Chapter seven:
Aria's POV:
The next day came too fast. I hadn't gotten much sleep after my conversation with Anthony. My mind wouldn't let me sleep at all. After getting ready, Claire informed me that I was to have breakfast with Anthony.
The dining hall was in another wing—I guess Anthony's private wing. It was a very impressive hall, with high ceilings and golden chandeliers. Everything screamed pure wealth. I mean, what else did I expect from the Lycan King himself?
The dining table would comfortably fit a hundred people. At the far end of it, I spotted Anthony. The nervousness settled in my belly again; all I could hear were the sounds of my heels clicking on the marble floors. The closer I got, the more nervous I became. Anthony rose his head from his breakfast, his eyes meeting mine.
"Good morning, Alpha Aria." He said, tipping his head in acknowledgement.
"Alpha Anthony, good morning too." I replied, my voice sounding breathless.
"Join me," he said, pointing to the seat closest to him.
As I sat down, servants were pouring in, putting food on my plate. Everything looked so delicious, reminding me of how hungry I was. I took a piece of bread and spread some jam on it.
"Oh my..." As I bit into it and chewed, I gasped. "This is the best jam ever. "
"The fruit is grown on this very land," Anthony explained.
I ate another piece of it. "Compliments to the chef."
A comfortable silence settled over us. I felt my nerves dissipate as I ate more. Maybe I mistook them for hunger. After a while of silence, Anthony cleared his throat. I looked at him.
"There's something I need to tell you," he said, his tone, grave.
My heart skipped a beat. "Did I do something wrong?"
"No, it's not you." He pushed his half-empty plate to the side. His eyes bore into me intensely, and I wondered what was so serious that he wanted to say. "There isn't any better way to say this, so I'll just say it."
I realized I was holding my breath. I dropped the piece of bread in my hand back onto the plate. My throat felt parched, even after I had just drank some water.
"You're poisoned," Anthony said.
My eyes went wide. "Poisoned?"
"Yes. Something about your scent has been bothering me. I thought about it all night, and the only conclusion I came to was poison."
I laughed, feeling uneasy. "But Alpha Anthony, poison....... Even I would know about it."
"I thought you did, but from your reaction, it's clear to me that you aren't aware."
Poison? That was insane. Yes, I may be weak, but I am still an alpha. He was an alpha. But I could sense poison. And I'm sure I'll be able to tell if I'm being poisoned. There weren't that many poisons that affected us in the first place.
Who could be behind it?
The whole pack didn't like me. My meals were prepared by the pack cook. If she had poisoned me, wouldn't it have affected everyone? Would she even be able to do that?
"Alpha Aria?" Anthony's voice drew me from my contemplations. I looked up at him, offering a smile of apology.
"I'm sorry, did you say something?"
"I was saying..."
The doors were thrown open with such force that their sounds rang through the dining hall. I turned to the sound, wondering who could be interrupting.
A woman stormed into the hall. She moved with grace, her gown bunched in her hands. Her heels clicked in urgency as she made her way over to us. She glanced at me, her dark blue eyes narrowing in anger. Then she turned to Anthony, and a smile appeared on her face.
"My Lord," she said with a bow. Her long, blond hair flowed with the movement. She raised her head back up.
"Cordelia, what is this interruption?" Anthony asked in a brusque tone.
Cordelia smiled. "I was wondering if you skipped breakfast, my Lord, seeing as you hadn't sent for me yet."I had no idea you were here already." At the end of her sentence, she turned to me. And I could see how unwelcome I was in her eyes.
I ate some more bread, picking up the scrambled eggs.
"As you can see, I'm with a guest right now."
"Oh," Cordelia said. And it was an oh that said, Oh, what a waste of time. She turned to me and bowed. "Hello,"
"Hi," I replied.
She turned back to Anthony. "Shall I join you, my Lord?"
"Leave us," Anthony commanded.
Cordelia looked shocked. She quickly composed herself and bowed. "Yes, my Lord. I shall see you at lunch."
Anthony didn't reply. Just as she came in, she walked out. In her wake, she left behind a cold, rose-scented breeze.
Who is she to Anthony? A mate or something? I hadn't gotten a glimpse at her neck for a mate mark. Subconsciously, my hand went to my neck, where Logan had marked me. The mark was faded. In a few days, it would be gone completely.
And just like that, I thought about him again.
"I apologize for the interruption," Anthony said, making me turn to him. His eyes were on my neck, averting my face.
"It's nothing." I lowered my hand to my lap.
In a few days, the last tangible proof I had of Logan would be gone forever. The mating bond was still there—small embers of it. My heart hurts to think of him. But I couldn't forget him.
Anthony cleared his throat. "I will have the pack healer take a look at you," he said.
I nodded. "That's okay."
Anthony looked like he wanted to say more, but he didn't. He brought his glass of water up to his lips and drank from it. My thoughts flitted to the woman, Cordelia. I had to clear the air up now before things got too complicated.
"Is she your mate?" I asked.
Anthony choked on his water.
ARIA'S POVAnthony said not to bother about Dane."He's got nothing now Aria." He said, hugging me. "So there's nothing to worry about."That put my heart to rest, as it was true. Dane had no where to run to, he had nowhere to be. Unless I was wrong.*** Months later ***I woke up to foreign noises coming from the bathroom. Anthony had left a note saying that he had to leave the pack to attend to other issues pertaining to his taking over of Crescent moon pack and Nightfang pack. That he would be home before lunch.I put back the note on the table where he had left it, moving towards the bathroom to see what was going on.And there they were fighting. Again.Selena and Claire never seemed to get along. Claire said that she hated her, that Selena was too entitled. While Selena on the other hand said that Claire doesn't want to get along with her."You don't put that in here." Claire was saying to Selena. "She doesn't like that.""That's not right." Selena said looking at the object in q
DANE'S POVFor hours now, I had been running aimlessly away from my prison walls. I might have been a slave just when Anthony had power over the Lycan pack. But now that he had possessed the Crescent Moon pack and Nightfang pack, I couldn't bring my mind to the fact that I would have to be a slave to him forever.I ran on, the forest closing in on me with every step I took. If it was just my mind playing tricks on me or real, I didn't know. I just knew that I had begun to feel suffocated. My feet were covered in bruises. My clothes were torn. My shirt was covered in dried blood that I bled when I was escaping. And my trousers were so torn, that my legs were covered in serious injuries that needed to be treated urgently to prevent getting infected. At every step of the way, I felt like I was being followed, felt like something was going to lash out at me from the shadows of the forest, tearing me to pieces.I carried a silver dagger, and a bottle of powdered wolfsbane, just in case I wa
ARIA'S POV"Look at you looking so Alphaly." I said to Anthony walking up to him.Days after the war between the Lycan pack and Nightfang, he was now the alpha of both Nightfang and crescent moon pack."Is that even a word?" He asked me, smiling."How would I know?" I chuckled."Interview time." I said, clearing my throat, picking up my hairbrush as a microphone and walking to him."What are you doing?" He asked, laughing."What does it look like, my love?" I asked him, stressing the love, a little. "I'm interviewing you." I said, answering his question."Okay, fine." He said adjusting the sleeve of his shirt."Here, let me help you do that." I said to him, dropping my hairbrush on the vanity table, helping him adjust his dressing. He looked so good and much more handsome after he had taken over his two rivalry packs. Even his aura had changed. He now exuded more power than he did before."This feat has never been achieved in the history of the Lycan pack had it?" I asked him, referrin
ANTHONY'S POVDarcy was Aria's sister. At least, had been Aria's sister ever since. But seeing the Bourdain crest in her shoulder and knowing that I had bitten her but that she didn't get hurt, put all the pieces together."Freya." I said, my voice failing me."Amor." She said tearing up and falling to the floor.Darcy was Freya, my sister that we had lost during the war with Nightfang. She had always found it difficult to say the name Anthony.*** Flash back ***"Say Anthony." I said to her,"Nanony." She said,"No Anthony." I corrected."Do leave the girl alone Anthony, she can't pronounce that and you know it." My mum said coming up behind us. "Why don't you try this." She said sitting down on the bed.She looked at Freya. "Say Amor." "Amor." She said and burst into shrieks of loud laughter. "Amor! Amor!""Mom, don't do that please." I said, half glaring at my mother. "She likes it l, look at her." She favored Freya with a gentle smile. "Freya, you will now call your brother 'Amo
Chapter 99: WHEN DAY BECOMES NIGHT IN A BLINKANTHONY'S POVThe remaining guards and servants that were alive recoiled when I entered the main pack house that housed Logan and darcy.Elijah, my warriors and I had taken down all the guards that stood in our way but at the expense of the lives of some of our warriors. It was a war anyway. Both sides were bound to lose something and I had witnessed it before. There were whispers of my name from the servants and remaining guards that Aria had not killed or wounded, as she had done a marvelous job of taking out most of the guards that tried to prevent her from going to Logan and Darcy. But where was she at the moment? I didn't know the full placements of the rooms in this packhouse even though I had visited before. Just as I was contemplating where to head while Elijah and my remaining warriors keep the guards and pack members intact, a young lady of about late teens or early twenties tried to walk up to me."What do you think you are doi
THIRD PERSON POVLogan looked from his Luna to Aria, unsure of who to believe."Come on, baby." Darcy said to him: "You wouldn't believe her lies, would you?" She asked him. "She's a born liar, sweetheart. A traitor." Darcy said, defending herself.Aria was indeed a traitor to Nightfang, she had lied to me. Logan thought. Besides, I don't even love her, I love Darcy, it will always be Darcy. He spoke within himself. But ever since I met Aria, she has never lied to me about anything. She was always open and kept no secrets from me. He thought, looking at Aria as she stood where she had been since she came into the room, looking at Darcy with a look of bemusement, mixed with disgust on her face. Was she really right? He asked within him."Baby, look at me." Darcy said, turning Logan away from Aria to face her. "I love you, and you know it." She said."So you didn't do it." Logan replied, finally finding his voice. "Did you, Darcy?" He inquired, staring at her."Of course not, baby." Sh
