“How? What happened?”

He scowls. “They were keeping a close eye on her. But they can’t be glued to her side every second. She’s mated—she wanted privacy. It was still early, around dawn. They said she told her mate that she felt stifled. She hadn’t been able to breathe since the first rogue attack because everyone was keeping their eyes on her. So she convinced him to let her go for a short run.”

“She went out alone?” I whisper, stunned.

He nods, “She slipped away. Thought since she was still on pack lands, she’d be safe. But still- she made sure she didn’t go near the borders, just stayed near the main forest path. And that was when the attack ‘coincidentally’ started. Somehow, two rogues slipped through. They have no idea how they got that deep in.”
