The apartment door opens, and I immediately hide under the bed. I have no idea why the instinct to hide kicks in, but I'm rather happy it exists.
Since I'm mated to Kane, it puts me in some danger; that's a proven fact.
Someone is walking around the room, constantly looking for something. At first, the person might have said something, but the chaos and fear in my head make it impossible to understand a word.
I want to get out of my hiding spot, but I'm too scared. On the other hand, what if it's Kane and I'm just being paranoid? He usually calls for me when he comes home, so maybe it isn't him.
