Chapter 05

~EMBER

Arriving at the Alpha’s villa, a place I once called home and felt safe in, I saw that the number of guards has increased. After doing that to me, it’s obvious that his guilty conscience has been eating at him.

This is my pack—I know every nook and crannies.

Eventually, I snuck into the house steadily. As I walk towards the door to the bedroom, the anger began creeping to the surface. The rage I thought I had under control fought through me. My green eyes turned to a darker shade of red and my claws sprang into action.

Just as I neared the door, I heard their giggles… and the smell of sex. My steps faltered miserably.

“I love you so much Teneger. I thought you were kidding five years ago when you promised to make me your Luna” I heard Teneger’s mistress say. I forgot to mention how we all met in the states few years ago in college. She claimed to have no family and followed us back as friends. So it was a calculated move by all of them.

“As long as you learn to trust and submit to me, I’ll always protect you. No man likes stubborn women who thinks they are all that. Unlike that useless, love-starved Ember, you’re different from her my love”

The way he said those statements with so much disgust, I find it hard to believe that he had actually loved me for real in the past. Turns out I was used…

“Of course nobody wants her around. Why else would they be quick to believe your story when you got back? So sad that everyone now believes she had lost her mind and turned on her pack” Kayla said.

“The saddest part isn’t about her, it’s the fact that I had to sacrifice lots of lives to make my story sound real. The two guards I came back with are my father’s men and they’ll testify tomorrow that Ember lost her mind because of your pregnancy therefore, she killed everyone and tried to get rid of me as well but I managed to escape”

At this point, my body was already shaking with rage as Aeth was fighting to let loose. I kicked down the door on them and they flinched. The rotten innocent look on their faces makes my stomach twist painfully.

I sped up to one side of the bed where his mistress lies nakedly. Before I could grab her, Teneger kicked me off the bed and covered Kayla with a blanket. That sight alone broke me once again; he’s protecting another woman with so much love in his eyes.

He was fast and desperate in his attack. My eyes caught him pick up a weapon real fast and it turns out to be the same dagger he had stabbed me with. It’s evident he felt no remorse for his action and that was the pushing force I needed before losing my mind. I suddenly felt my palm hot and tingling; My vision turned red.

“Ember…” Teneger had barely called out before the entire room went up in flames. I wanted to scream and run but I couldn’t. I remained lost and rooted in place while Teneger tries to save his love who was already up in flames. I could swear I never intended to kill her… I want to stop this so bad…

I then heard a soft squish from my body, with Teneger right in front of me… he had stabbed me yet again.

Everything happened so fast. The next minute, I was kneeling at the center of the packhouse with my hands binded and my neck placed on a wooden bench. I must have gone into shock earlier.

I looked past my disheveled hair filled with my sweat and blood. Surrounding me are my pack people, each with pitchforks and hatred in their eyes. They actually believed Teneger’s lies.

“As from today, I divorce you Ember Hawthorn. For taking innocent lives out of jealousy…” Teneger paused briefly, sniffling his tears.

“For murdering Kayla and my unborn child, I sentence you to death!”

Immediately my consciousness came back and my eyes cleared. They’ve all agreed to behead me. I struggled to break free, shaking my head vigorously at the injustice.

“Aeth…” I muttered but I could only hear her whimper. She’s… dying.

“How dare you lie about everything? and you…” I dragged my knees around, body limp and festering “You all believed him without asking for my side of the story” Hot tears trickled down my face; I was scared… for myself. I don’t want to die like this.

"You may start” Uncle Fester barked at the executioner who signaled to others to take me. They bundled me back to the spot roughly and pinned my head down.

From one side of my eye, I saw the blade being raised…could it be over for real this time? At that moment, memories of my entire life flashed through my eyes. I swear I would do anything for a miracle right now moon goddess.

I shut my eyes tightly seeing the blade falling close but then I felt a strong wind brush past my face, along with splatter of blood raining down on me. The executioner’s hand had detached from his shoulder joint. His painful scream filled the air and the packhouse descended into chaos.

Apart from the smell of blood, I perceived Sandalwood and Vanilla… It’s Keres.

The chains on my hands and legs dropped to the ground in the blink of an eye. He raised my weak body against his strong chest as if I weighed nothing.

“You were right…” I sobbed.

His gaze turned to me for a slight second.

“Why did you come?” I asked.

“You’re not allowed to die until I say you are,” he responded.

“Please help… My life is yours if you want” I grabbed his clothes tightly.

“Then I’ll give you this pack as a dowry” He said with a crazy smile. Next, he leaned closer to my face, holding my chin in place, he marked me before everyone present.
