Mira was humming as she walked along to the basketball field. Today was the day of practice for their team. She was wearing a red long-sleeved T-shirt combined with grey pants. The hair was hidden within her red hat.
She was in a good mood. The foot was finally healed that Azarias didn't forbid her from moving around too much anymore. It was just yesterday that she trashed that spiteful Dave. Hmm, she wanted to do it again.
Mira unwittingly caught the sight of a familiar back and groaned inwardly. It was that Jason again, embracing yet another girl against the wall.
A sudden throb of pain in her heart knocked her awake. Mira winced. A thousand curses rang into her head directed to Jason at the moment. The mate bond was such a hassle that it was even affecting her after the rejection.
What the hell is this? Mira was perplexed and undoubtedly infuriated. After mates rejected each other, weren't they supposed to act like strangers?
Mira definitely couldn't accept this. If seeing Jason with another girl could evoke such pain from her body, then, she could torture him as well right?
It's such a pity that she was single at the moment.
Ah, for the first time, she regretted that she was single.
Mira tried to managed her breathing and pretended as if the scene hadn't bothered her at all. This man doing such activities so openly in public, Mira couldn't help but frown in distaste.
She walked past both of them, unwittingly caught who the girl in his embrace was. It was Violetta.
Mira snickered inwardly, shaking her head. However, as she passed them, she caught Jason's nonchalant attitude and his smile directed at her.
It caused her eye to twitch. Did this delusional man still think that she would be so hung up on him that she'd be jealous if he did that? He was trying to provoke her.
Violetta turned her head and giggled slightly. When she caught the sight of Mira, an expression of disgust flashed across her face.
Mira didn't care about the two. She took out the ball from her bag and began to play with it. As long as Violetta didn't provoke her so directly like last time, she didn't care. She'd just return what others gave her, no matter what it was.
Hmm, a sudden notion passed Mira's head as she thought of Jason's delusional behavior. If she slapped some reality to him, he should stop bothering her, right?
"Mir!" A voice called out to her just as Mira mulled over her decision, a rare show of hesitation on her face abruptly broken at the sight of Josh walking with a bottle of water.
"Yo, Joshy. Where's Arlan?" Mira approached him and slapped his shoulder.
"Don't call me that." Josh protested indignantly. Then, he could only mutter out awkwardly, sounded unsure. "Err..."
Mira was surprised to see Josh behaving that way. He was usually blunt.
"See it for yourself."
Mira tilted her head, one of her eyebrows raised. "Arlan is already in the basketball field. Did something happen?"
The two of them walked to the basketball field. There was more than one basketball field in the area. Werewolves loved to exercise. So, most of those who were on the fields were werewolves, whether they were members of basketball teams or not.
Mira walked to the widest area, where most of the basketball team members gathered. She didn't join the girl basketball team since guys were stronger physically and she was deemed capable enough to compete with them.
The unceasing of her hand dribbling finally caught a little attention. Mira tossed the ball carelessly at the guys, who flocking together in one place.
She suddenly yawned and stretched her body, a bit tired from doing the assignments last night. She was usually sleepy in the afternoon after such a tiring activity.
Mira covered her mouth and look ahead to see who caught her ball to find that it was someone familiar. "Eh?"
"What are you doing here?"
"Jaron, you know Mira?" One of the guys inquired. Followed by the other questions full of surprise.
Mira blinked in confusion and snorted. "What's the deal with me knowing this guy?"
Even Josh, who was usually a blockhead looked surprised. He began to explain it. "The guys you usually know belong to three types."
"Your close friend, which is Azarias, Arlan, and me," Josh pointed at himself proudly. "Ha, being a close friend with someone as awesome as me. You must be proud."
Mira's lips twitched. She snatched the ball from one of the guys and threw it on Josh. It hit his forehead. Josh grumbled as he threw a forlorn look at Mira, rubbing his forehead.
"Continue," Mira said while making herself comfortable by sitting on the stool beside her teammates.
"The two others are the ones whom you beat from basketball fields and those whom you rejected after you shed your true form," Josh explained further, albeit reluctantly.
Mira was flabbergasted. "What's true form?"
Was she some kind of disguised demon or something?
Josh looked awkward. "You know, your girl form."
Azarias came and sat beside Mira, slinging his arm around the stool behind her. He also turned his head when he heard Josh's answer. This boy was too honest for his own good sometimes.
"What do you mean? Do you imply that I have two genders?" Mira scowled while the other guys laughed at that. Mira slapped the back of the nearest guy to stop him from laughing.
Josh scratched the back of his head awkwardly. Seeing Mira's glare, his mind was working fast on an excuse. Until he realized that he had unwittingly forgotten something important.
"Shit." Josh cradled his head in a depressed manner. Even more when he realized that he was still holding a bottle of water in his hand.
"Let's go." He called to Mira. "Arlan is on the other field."
Mira raised her eyebrow seeing that Josh was running away like that. She looked at the guys with a questioning look, but none of them avoided her eye contact.
Realizing that something must've happened, she hurriedly followed after Josh. She dragged Azarias with him.
"Be careful, slow down." Azarias rebuked slightly.
Mira acted as if Azarias didn't say anything. Even, she seemed to take that as an order to be faster as she picked up her pace. Azarias could only throw an exasperated look.
When Mira arrived at the scene, what greeted her caused her to be in a daze. Arlan was standing there while gulping down one bottle of water in one go. Erwin was on the other side with a triumphant look on his face.
Her eyes were on Erwin as she unconsciously muttered out. "You are--"
Mira stopped herself when she saw that Azarias was looking at her attentively. She gulped unconsciously.
The young girl gazed outside the window in a daze. The rain hadn't ended. It had been going on since a few hours ago, making her slightly anxious. A frown marred her beautiful face. The baby fat still hadn't gone, further making her look especially cute. The girl couldn't help from tapping her feet on the ground. "You little brat, what did you just do yesterday?" A voice filled with anger strolled in, causing the girl to nearly jumping from her seat. In a panic, she cursed and tried to hide under the table. The girl slipped in quickly and covered her mouth with a hand. She closed her eyes and held her breath. It was as if the one looking for her could detect her just from the smell of her breath.
Mira felt like her heart stopped for a moment, her mind and body froze as she stared ahead. The sudden explosion was like the cold water pouring down her head, a slap to reality. The dust, branches, soil, and pebbles flying randomly caused it to be hard to see what happened. Mira frantically looked around, searching for Arlan's figure amidst the chaos. Dave's thunderous roar made her heart sink. It was full of fury, and Mira knew well who was the cause of it. He had the hold of Arlan's life in his grasp. The dust hadn't settled, but Mira suddenly had an inkling from the faint connection of the Goddess's blessing. Without caring about the curse inflicting her body, Mira trudged to the source. "Let's go together." Azarias's voice sounded in her ear, and the next moment, the painful feeling from the aftershocks of the explosion was warded off. She numbly stayed in Azarias's embrace until less than a minute later, they arrived at the scene. The wa
The pained expression of the person inside was akin to a needle piercing Mira's heart. After all, he wasn't just anyone. Mira had regarded Arlan as her brother. If Azarias wasn't present, Arlan would be the next person to shield her from rain and storm.Mira's heart trembled slightly. She tried to stand up, looking at the figure in the coffin.Dave was using space magic to conceal Arlan's existence all this time. He brought him out when he realized that things had gone south. Now, the coffin was hovering vertically beside Dave, making sure that Mira could see Arlan's expression clearly. He did it on purpose."Let go of him." Her voice turned hoarse as she faced Dave, who only rolled his eyes."Do you think I am that stupid? Once I let go of him, I will be dead. That demon won't let go of me." Dave pointed at Azarias. "Demons are known as bloodthirsty creatures. Once they set their target, they will follow it until the very end."Dave had pre
Mira managed to stop herself before her body slammed into the wall. She took a deep breath and calmed her erratic heart. It was dangerous just now. Luckily, the force seemed to be less than one she had faced before. It was a sign that the warlock's power was weakening. Mira's body bent down slightly from the inertia. She looked up, and her pupils constricted. After a moment, she was back to being expressionless."Mirabella Forest, you are such a fool." The voice sounded rough, like dry branches brushed against each other.Mira said nothing, only coldly observing the person in front of her."It's such a pity that you are not dead." Red lines began to appear on Dave's face. He looked horrifying. Half of his face cracked, revealing a rotten wound. The skin on his body was patched in grey, dry color. Those were the effect of those black crystals Mira had thrown on him."You are the one asking that girl to buy the black crystals from me." Mira re
"Where's Arlan?" Mira was surprised when she saw that Josh was alone. It was currently lunchtime, and they were in the cafeteria. She hadn't seen Arlan since this morning."He probably sleeps somewhere." Josh yawned, clearly had just woken up. He must've ditched his math class again.Mira frowned. "Arlan isn't you.""Maybe something urgent came up," Azarias suggested. His hand reached out to put the strand of Mira's hair behind her ear."Hmm, that's reasonable," Mira mumbled. She stared at Erwin briefly, then looked away with a thoughtful look. She glanced at Azarias and smiled innocently when she got caught staring at him.It had been around two weeks since she went back to college. She had gotten better, thanks to the care of everyone around her.It made her realize that she had people who cared about her. She was no longer alone. However, thinking about this made her had a flashback to the conversation with Azarias two weeks ago.
Mira's eyes fluttered open. However, she was instantly looking at Azarias, who was also looking at her. She raised her eyebrow and smiled.Azarias did the same. He smiled and ruffled her hair lovingly, reaching out further to embrace her. They didn't even care about the eyes looking at them as if expecting a good drama.Mira changed her position. She now had her back leaning against Azarias's sturdy chest. She went back closing her eyes, ignoring Jason as if he didn't even exist. From the corner of Azarias's mouth, a subtle smirk formed. He glanced at Jason with a provoking gaze.Arlan and Josh, who were in the middle of playing basketball, nearly run into each other. They stopped what they were doing and walked to their friends.Seraphine was among the ones sitting on the stool, watching the basketball players on the field. Her head turned at the sound of the commotion. She shook her head when she saw that it was Jason causing a ruckus."I
