"Get your hands off her!"

A furious, deep roar shook the walls.

Before Jaxon could even turn around, the heavy bedroom door was kicked open with a massive crash. The wood split, and the door slammed against the stone wall.

Kael strode into the room like a dark storm.

His face was twisted in pure, savage anger. His eyes were glowing a bright, warning gold in the dim light. He didn't look like a man; he looked like a beast ready to kill.

The grandfather clock in the corner of the room chimed midnight. The deep, heavy sounds echoed through the quiet space, keeping Seraphina wide awake. She tossed the blankets aside and got out of bed. Sleep was impossible tonight. Every time she closed her eyes, she either saw the bloody jaws of the rogue wolf or Kael’s cold, golden eyes staring down at her.She was wearing a simple, loose white nightgown that fell to her ankles. Her dark hair was messy, hanging down her back. To distract herself, she walked to her wooden vanity table and picked up a silver brush. She started brushing her hair with slow, hard strokes, staring at her reflection in the mirror. She looked like a normal human. But tonight had proven she was anything but normal.Suddenly, a soft sound broke the quiet.Click.Seraphina froze. Her eyes went straight to the reflection of her bedroom door in the mirror. The brass handle was turning. It was moving incredibly slowly, trying not to make a sound. Her heart began to

The heavy oak doors of the princess’s chambers clicked shut, cutting off the distant, chaotic noises of the palace courtyard. Seraphina stood perfectly still in the center of her room, her back straight and her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath. The silence of her room was thick, almost suffocating. Her hands were still trembling slightly, the adrenaline from the rogue attack still pumping hot through her veins.I don't know Now let me knowSlowly, she lifted her right arm and looked down at it. She touched her smooth skin with her fingers. There was no pain. There was no deep, ugly laceration from the rogue wolf’s claws. There was only a long smear of dried, dark blood across her forearm to prove that she had even been touched during the fight."How?" she whispered to herself, her voice barely audible in the quiet room. She walked over to her elegant marble washbasin. She poured cool water from a silver pitcher and began to wash the dried blood away. As the water turned

Aurora hesitated for a fraction of a second, her claws still resting on Seraphina's shoulders."I said, get off her now!" Kael roared, stepping forward. The sheer force of his Alpha command was too strong to resist. Aurora whimpered loudly, lifted her paws, and scrambled backward, away from Seraphina. She retreated into the shadows of the trees, her tail tucked tightly between her legs.Kael was beside Seraphina in an instant. He knelt in the dirt, his large hands immediately grabbing her arms to pull her up. His touch was warm, almost burning, against her cold skin."Are you alright?" he asked. His voice was rough, but for a split second, Seraphina heard a trace of panic in it. His golden eyes searched her face and body, looking for any signs of fresh blood.Seraphina pushed his hands away, refusing his help. She dragged herself up, using a nearby tree to stabilize her shaking legs. She wiped the dirt from her face, staring at him with cold anger."I am fine," she spat, her voice tre

The giant grey wolf stared at Seraphina with cold, silver eyes. It was Aurora. She had fully shifted into her beast form, and her massive body was tense, ready to spring. A low, rumbling growl vibrated in the wolf’s throat, and thick, warm saliva dripped from its long, white fangs.Seraphina did not have her silver daggers. She was completely unarmed. Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird, but she forced her body to remain still. She knew that if she ran, the wolf’s hunting instincts would kick in instantly, and Aurora would tear her to pieces before she could even reach the castle doors."Aurora," Seraphina said, keeping her voice as steady and flat as possible. "Don't do this."The grey wolf only snarled louder, its ears pinning back against its head. With a powerful leap, the massive beast launched itself forward, aiming its deadly jaws straight for Seraphina's throat.Seraphina’s training kicked in. She didn't freeze. Just as the wolf’s heavy body was about to cr

The golden light fading from Seraphina's arm left the remaining rogue wolves whimpering in pure terror. Realizing they were facing a force they could not understand, the beasts turned and scattered into the dark forest, retreating as fast as they could. The danger was gone, but the sudden rush of magic completely drained Seraphina's strength. Her vision blurred, her knees buckled, and she fell weakly onto the cold cobblestones, darkness swallowing her whole. When Seraphina opened her eyes, she was lying on her massive bed. The room was quiet except for the crackling fireplace. She groaned softly, turning her head, and instantly froze.Kael was sitting right beside her on the mattress. His large frame towered over her, his golden eyes burning with an intense, unreadable emotion. For a second, she thought he might thank her for scaring the rogues away. Instead, his jaw tightened."You are reckless," Kael growled, his deep voice rough and angry. "You could have died out there. You fell d
