I leave the nurse behind and trudge out of the tiny office. I shouldn't have snapped at her like that, but it's too hard to keep my temper in check. 

Cody sits in the chair next to the office, a cup of coffee in his hand.

I notice the flash of disappointment in his eyes and groan as I drop into the chair next to him. "Don't start, please, not you too." 

"Kane, Selena's a fighter; she'll be fine. Just trust me, okay?" Cody tries to comfort me, offering a cup of coffee I didn't notice earlier.
