Sliding the glass door of the balcony open, I stepped out in the chilly evening air. Goosebumps crept up my arms as a gentle breeze kissed my skin.
He stood there. While his fists were curled around the railings, his void eyes were set on the horizon painted in crimson with the setting sun. But I knew, the beauty of the evening was the last thing on his mind at that moment.
Wrapping my arms around his torso from behind, I kissed his shoulder blade. A heavy breath left him, before his stance relaxed in my hold.
"She is gone?"
I nodded against his back. "You okay?"
He took my hand in his and kissed my palm. "Now that you're here, I will be."
Moving in front of him, I snuggled his chest. His arms were quick to take me in their warmth.
"You shouldn't be out here. It's cold," he said, nuzzling my hair.
Russel Checknov was dead. One person fell off the list of our enemies. I should be happy about it. But I wasn't. Not with the feeling of dread that swirled in the pit of my stomach out of my baseless instincts about an unknown forthcoming hazard. I didn't know what it was. But I just couldn't shake off the feeling. Someone's life was at stake who was close to Jenna. There were two backstabbers in our home and gang. One of them was Robert, and the other one was still in the dark, roaming around us with a mask on their faces. And not to forget that even if Checknov was dead, Monet and Marcus were still alive. There were so many problems to solve. One of them was exposing Robert. But how could I when Robert saved Dad's life in Louisiana during their attack on Russel Checknov? How would anyone else believe my words if I myself was now suspecting my suspicion on
My heart raced down my ribcage as I shook my head. No, no, no! This isn't possible! He can't join hands with Monet against us. Anyone, but not him. Not my own brother. But my denial didn't live up to the truth before me for long as I listened to their conversation."No one saw you coming here, right?" Robert asked, casting a swift glance at the gate.Alex shook his head. "No. I was careful, don't worry.""Good," said Robert. "Here is the envelope. Everything that you need is inside it. Though I'm feeling bad for those people who are gonna die soon."Die? That meant It was indeed the same manilla envelope Jenna stole? No matter how much I didn't want to believe that my own brother would betray us, his family, he just broke my trust further when a tiny smirk tugged up at the corner of his mouth. His dark eyes were void of any emotions
I knew the voice.Zion.With panic settling in my mind, I let out a shaky breath through my lips. My hands slipped from the window sill as I slowly turned around. And there he was. Standing there with his hands in his pockets, he watched me with a smirk playing at the corner of his mouth. A smirk that mocked me.A recognition flickered in my head.Dark unruly hair, dark soulless eyes. The man I met at the pizza shop, the day before Dad gave me permission to join the office. My eyes widened. So that tattooed man was him? Zion Monet? James Monet's son. And he was following me closely."You…" A whisper left my lips."Tsk, tsk! Didn't your father teach you not to sneak into the enemy's home, princess? It could be dangerous, you know? You can get killed," he said, menace drippi
Hours passed, and I stayed in that room. Alone and tied. With no food and water. The exhaustion in my body urged me to rest my head against the top rail of the chair and allow myself to close my eyes. But the little bulb hanging above my head reminded me of what situation I was in.I was kidnapped and tied. My throat was sore from screaming my lungs out for them to release me, cursing them when no one responded. My own brother left me among my kidnappers, what would I expect from my enemies? My heart clenched as the face of the love of my life flashed across my mind. The man might be losing his sanity and looking for me everywhere. But how could he find me without knowing my location?Monet and his men were smart. They wouldn't take me somewhere where my people could easily find me. They knew how the mafia worked, they were in it for decades. So without knowing my location,
Keeping my eyes set on the person sitting inside the car with his face hidden in the shadows, I took a step back. A shaky breath left me.No! I couldn't let them get a hold on me. Not again. With my heart pounding down my chest, I took another step back. Ready to run in the opposite direction. But then the person slid out of the lavish car and stepped forward. The street light fell on him, revealing his face.A pair of urgent electric blue eyes met mine. The eyes I was so familiar with, the eyes I was so much in love with."Sofia…" His oh so familiar deep voice reached my ears.A sense of relief and happiness bloomed in my chest. Tears burned in my vision at the sight of him."Adrian!"Crying out, I sprinted towards him. And before I could reach him, he took two long desperate steps forward and hauled me
When the car screeched to a halt, I peeked outside. An enormous three story mansion greeted me with a well groomed garden and dozens of black uniformed guards parading around its parameter.Realization set in me.I turned to look at Adrian, who sat there quietly, too quiet to be normal. The uniforms of those guards and the tension in his posture told me whose mansion it was.'only for you.'His words echoed in my mind. A warmth surged through my chest. He hated his father so much that he even couldn't stand hearing his mere name. But now, he was ready to stay under the same roof with him and cooperate.Only for me.Leaning in, I put my hand on his thigh. "You don't have to do this. We can go back to your penthouse. We will have your guards there. We will be fine."Yes, I wanted him to forgive Sinister, to have a
His fingers trailed down my neck to my cleavage, leaving my skin burning in desire. My heartbeat quickened as my breathing came out laboured."You want punishment, love?" he asked in his deep husky voice.I nodded."Then why is your heart beating so fast? I can tell this anticipation isn't for the punishment. It's for something else." He brushed his lips against my jaw. The rough stubble of his against my soft skin sent goosebumps across my entire being. "Something that brings pleasure. And I can assure you, my love, punishment doesn't bring pleasure. It brings pain."His heady mascular scent, his deep voice murmuring close to my ear, his desirable lips being so close to mine and his sinful half naked frame pressing against me made me squirm underneath him."Adrian…" A whimper left me when he moved away his lips from my hungry ones.Lifting himse
Surprised, I glanced back at Adrian, whose hard gaze was set solely on his suddenly popped up cousin. And his ticking jaw told the not so good history between them. "Dominic, my boy!" chirped Sinister, patting on the almost black eyed man's back before he pulled him into a hug. "It's so good to see you here." The look on Dominic's face remained stoic, but a flicker of respect did dwell in his dead eyes as he nodded at Sinister. "What's he doing here?" A very displeased voice of my angry man rang across the room. His narrowed gaze set on Sinister, demanding an answer. "Calm down. He is here to help," replied the Russian mob boss. "Did I say I needed his help?" The volume of his voice rose. "You know his connections and ways. And to be honest, he knows my gang more than I do nowadays. So actually it's me who needs him more than anyone else over here
