Chapter 9

Author: Nine Thoughts
“Ms. Shaw, stop joking.” I let out a bitter laugh and stepped back, keeping space between us. “I’m just a filthy servant, and I don’t deserve to be near you.”

“You’re not a servant, you’re my lover!” Melissa cried, grabbing for my hand. “I’m sorry. It was all my fault. All of it…” She begged me to punish her, to hit her, to do anything, anything at all, as long as I didn’t walk away. “Get out!” I slammed the door before she could reach me.

I collapsed not long after.

When I woke up in the hospital, she was there, glued to my bedside and staring at me without blinking. “You’re awake!” She burst into tears the moment I opened my eyes. “The doctor said you fainted from long-term sleep deprivation… and not eating or drinking…” Her voice grew smaller and smaller.

“I’m sorry… please don’t hit me…

“The food’s gone bad… I can’t eat it…

“Aiden… I’m your real dad…”

She had heard everything I murmured in my unconscious state. For the first time, she finally understood the depth of the da

I didn't answer her plea to start over. Instead, I asked, "What happened to Connor Hayes?""He's still locked in the estate!" Melissa rushed out to explain. "I made him pay for everything you suffered!" She shoved her phone into my hands, "Look. He's suffering a thousand times worse than you ever did!"Afraid I wouldn't believe her, she opened video after video: Connor being whipped until the ground beneath him turned red… dragged into the stables and forced to sleep beside damp manure… hauled onto his feet before dawn and worked until he collapsed face-first into the dirt. Two weeks had turned him into something barely human, skin stretched tight over bone, eyes sunken and empty, almost like a skeleton. However, watching him in agony didn't give me any satisfaction, only emptiness. No amount of torture could return the five years they had stolen from me."Send me the videos," I said."Of course!" She sent everything instantly, mistaking my calm for forgiveness, believing I wante

  • The Five-Year Scam   Chapter 8

I moved to another city and spent half a month trying to stitch myself back together, convincing myself I could start all over again. But the moment I stepped into the real world, I realized how broken I really was because the five years gone had stripped me of everything. From my dignity to my confidence, and even my instincts... They were all gone.Phones, screens, voices, and traffic felt foreign to me now. Even the smell of warm food could make my stomach twist. Sleep never came no matter how exhausted I was. Whenever people argued outside my window, my body reacted before my mind did. I would drop to my knees and beg for mercy.“Is he okay…?”“He looks unstable.”“Is he… mentally ill? Should we call someone?”Strangers stared as if I’d lost my mind… or maybe they were right. I sprinted home and curled into a corner like a terrified animal. I realized I wasn’t a normal person anymore because even sunlight felt unbearable to me now. There were a thousand times I wished they cou

  • The Five-Year Scam   Chapter 7

"This is all your fault!" Melissa exploded. "You're the one who pushed me into that twisted play! If it weren't for you, Ethan never would've walked away from me." Everything came pouring out at once. The lies Connor had whispered into her ears for years about how he claimed Ethan had sabotaged him out of jealousy, how he stole his projects and ruined his company, and destroyed his future... He even blamed Ethan for his mother's illness and death.Melissa had believed every twisted word of it. Connor had wound her up, fed her anger, and stoked her outrage until she finally broke and agreed to send Ethan to that nightmare estate so he could "pay for his sins."Connor blinked in disbelief as Melissa seized a chair and hurled it at him before he could defend himself. "Melissa Shaw!" He ducked with a shout. "Have you gone crazy? Think clearly and get it straight! You're the one who wanted to help me get revenge! You're the one who told me I could do whatever I wanted! Everything tha

"How could he escape with guards posted everywhere?!" Melissa's voice cracked into a sharp scream as she glared at the trembling servants. No one dared answer until the final search party returned. "Ms. Shaw… we found a dug-out hole behind the bathhouse. There were tracks outside. Someone crawled through." They were pale and out of breath.'He escaped?' Melissa couldn't breathe knowing he had really escaped! Panic stabbed through her chest, and the feeling was overwhelming."Lock this place down! No one leaves until I'm back!" she snapped before sprinting out of the estate. She raced through the mountain roads until she reached her city home, but only to find it already stripped bare.Everything valuable was gone but only the large furniture remained. Every trace of Ethan had been erased, as if he had never lived there at all. In the study, shattered monitors littered the floor like broken ice. Her heart sank. She grabbed her phone and sent message after message."Ethan, are you

  • The Five-Year Scam   Chapter 5

They dragged me into the woodshed behind the estate. Two servants carried a thick rope while another heated a knife over the fire. I hung my head and played half-dead the entire way, letting them believe I had no strength left. It worked. The moment their grip loosened, I grabbed a piece of firewood behind me and slammed it into the nearest head. Before the servant with the knife had time to gasp, I was already sprinting into the trees, running faster than I ever had in my life.“He’s running away! Bring him back!”Shouts erupted behind me, but I didn’t look back. I knew this was my last shot at living, so I ran like my life depended on it, because it did. After five years trapped here, I knew every inch of the grounds better than any of those “actors.” I reached the hole I’d dug behind the bathhouse, squeezed through, and emerged into a wall of waist-high weeds. They sliced my skin open as I pushed through, but pain didn’t matter anymore. Ten meters later, I burst onto a mou
