Chapter 1

āļœāļđāđ‰āđ€āļ‚āļĩāļĒāļ™: Grogan
Duke changed two months ago, when his childhood friend Sienna came back to the pack after her study tour.

The first thing she did on her return was to see him, and he brought me along, introducing us.

I noticed right then that they had no sense of propriety when it came to each other, but I didn't take it to heart—until he told me that Sienna would be staying in the pack as his assistant in administrative duties.

Since then, he spent a lot more time at work, even working overtime or going on business trips altogetherâ€Ķ And eventually not bothering to come home at all.

It was not until two days ago when I heard from a sentry that Duke would always bring Sienna along wherever he went—that was when I finally realized how intimate they had been.

When I left Duke's office after he refused to mark me, I didn't need to go far when Sienna cut me off, smiling smugly at me, "You look pale, Fiona. Did you have a fight with Duke?"

I didn't want to waste time with her and tried to walk past her, only for her to chase after me. "You don't know anything, do you? He's already plenty stressed over the enemies trying to take over the pack, and now you're making more trouble for him over nothing? If you can't help, stay home and stop bothering Duke!"

I smiled faintly as I calmly met her gaze, "I'm the reason he established the Forest Pack in the first place. I know the pack and Duke more than you do."

Seemingly surprised that I would bite back when I was so usually mild-mannered, she noticed the figure behind me and immediately looked aggrieved. "I'm just offering my opinion for you and Duke's sake out of the kindness of my heart. If you don't like it, just say so. Why would you flaunt your importance to Duke and tell me to leave?"

"Who told you to leave?!" Duke growled coolly as he strode past me to Sienna's side. "She's still young, Fiona, and she just started work here. If something she said upset you, just say so! You don't have to tell her to leave."

Still young?

In all likelihood, Duke forgot that Sienna was just three months younger than me.

Feeling the bitterness swelling inside, I rubbed my eyes as I took a deep breath. "I'm not telling her to leave. It's just a fact that the Forest Pack was founded because I—"

"That's enough!" Sienna suddenly cut me short, turning tearfully and miserably toward Duke. "I get it—you got the wrong idea about me and Duke, so you're really hostile to me. But whether you believe me or not, Duke and I were just friends growing up.

"He went through great hardship to establish the Forest Pack—he's the greatest Alpha there is! You can't just look past his accomplishments because you despise me!"

Duke turned toward me right then, frowning. "What did you tell her, Fiona?"

Sienna saw that too, and hung her head as she tugged on Duke's shirt, her tears raining down her cheeks. "It's alright, Duke. I don't want you to be unhappy because of me. Don't blame Fiona, and don't fight her because of me. My parents are gone anyway, and I'm used to be alone—it doesn't matter which pack I'm staying in.

"Since Fiona hates me so much, I should just leave."

"What are you saying?!" Duke hollered right then, not hiding how much he cared about Sienna at all. "That's not what Fiona's saying!"

I couldn't help laughing as I left right then, but it was not until I got home that I realized my tears covered my cheeks.

As if on cue, my mom called right then, "Dear, have you told Duke who you are yet? Is the marking ceremony going as scheduled? You know me and your daddy were hoping you'd find someone from a similar background, but if you insist on Duke, we don't mind—"

"Mom," I cut her short, wiping my tears. "There won't be a marking ceremony."

  • The Forgotten Mark   Chapter 8

My mother has stayed by my side constantly ever since I returned home, while my brothers would return whenever they had the time, bringing my favorite gifts and food.Despite being busy with the pack, they would just put off work just to visit the family's vast estates and orchards.I rarely felt such liveliness and affection back at the Forest Pack, and gradually found my happiness, even forgetting about Duke and Sienna. However, Diana still hadn't talked to me since about the ring.I only remembered about it one afternoon when I was touring one of the family estates alone, wondering whether I should call him when someone suddenly appeared before me. It was a familiar face, but the cheek was covered in stubble and his eyes filled with tears the instant he saw me.I only stopped for a moment, before I started to turn and leave. He caught my wrist, however, and took out my ring with trembling fingers.I frowned but reached for it, only for him to lift it away from my grasp.Im

  • The Forgotten Mark   Chapter 7

The house that used to be filled with matching sets for couples was empty, with no signs of anyone living there before at all and so clean it looked like it was ready for a new resident.Even every photo on the wall that Fiona had adored so much was taken off, the photos nowhere to be seen.Even as he reverted to human form and was still covered in torn rags, Duke felt like his heart was taken out of his chest, and walked stiffly to the bedroom. He couldn't even find a single hair belonging to Fiona in there. But he still held out hope and opened Fiona's drawer, only to find that couple's wristwatch that she had left, placed on top of a card that read: Wishing you happiness in the future. So in the end, Fiona could be understanding enough to tell him that in the end, just as she wouldn't leave any trace of herself after she left. But how was Duke going to be happy without her?As Duke dropped to the floor, he started sobbing silently until Sienna called out gingerly, "Dukeâ€Ķ?"D

Diana paused. When she spoke again, her voice was gentle yet sincere, "You're a good person, Fiona. I wish you happiness, whatever path you choose now."I smiled, when I suddenly remembered about my ring when I saw my conspicuously empty finger. The ring was a family heirloom—I was supposed to bestow it openly with my Mate as a token of our love. And I did just that right after I fell for Duke, but he didn't know that it was a family heirloom back then.I also know that after Sienna came to the Forest Pack, he kept it in his drawer.Diana didn't hesitate to agree to help me retrieve the ring too, but when she arrived at Duke's office, she saw Duke flirting with Sienna.Loyalty mattered most for werewolves—especially to marked wolves like Diana.Just seeing Duke flirting with Sienna left her feeling indignant, but she stuck with her plan to lure Duke out of his office. "Why would Fiona ask you to get the letters?" he asked Diana when he saw her. "Is she not home?"Diana frown

When I got home, I was surprised to see that my father and my three brothers were there. It seems that they had put aside their work and returned from afar to check on me. Crowding around me as they ushered me inside, taking my suitcase off my hands.Alex, my eldest brother frowned as he put an arm around my shoulder, clearly disapproving as he asked, "You lost weight. How did that happen?"David, my second brother raised a brow. "You don't have much in your luggage either."Even my third brother Aden groaned in annoyance. "How stingy can Duke be? We three gave him plenty, but he can't even bear to get you food and clothes?"I couldn't help but laugh. "Those things are frivolous, so I'm not bothered to bring those back."Possessions, partners—if it stopped bearing consequence, they should be disposed of right away.Dad nodded, smiling adoringly as he tousled my hair. "That's right! Nothing matters now that you're home."I fought back my tears, and my mother came rushing out as

  • The Forgotten Mark   Chapter 4

Duke got Fiona's text soon after he coaxed Sienna to sleep. The negotiations for alliance with the neighboring pack had already ended two days ago.But when he was returning to the Forest Pack, Sienna mentioned a famous tourist spot and dragged him along. Then, she accidentally fell off a cliff. When Duke saved her, she was clinging to him, crying in fear and refusing to let go, which postponed him further. It was daybreak when the text arrived, and he frowned, worried that it would wake Sienna. However, he picked up the phone anyway when he saw that it was Fiona.[I'm breaking up with you.]The furrow on Duke's brow deepened further, but even before he could rub his brow, Sienna suddenly reached out and grabbed his wrist."Dukeâ€Ķ" She was calling to him in her sleep.Duke's annoyance was soon replaced by an adoring expression, and he tousled her hair, whispering, "I'm making a call. Just sleep."Once Sienna was sound asleep again, he tip-toed outside to call Fionaâ€Ķ only to r

  • The Forgotten Mark   Chapter 3

After arriving home from the venue, I saw Sienna and Duke sitting by the dining table as soon as I stepped through the front door. They were reading a document, but their bodies were pressed tightly against one another.I had built this house meticulously—to make a world for myself and Duke without anyone. And because I had yet to leave, I despise the thought that Duke brought someone in my turf without my approval.Sienna noticed me first, and pulled flirtatiously on Duke's necktie, purring, "Dukeâ€Ķ"Duke sighed exasperatedly, but the next moment he smiled at Sienna adoringly as if used to such pranks. "Stop it. I'm reading."Sienna shot me a provoking grin in turn, and only then did she tell Duke, "Fiona's back."Duke promptly leapt aside to pull away from Sienna, even as he looked up at me panickily, "I left something here, and Sienna came since she was worried."I frowned but stayed silent, while Sienna got up too. "It's alright. I'll leave since Fiona doesn't welcome me."
