When I was young, I was unusually different from my peers; dangerously strong and difficult to handle. Keres was a victim of the life I managed to shed off… the life my father wanted for me. He was so young but was tortured day and night, he was a victim of my father’s endless experiment to making me better. I was told he was a dying slave but that didn’t justify everything he went through. My father died the same day Keres was found dead in the prison. Nobody knew about my father’s secret activities so the case was closed mysteriously. “You’re alive…” I croaked. “Precisely” He picked up his robe with a smirk “Your miserable life is a prove that Heaven is on my side. Your mate betrayed you. It wasn’t that hard to convince him you know.” he chuckled, steepling his fingers. “What did you promise him?” The intensity of the situation dawned on me; I might end up dying before I get my revenge. “A promise. He said I could take you as long as I don’t attack his pack and help him scare off anyone that tries to attack Moon edge. That’s all you’re worth to him after giving him so much of you” There was nothing short of excitement in his eyes. “No I don’t believe you. You must have forced him into this” I argued but deep down I know he wasn’t lying. I can’t say I know Teneger anymore after he dared to sleep with another woman. But do I really deserve this? My body couldn’t take it anymore because then my vision was getting blurry, coupled with a banging headache. “You were stabbed with a poisonous dagger I made personally for you but guess what? I will save you.” he crouched to my level. “Why?” I asked him, genuinely confused. “So I can break you. I will kill you, heal you and break you over and over again until you’re broken beyond repair. You’ll be a walking dead like I am or way worse” His red lips curved cynically. “Why don’t you use the element you stole from me? With your wolf seriously injured, that fire element is the only chance you have at winning” He placed his hands on my shoulders. His eyes held mine What fire element? “Are you trying to feign ignorance?” Rage pooled in his eyes, taking my silence for stubbornness. His eyes traveled down my chest, He ripped my clothes off like a thin lining. The chaos in his eyes stilled when he saw my chest. Embarassed, I slapped him hard across the face before turning away to cover myself. “How dare you?!” “I can see it… “ he chanted repeatedly like a crazy man. “If you don’t kill me, I promise to rip you apart myself!” I cried out, shaking violently from humiliation and pain. “Do you feel humiliated? Oh don’t be. I don’t and will never see you as a woman” In my entire life, I’ve never felt an emotion this overwhelming. I didn’t know what fear was until now. My wolf is gone, my husband betrayed me and now I have an old enemy from the dead who has come to drag me down with him into the pit of hell. All my hopes to get my pack back… I would do anything for an escape plan right now. Unfortunately for me, my consciousness was starting to slip away. ***** I slept to what felt like eternity and when I opened my eyes, my environment has changed. I was no longer in a dirty dungeon but a proper place. I pressed against the soft pillows under my head, I could feel the warmth of the bed I’m splayed in. Soothing smell of Vanilla and herbal tea assaulted my senses. I gasped — Did I make heaven? Am I dead? “I’ll inform the Alpha you’re awake” I flinched at a voice. The maid was already out of sight before I could say a word. Immediately, I sprang up to my feet. I need to get out of here by every means possible. It wasn’t until I got to the door that I realized I was no longer in pain. My lips parted in astonishment as I inspect my lower back to find no scar or bandage. How? “Ember!” My wolf, Aeth called out giddily to me. I could sense her warmth filling me up. She’s healthy, active and excited. “Do you know what predicament we are in at the moment? I’m glad you’re alive in there but right now we need an escape plan!” I said through the mind link, afraid that someone might hear me talk. “Escape? Why should we flee from our mate?” I feel her prancing around at this point. My breath stilled. Could Teneger have come for me? We are not even mates and Aeth has never addressed him that way. What’s she on about? The moon goddess wouldn’t play such a prank on me by giving me a mate from the enemy’s pack. “Stay down Aeth, I’m not in for it” I tried to get her out of my mind but she didn’t stop fighting. I resumed my walk to the door but then as my finger poised to pull the knob, an intoxicating smell of Sandalwood and Vanilla hits my nostrils. Just a whiff of it sends my senses on fire, my core included. I staggered back, the scent was getting closer and choking. Aeth on the other hand was on cloud nine, the scent enlivens her. Frantically, I looked around for any weapon to attack and hopefully get away from this unfortunate mate because surely, Keres would kill both of us. I can only make it hurt less for him. The door bursted open within seconds and I saw him; his cold yet indecipherable eyes landed on me. Aeth wanted to howl out loud, if possible to rip my chest apart from the inside. A dark soul that smells like sandalwood and Vanilla— Keres. Keres is my fated mate.KERES’S POV~The forest stretched out before us like a familiar embrace. The air smelled of moss, wet earth, and smoke as we arrived at the end of the road. To the secret path leading to the home of our species. I gripped the steering wheel tightly, glancing at Ember. She was quiet, her gaze fixed on the horizon. The city’s chaos had been left behind, but the weight of everything we had survived still lingered in her eyes.“We are going home,” I said softly and she nodded, a small smile tugging at her lips.“Can you handle the drive?” she asked, worried about the lowest speed I was driving.“I can manage. We are not rushing are we?” I smiled and she kissed the side of my face. >>>>When we arrived at the pack lands, the first thing we noticed was the fresh air. The chaos that had lingered after my departure and my father’s betrayal suddenly felt like it never happened. Elder Maera stood tall at the entrance, her presence commanding yet warm.“She’s waiting for us…” Ember smiled wit
KERES’S POV~The night air was harsh on my face as I stormed through the streets, my heart thrumming with every step. The intel had led me straight to her house. I burst through the front door to find everywhere scattered.Rogues and masked men were everywhere, as well as human protesters walking around the streets. As soon as I got inside, I saw Ember cornered by six masked men. She made a defensive posture, ready to fight but I didn’t care if she would be able to do that or not.Without thinking, I leaped forward, taking down the nearest assailant with a punch that cracked ribs.Another lunged at her but my dagger met his shoulder which dropped him right at her feet, groaning.Ember’s eyes met mine mid-fight and my heart skipped. I just want to protect her from any kind of trouble. No one and nothing on this earth will ever hurt her again. Then another rogue came at her but I was already in front, swinging my arm to shield her. I pulled her behind me and took down the rogues one af
EMBER’S POV~I stood by the window, watching the familiar driveway below, but it didn’t feel like home anymore. The house felt different now, it felt like a place I had been kept… a cage I didn’t know I was in.My arms folded slowly across my chest.“How did you become this person…?” I whispered, my voice barely made a sound because I wasn’t sure if I was asking about him or mourning the man I once knew. The man who used to lift me high into the air, spin me around. Laugh like the world wasn’t heavy. The man who called me his little star.My throat tightened.“How did you turn into this… a stranger, a monster.” I shut my eyes.I couldn’t afford to feel this now.“Ember my dear.” His voice pulled me out of my thoughts. I turned slowly. My father stood by the door, looking calm and composed as always.Like nothing was wrong.“I’ve been looking for you,” he said, walking in.I forced a small smile “I was just thinking.”He nodded, stepping closer.“There’s something important we need to
DAYATT’S POV~Night had never felt this heavy before.I stood by the edge of the quiet street, my fingers wrapped tightly around my phone, my eyes scanning every passing shadow as something might jump out of it.Or maybe, I was waiting for it to.My chest felt tight because I knew that everything about tonight was wrong. And yet, I was the one who set it in motion.I swallowed hard, forcing my breathing to steady. The streetlights flickered faintly above, casting long shadows across the empty road. A perfect place for…“No!” I shut my eyes briefly; Don’t think about it.Headlights appeared in the distance and my heart skipped.Even before the car fully stopped, I knew it was Keres. I sense his aura from that distance. He stepped out calmly, looking composed as always. For a moment I almost forgot everything; Forgot why I was here, what I had agreed to do… the fear sitting in my chest.“Dayatt.” He called in a low voice which hit harder than I expected.I clenched my fingers tighter.“
EMBER~By the time I got home, my head was pounding, a sharp, persistent pain like something inside me was trying to claw its way out.The house was quiet when I arrived.“Dad?” I called out but there was no response.I exhaled slowly. He must still be at the hospital.I pressed my fingers against my temple, wincing.“I need painkillers…” I muttered under my breath.I checked my drawer but it was empty. My gaze shifted toward the hallway, towards my father’s study.I hesitated because I rarely went in there. Not because I wasn’t allowed to but because he never liked anyone touching his things. Another throb hit my head, stronger this time.I didn’t have the patience to care anymore.“I’ll just take one and leave,” I whispered to myself and charged forward. His study room was neat to perfection. Even when he doesn’t allow the cleaners in here, there’s no speck of dust anywhere.I moved toward the cabinet that looked identical to mine. It must be where he usually kept medications too. I
KERES’S POV~I knew she wouldn’t believe me immediately. Not after everything that had been done to her.But I also knew one thing, Ember was not weak. She wouldn’t run forever from something that didn’t make sense. She would question it and that was my only chance. So I showed up again; At the hospital uninvited. She saw me the moment I walked in and her body stiffened instantly. Those same eyes, the ones that used to soften when they met mine now held nothing but caution and irritation.“You again,” she said, already sounding exhausted.A faint smile tugged at my lips “Missed me?”She rolled her eyes “Don’t push your luck.”I leaned casually against the counter, ignoring the nurses' whispering nearby.“I came for treatment,” I said lightly. Her brows lifted “You’re not bleeding.”“I could be.”“Then go make yourself bleed,” she snapped. “And come back properly.”I chuckled. Somehow I loved this conversation. It’s the most interesting thing so far. Even her anger felt like home. But
EMBER~Since the afternoon heat has clung to the walls of my room like a second skin. I decided to sit quietly on the chair facing my balcony, letting the warm breeze brush across my face. Outside, sunlight filtered through the trees, painting golden patches across the courtyard. The only peaceful
DAYATT’s POVIn many ways, I felt victorious... I always did.Watching Keres prepare to leave the pack with me, brought a quiet, almost sinful satisfaction to my chest. The distance between him and his Luna had finally widened into something real, something tangible. Not just doubt, or awkward sile
EMBER~When I stepped inside, my gaze landed straight on the Luna of Silver Crest and her Alpha… Teneger.Teneger stood beside Luna Helen, his posture angled toward her in a persuading manner, one hand lifted on her back, massaging her gently while Helen, on the other hand, was visibly furious. Her
SHAWN’S POVI had just come back from my late-night run when a guard from theLuna’s house arrived. From the purple badge on his uniform, I could tell that Lady Ember wanted to see me. I stepped back from the door, regulating my breathing.“Luna Ember requests your presence.” the guard informed me p
