been working several odd jobs to cater for myself and my brother.
After my father's death, I realized that he owed a huge pile of debt, leaving our house as collateral for one of his creditors. I never got to know much about my mother who died after giving birth to my younger brother, Max.
Then suddenly, Max disappeared and I never saw him for days. He wasn't a rascal and he tried so hard to make me proud by studying. I had vowed to help him attain those heights I couldn't reach but my hopes were shattered when he went missing.
My neighbor, Madam Beatrice saw him lying almost lifeless on my front lawn after a week. I had rushed him to the hospital where the doctor revealed that he had a 50-50 chance of survival.
I had to pay a huge sum of money to get him all the surgeries he needed to live. The situation I found him in was so bad to the extent that I kept the police in the dark to protect him.
I can't imagine who kidnapped my brother and turned him into a vegetable. I would work my butt off if it means keeping Max alive and safe.
I was willing to take up the contract marriage for Max. I'd investigate what happened the night I met Leo and how Max ended up in his situation. All I needed was money and I'll be getting lots of it soon.
Maybe the contract marriage wasn't a terrible thing but the universe trying to help me out after all.
"Thank you so much, Mr. Robbins,"I said with a wide grin.
He ignored me and spoke after a few minutes. "I'm Leo not Mr. Robbins. We need to appear as the perfect couple,"he said and climbed a huge staircase to change into an elegant tuxedo.
The next day, we headed to the state court to sign the marriage certificate with Jude in attendance.
In just two days, I became married out of the blue and would be moving in with my new husband in a week's time which would suffice for our fake honeymoon schedule.
I had no one to share the news with. Max was at the Hospital. I didn't have any close friends or relatives apart from Madam Beatrice who cared deeply for me.
I couldn't bring myself to inform her so I lied that I was traveling to work. She was in her eighties so she rarely read any online news or newspaper. I was safe.
Jude came over to pick me at around 9pm and dropped me at a huge mansion. The maids helped me with my bags and left me at the guest suite.
The room was lavishly furnished with exotic furniture and curtains. One of the maids informed me about my after-engagement party with Leo which would take place that night.
Leo had instructed them to make me look as elegant and expensive as possible. A bride befitting of his status as a high-class business man: a billionaire.
My evening gown was custom made from a french designer and my bespoke jewelries from a high-end brand in Italy. My red hair was dressed into a wedding style bun.
I finally met Leo at the car park where he stood beside his exotic car. He left his gaze on me for about two minutes and I began to wonder if he was falling for me or just lusting after my looks.
To be honest, I can't explain how I started crushing on the arrogant man. He was all I wanted in a man which had always been beyond my reach. He was tall, handsome, well-built, had an enticing accent and extremely wealthy.
He helped me into his car and we drove to La Elegante, one of the best and revered 5-star hotels in the city.
I felt my leg give way beneath me as I stood in front of the crowd and press to walk down the red carpet with Leo.
My phone slipped out of my purse while I was waiting for Leo to finish giving instructions to Jude. I picked it up and stared at the screen in horror. My face was already trending on every news which reads;
Who is the strange bride of Leo Robbins, the heir to the conglomerate, R&B Group?
EMILY POV I'd never had that much exposure in my entire life. I held onto my purse and almost swooned behind Leo who held unto me. He held my hand in his arm and together, we walked down the red carpet. We had our pictures taken with a lot of people over us. I felt out of place as we entered the main hall which was crowded with several dignitaries from various works of life. I bet Leo could sense my nervousness so he whispered, "Calm down. You can't mess this up. We'll have a lot of attention on us tonight so get ready for it." I gulped a large lump of saliva, wore a cute smile on my face and moved confidently with Leo through the crowd. A toast was made to us, the newest couple who were showing their faces to the public after a month of honeymoon. We're just so good at lying and pretending. Leo held my hand, smiled at me sweetly and planted a kiss on top of it as a reporter from one of the most reputable media houses in town came over to our side. "So sorry to interrupt you, M
That was impossible. I can't be pregnant. I just missed my period which seemed normal considering all I'd been through in the past few days. Deep down, I felt a tingling nervousness stirring up but I kept convincing myself with my thoughts. I rinsed my mouth and headed to the hall. A few of the guests who already recognized my face greeted me as I passed by the hall leading to the staircase beside the main hall. Just as I responded to them, the aroma from one of the servers' trays filled my nose and I felt another surge to throw up. I instantly rushed back to the bathroom. Meanwhile I had attracted the attention of a good number of eyes. I rinsed my mouth after puking and applied a lipstick to my already dry and washed lips. "Are you okay?" a female voice from behind asked. "Oh! You startled me," I said, surprised to see Annabel. My heart skipped a beat as I couldn't imagine her seeing me throwing up. "Sorry. One of the guests ran into the hall to inform us about your condit
LEO POVEmily's never-ending anxiousness was already getting to me at the party but she had to ruin it all by throwing up. I can't even tell why she was nauseous. It was all thanks to my father's cue as I had to put on a new "me" at the party. I had to act nice and romantic so we could convince everyone that we were truly a couple. It would be impossible to do so if Emily kept stuttering and staring like a wounded cat. The most surprising part of the event was that Emily thought I had started falling for her just because I kissed her. So naive and stupid. However my plans worked as she felt at ease with me and she held unto me sweetly. Since the party was over, I expected her to crawl back into her shell and return to her boundary but she had to cross it. After the acting of the night, all I needed was a good time out and an uninterrupted rest but the annoying girl felt she could touch me. I boiled with anger as she did and pushed her away.I knew that what I just did was mean bu
EMILY POVThe bed in my new room was extremely soft so I slept like a log and when I finally woke up, my entire body was sore. After I pulled out of bed, I went straight to the showers, emptied my bowel, took my bath and wore a simple short floral gown.I kept thinking about Max as I made my way to the spacious dining room. How would I reach him since I'll be denying my entire lineage at the press conference in just a few hours? The mansion had two living rooms, several bedrooms all en-suite with walk-in closets, a huge dining hall that could host a dinner party, three studies, a smaller dining room, a large kitchen, snooker table, and an infinity pool.It was all painted with luxury. Leo's room and mine as well as his study and the kitchen were at the East wing of the house. A maid ran over to me as soon as she saw me. I guessed she was the head chef."Good morning ma'am," she said and bowed."Good morning. I can't seem to find the other faces I saw yesterday," I said while moving t
LEO POVI looked over the city through the glass wall in my office on the 48th floor of R&B Group building. I placed my hands in my pockets which were to calm my nerves.Since I got into the marriage contract with Emily, she's tried her best to always infuriate me. The only useful thing she had was her body. Every other part of her made me boil.I stared at nothing in particular which kept me focused as I ruminated over the bitterness in my heart for her and the best ways to torture her.Jude knocked the door, came in and dropped the bomb."The reporters have all arrived sir. What should we do now?" I rubbed my neatly shaped beard and faced him. "They haven't found her?" I asked."No, sir. We've checked everywhere but she's nowhere to be found. They are still searching so we should stay hopeful. I think you should start the conference and she'll join when she's found," Jude said, dropping his two cents worth like he always does.He was an indispensable part of me but I'll never let
EMILY POVMy lips quivered and I struggled to keep myself in check. Mr. Brook was one of my father's creditors. I'd checked the creditors' list over and over again but I managed to skip his name while paying them off."Oh shit!" I mumbled."Would you care to clarify this accusation, Mrs Emily," he said with an air of satisfaction. I figured he had a thing against Leo as they almost murdered each other with their unwavering stares."I doubt that you're a credible reporter as you claim to be. Everyone in this city knows that I'm a billionaire and I just got married to my woman so it's well expected that people would attack her. I beseech you all to dismiss accusations such as this," Leo said and at that moment, I felt a great admiration for his poise. He stepped down from the podium, pulled my hand and led me out of the conference as other reporters began to exchange words."Get me every single information on the so-called Mr. Brooks. I want it in the next hour," Leo ordered Jude who pi
EMILY POV "Ladies first," Kay said, wearing one of the sweetest smiles I'd ever seen. His disposition made me suspicious so I cleared my throat. "I wasn't feeling well so I decided to visit this hospital. I heard they offer good services," I lied, looking to cover up my nervousness. "Hope you're doing better now?" he asked. "Yeah, thanks," I replied, hoping to end the conversation as soon as possible. "Too bad that your new husband is insensitive to your needs," he said. I sighed absentmindedly as I tried to wrap my head around his reasons for acting nice. "I apologize for being a nuisance at your engagement party. I'm not like that. My recent quarrel with Leo blinded my judgment. I'm terribly sorry," he said with each of his words melting my stone heart. I thought about the quote on first impressions and marveled that he was different. "It's fine, Mr. Kay," I said "Kay's just fine," he replied. "Alright, Kay. I'll take my leave now," I said and left him. He wasn't as bad
EMILY POV"Stop blowing things out of proportion," Leo said, shielding her to a corner. "What's your problem, woman? We both had fun and got benefits during our time together so why are you making a fuss out of nothing," he yelled.I guessed her confrontation was not as intense as she had in mind because she grabbed Leo's hand as he finished speaking. "I still love you, Leo. I haven't gotten over you. What does she have that I don't? I'm also a very popular model which is a plus for you. I'll do anything you want me to do," she begged him."Will you just stop?! Stop this drama. I don't want you. I'm now a married man so stay away from me," he said and pulled me into the private room.I could not make any comments so as not to irk him. The attendants came in with a cloth rack and gestured to me to change in the dressing room. The dresses looked good on me as I had a great silhouette. Leo kept nodding till he had to purchase half the dresses on the rack. "Am I in the news?" Leo asked
