~EMBER
“Our dearest Luna, we regret to inform you that the Alpha has impregnated a fertile she-wolf” I heard uncle Fester say, his mocking tone and statement sure struck me to the bone. I glance over at the Alpha’s seat where the absolute love of my life sits with his mistress beside him—Their fingers tightly entwined. I have no idea which one hurts more at the moment; Is it her, sitting on my chair with that hideous face or the fact that she’s carrying Teneger’s baby… a living soul I could not have even if I wanted to. “Really?” I managed to say, pushing through the explosive sadness clogged up my chest. I will never cry before them. “I’m sorry Ember… When I found out she’s my fated mate, I just could not control myself” Lies. More lies. The bastard could not even look at me in the face. What fated mate? Teneger and I grew up together in my father’s pack. We fell in love and I gave him my position—made him an Alpha in my own pack. Unfortunately I couldn’t give him a child for years; all because of the strong Alpha gene I have. But he knew, this was our secret yet he didn’t hesitate to call a more than third party meeting on me. To trap me. If there’s anything to describe happiness and misery in one, it’s being painfully numb, it is Ember Hawthorn. “Congratulations Alpha” I forced a smile and the three elders present seemed relieved. Bunch of old hypocrites. “As expected of our heavenly Luna. We know this is unfair to you in your…” “Oh really?” I cut him short “I am understanding, not foolish. Your Alpha is free to live with his mistress but not in my pack” I declared. “How dare you Ember?!” Teneger rose to his feet in anger, directing his tormenting Alpha hormone to me, forcing me to my knees. I gasped in disbelief as the pain penetrated every core of my senses. “Teneger” His name was all I could say but he didn’t stop. Next thing, I saw black. Waking up in a cold basement, darkness was all I could see. Of course I knew this place, it’s where I torture criminals and interrogate them on behalf of my Alpha. I thought I was strong but I was foolish and love blinded. After my father’s mysterious death, I was left in the care of Uncle Fester, my father’s beta. He looked after I and my mother and helped managed the affairs of the pack. Mother cautioned my weak heart, she wanted me to be a female Alpha, the one position I deserve but I was naive and stubborn. I wanted to repay Uncle Fester and Teneger for their care—Stupidly at the expense of my pack. I clenched my fists frustratingly, yanked them apart and the ridiculous chain cuff fell off. The sound of it infuriates me. He knows this can’t hold me, I’m an Alpha. The real Alpha of the pack. Teneger has been ruling for years on borrowed strength and authority, including the Alpha aura he used on me, I surrendered it to him on the night of our mating ritual. I wanted him to raise his head without worries amongst other men, to make him worthy. But now I want my pack back and I won’t hesitate to rip apart, anyone that tries to stop me. The sound of approaching footsteps hit my ears, followed by muffled sound of heavy steps on the stairs, descending into the basement. “The Alpha awaits you, Luna” I heard a guard’s voice and I followed. As soon as I was up, my eyes squinted at the sudden exposure to the bright light and I looked away. He dismissed the prison guard. “It’s been two days Ember, we need to talk” his voice was soft—a clear sign of manipulation. “Go straight to the point” Seething, I said. “We are under attack. I need you to save our pack” he shamelessly explained. I scoffed, utterly disgusted “What could this strong choking smell be? Could it be Shame?” my brows arched curiously. “Look, we can settle our differences later but right now we must fight to save our pack. I know I’ve failed you and I wouldn’t mind answering to you after all these” Silence— “Ember” he called. Of course he needs me to fight. There’s always a large Alpha wolf at the battlefront with a small lanky warrior wolf. They always thought I was the little wolf supporting her Alpha but we both know the truth. “Who’s it this time?” I asked, walking away from the room. “It’s Keres” he lamented. The name made me pause my steps “Why? How?” “I have no idea what the God of death wants with our pack but we have to fight!” Keres is a monster, an anomaly in our peaceful world. In fact I’ve heard of him, everyone knows him as the black Fiend, hence his name but I don’t care. I will protect what’s mine. ***** As a good strategist, we attacked the rival pack on my orders and already wiped out hundreds of them in less than an hour forcing them to retreat. Strangely, their Alpha Keres was nowhere to be seen and Teneger insisted on full chase to wipe them all out. But as soon as we rounded a corner on the highest mountain, south, a rain of fire descended upon everyone and then I saw the enormous black dragon from nowhere. “Retreat!” I yelled panicking. History has it that the dragons have long been wiped out by my ancestors. Our pack to be specific! My heart breaks hearing the screams of my warriors as they fell into the abyss burning rapidly. The fire spreads so fast that there was nowhere to escape. “Get behind me Teneger” Scared, I hurriedly pulled him behind so I could shift and get few of us to safety. “Ember” he called. “Get behind me! now!” I cried as soon as I saw the dragon racing down our path. Gathering every little bit of strength left in me, I could feel my eyes changing, my legs morphing and next… a sharp penetrating dent on my stomach from behind. I’ve been stabbed. “I’m sorry Ember, he wants you only” I heard the familiar voice which prompted me to slowly turn around. “Why?” was what managed to slip out from the thousand questions I have for him. “The pack will be better off without you…” his kick came next on my belly and I fell off the cliff.EMBER~The morning wind was stronger than usual. I couldn’t help but glance at Sasha in her thin clothing. If she thinks that was enough to get that arrogant dragon’s attention then she would suffer greatly here in the pack.As soon as we rode through the gate, the first thing I noticed when we crossed the final ridge into the pack was an unfamiliar-looking she-wolf.She stood near the steps of the packhouse as if she belonged to the place as much as the stone walls and iron gates did. Tall, silver-haired, with a healthy body built from discipline and skills. Her smile was easy… unguarded, and when she waved at Keres, there was no hesitation in the gesture. Her smile was so broad and warm. And when Keres’s face mirrored hers, my chest tightened before I could stop it.She laughed as she approached him, her voice carrying lightly through the courtyard, and Keres actually responded the same way. He didn’t respond with a scoff or indifference, he spoke to her like someone he knew too wel
KERES~Ember started with questions before I could talk. I initially called her over to explain the situation to her, but the conversation shifted before I could.“Are you not bothered by the kiss?” I asked at last. Because how could she not be? It was intentional and sudden; it was supposed to shake her up, but she had been acting too normally since then. She didn’t reply immediately and when she did, her expression was bored to the point of cruelty. “Why would I be?” she scoffed. “It wasn’t important since we are not anything special.”The words landed harder than I expected and something dark stirred in my chest, hot and restless, my wolf bristling beneath my skin. I hated that it did. I hated that her dismissal felt like a blade sliding between my ribs. Still, I said nothing.“Should I be bothered by it?” she pressed, tilting her head slightly, green eyes sharp and searching.I shook my head once. A clipped, controlled motion. “No. Of course not” my eyes vibrated in their sockets
EMBER~We were assembled outside the towering main gate of Blue Crescent Pack with the stone arches looming above us like silent witnesses to everything that had transpired within those walls. However, it still showcases the magnificent details of luxury that Blue Crescent offers. The air smelled of low-key resentment since the few days of meeting without true resolution. We had all come together for one thing only to be met with another. I took in a large inhale of the morning air and exhaled loudly. Luckily everything is under control.Every other Alpha, with their warriors had already begun to move. Their horses shifted restlessly at command and banners lowered. One by one, the packs started to move along the vast road except for us. We didn’t move because Keres hadn’t given the order. For reasons known only to himself, he remained out there, watching and waiting for God knows what.At first, I thought nothing of it, but as the seconds stretched into minutes, an uneasy feeling cre
EMBER~The air inside the boardroom felt heavier as time passed. Every Alpha wore the same expression on their faces; Fear mixed with the sharp scent of unease. Alpha Leo’s earlier slip-ups, his daughter’s inconsistent story, and the strange eagerness to marry Sasha into Keres pack over the misunderstanding… it had all become too loud to ignore. One by one, the Alphas stood, muttering among themselves.“We need to keep watch on him.”“There’s too much coincidence.”“This kidnapping issue… maybe it didn’t start outside. Maybe it started inside our circles.”Finally, Alpha Gideon spoke for everyone:“Until proven innocent, Alpha Leo remains under observation. We should all end the summit here. The warriors are already stationed throughout the country and along the borders. The same thing will apply here and everyone returns to their packs. No more joint decisions until this is resolved.” he said.Everyone nodded in agreement and in no time, the chairs scraped as everyone started to leav
KERES~While the father and daughter exchanged a glance, my fingers flexed once, cracking with suppressed power. Alpha Leo’s smugness faltered as I stood up.I stepped toward him, slow and predatory “Let me make something very clear,” I said quietly. “If your daughter ever touches me uninvited again, you won’t have a healer or a daughter left to negotiate with.”Sasha gasped, shrinking back on her knees. Her big eyes were trembling in their two sockets.Leo stiffened. “Alpha Keres, don’t be so unreasonable…”“Unreasonable?” A dark laugh left my throat.“You staged an accusation, tried to trap me into marriage, and used your daughter as bait. And now you’re dangling her ability in front of me like I’m desperate.”I leaned in until our noses nearly touched “I am not desperate. I feel insulted”Leo stumbled back, bumping into the desk.“If you ever…” I said, voice dropping to a lethal whisper, “If you ever try to manipulate me again, I will burn your entire lineage to ash. including your
KERES~Alpha Leo stood before me, hands politely folded, expression dipped into something almost… Mischievous. I could tell the moment he walked through that door, that beneath that humility, there’s a glint of a man who knew exactly what he wanted and believed he had found the perfect way to obtain it.“My daughter,” he began slowly, “is not an ordinary werewolf.”I leaned back, silent, watching him with narrowed eyes as he launched into his speech. I preferred silence because it makes people talk more and reveal more.He just took the bait.“She was born and blessed by the moon goddess with the gift of the spiritual eyes.”His voice almost carried pride, but there was something else tightly clung to it; obsession.I said nothing to it as I watched quietly.“She sees,” Alpha Leo continued softly, “She’s not a seer but she sees beyond what ordinary eyes can see. She can sense one’s inner illness, their aura, their past injuries and their vulnerabilities.”My jaw tightened slightly at t
