Chapter 3

Elera POV

I woke up slowly, and my body was a bit hard. It was like it was made of rocks and the room was cold, and the blanket didn’t cover me much, my head hurt, and my chest hurt, and..infact everything hurt.

I tried to sit up, but my hands shook, and my legs were so weak and then remembered the festival, his words, and his eyes.

“I reject you,” The memory made my stomach turn and I wanted to cry, but no tears came.

I heard whispers outside the small door.

“Look at her,” someone laughed. “The cursed mate.”

“Ha! She carries his mark, but he hates her!”

Days went by, and Alpha Damon didn’t look at me.

He walked past like I was not present there.

But anytime he moved, my chest felt broken, and so hurt.

I sat by my small window, and my hand was on the glass.

“Moon Goddess make mistakes?” I whispered, my voice was low and shaking.

I tried to eat, but the food was not going and my head was just ringing. My hand dey shook and I lay down, but everything was just running fast

One night, I fell down on my way to my room, my eyes were dark and a cold hand quickly grabbed my arm and someone picked me up.

“You are very weak, Elera,” the healer said softly.

“You are very weak, Elera,” the healer said softly.

“We must check you.”

I looked up at her and my lips trembled. “I… I feel sick… everything hurts…”

She nodded and took my hand. “You are pregnant.”

Hearing those words made me shocked as I fell down on my bed and held my tummy tightly.

“Pregnant?” I whispered. “But… how…?”

The healer knelt beside me. “It is true. You must rest, you must stay quiet and… you must be careful.”

I shook my head. “No… no… I cannot tell him. He… he hates me. He… he will….”

“I know,” the healer says slowly “But you are not alone. You must be strong. For yourself and… for the little life growing inside you.”

I then closed my hands and held my tummy tightly.

And then I heard the whispers outside, the pack were mocking me and I heard the pack laughing. “The cursed mate”

Their words moved right into my brain.

I curled into myself, and lay down on my bed and started thinking about my whole life, my body was weak and my heart was broken and was hurting.

I opened my eyes and the moonlight fell on my bed, my breath shook and I spoke to the darkness, “Please… help me.”

And then suddenly, the door opened and I heard hard steps and then I looked up and was shocked.

Damon stood there, his eyes were dark and his face was unreadable.

“I… I heard…” he said slowly and my heart stopped.

The room went silent, except for the sound of my own heartbeat and then he stepped closer.

My hands shook and the small flame of hope inside me fought with the fear and before he could say anything furthermore.

I broke the air.

“Alpha Damon,” I said gently, and my voice almost broke. “I… I am… I am with a child.”

His eyes snapped to me, first, it was confusion and then, rage and his hands clenched.

“You… what?” His voice was sharp, cutting through the room like a knife. “You dare trap me?”

“I… I didn’t trap you,” I whispered, tears spilled down my cheeks. “It’s… it’s real. Please, I… I’m scared.”

“Scared?” He laughed, but it was cold, cruel. “You should be, you think I will let this happen? That I will raise a curse?”

I curl into myself. “I… I’m not lying… please, Alpha…”

His face turned red, and his jaw was tightened. “You want to trap me after I rejected you? Just pray it's not a girl!”

I shake my head, my tears falling fast. “Please… I didn't trap you, Alpha… it’s… it’s a life…”

He slammed his hand against the table. “I said enough! You and your curse… leave my sight!”

Days passed and I stayed in the small room, hiding, trembling and the healer came to me in secret, her face was pale.

“It’s a girl,” she whispered.

My heart sank and I quickly buried my face in my hands and fear crashed over me.

“She will…” I barely breathed. “What will he do?”

The healer’s lips tightened. “He said… if it’s a girl, she dies with you…”

I choked back a sob and my body shook “No… no… please…”

That night, the Beta Rylan entered. His face was hard. “Alpha’s order,” he said, voice cold. “She is to leave the pack.”

I shook my head. “No! Please! I… I haven’t done anything wrong! I don't have anywhere else to go!”

The guards moved closer and their hands were rough as they grabbed my arms. I kicked, I screamed, I begged. “Help! Someone, help me!”

They dragged me through the trees, my dress was torn and my body was bleeding. Every step hurts.

I fell to the ground and my hands dug into the dirt. “Please… please…” I cried, and my voice broke. “I’m not a curse… I’m not a curse…”

No one came, no one heard, it was only the shadows that moved around me. The wind bit my skin and my body was weak.

I closed my eyes, pain wrapped around me like a cold blanket and my tears were mixed with the dirt.

Somewhere in the distance, I heard the sound of branches snapped and I lifted my head and the guards were gone already

I am alone, bleeding, cold and the forest stretched around me like a dark sea.

I clutched my stomach and my baby.

I whispered into the night, “Please… don’t leave me… please…”

The wind howled back.

And then… a shadow moved closer from the trees and my breath froze.
