Something feels off

Aria’s POV:

I don’t talk about what happened. Not to Lizzy, my parents, or even to myself. I pretend it didn’t happen. That it was some kind of nightmare. A hallucination. A bad reaction to whatever was in that drink. People accept easier explanations when you hand them one. So I do.

“He just passed out,” I tell Lizzy the next day when she asks.

Her brows knit together. “Aria… you looked terrified when I found you.”

“I was,” I admit. That part isn’t a lie. “I thought something was really wrong.”

“Wasn’t there?” I shake my head, lying straight to her face.

“I think I just freaked out.”

She studies me for a long moment, like she’s trying to decide if she believes me. Then she nods slowly.

“Okay,” she says, even though I can tell she’s not fully convinced.

I don’t give her anything else. If I start talking now, I won’t be able to stop.

I try to go back to normal. I go to work, come home and sleep. Trying to repeat the process until I feel normal again. But normal doesn’t feel the same anymore. It feels… thinner. Like something underneath it is waiting to break through.

The first time I notice it, I’m walking home. It’s late. The chill of the air whipping against my skin. My footsteps echo against the pavement as I pull my jacket tighter around me. Suddenly I stop. I’m not alone. A eerie feeling creeping in the air. I don’t hear anything. That’s the problem. I just… feel it.

That same wrongness from the night of the party. My heart starts to pound in my chest.

Slowly, I turn my head, seeing nothing but empty streets and dark windows. I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.

“Get a grip,” I mutter to myself.

I start walking again, picking up my pace. It happens again the next day. And the day after that. Always the same feeling. Like something is just out of sight, watching me, waiting for the perfect time to strike.

By the third night, I can’t ignore it anymore. I’m not imagining this. Something is following me. I cut down a different street, my pulse racing as I glance over my shoulder. Still nothing.

“Okay,” I whisper, my voice tight. “This isn’t funny.”

No one responds. Of course not. But the feeling doesn’t go away. If anything, It gets closer. The air shifts subtly, it’s enough for me to notice though. I feel that same pressure from the night of the party creeps back in, curling under my skin. My breath catches in my throat.

“No,” I murmur, shaking my head. “Not again.”

I whirl around, this time they are there. Figures step out of the shadows like they were always part of them. At first I only see three, behind them are more, all closing in on me. My focus locks onto the ones in front. Something about them feels… heavier.

I feel their magic coming off them in waves. It is old, ancient magic. The kind that shouldn’t exist. It is controlled, powerful and monumentally dangerous. I take a step back, getting ready to make a run for it.

“Who are you?”

No one answers right away, their eyes stare holes through me. Not in a curious way. In a way that tells me they already know exactly who I am.

“You felt it,” one of them says finally, his voice calm.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“You don’t understand what you are,” another voice adds from the side.

My pulse spikes.

“Then explain it,” I snap, fear turning sharp. “Because I’d really love to know.”

“That’s not how this works.”

Something inside me shifts. That same heat from before flickers to life under my skin. It feels unstable, unpredictable. I clench my fists at my sides. I really don’t want to hurt anyone again.

“Stay back,” I warn.

They don’t listen. The first one steps forward slowly, measuring each step, like I’m not a threat to them. It makes me feel even more uneasy. Especially after what happened at the party three nights ago.

“We’re not here to hurt you,” he says.

I let out a shaky laugh.

“That’s not convincing.”

“No,” he agrees. “But it’s the truth.”

My heart is racing too fast now. The power is building again. I feel it deep inside my veins. I don’t have any idea on how to control it, or even how to stop it.

“Just leave me alone,” I say, my voice breaking slightly.

“You activated something ancient,” he continues, ignoring me completely. “Something dangerous.”

“I didn’t mean to!”

“I know.”

That stops me in my tracks. Just for a second something in his expression softens, like he feels an ounce of remorse for what he is about to do. It disappears just as fast as it came.

“But intent doesn’t matter,” he says.

The air around us tightens. It isn’t wild like before. It’s more controlled, more focused.

I feel it instantly and this time, it doesn’t feel like mine. It feels like theirs. Panic slams into me. I take another step back. This can’t be happening right now.

“No,” I whisper. “No, I’m not going anywhere with you.”

“You don’t have a choice.”

The words hit harder than anything else. Because I know they mean it. The power surges from them. It crashes into me like a wave, pinning me in place. I gasp, my body locking up as something invisible wraps around me. I can’t move. I can’t fight.

I can barely breathe.

“Stop…” I choke out.

The world starts to blur. Darkness creeps in at the edges of my vision. I struggle against it, against them, against everything. But it’s useless. The last thing I hear before everything goes black, is a single sentence.

“Welcome to Ebonveil Academy.”

  • The Girl with the Violet Eyes    Trying to stay away

Aria’s POV: It’s been four days since I’ve stayed away from Archer. When he’d looked at me in that hallway and told me to go back to my room. He said he was trying to do the right thing. I’d felt that strange hunger settle beneath my skin all four agonizing days. It had only gotten worse as each day passed by. I’d tried everything. I’ve stuffed my mouth with food, trained constantly, and even used my magic until I almost passed out from exhaustion. The worst part was that I knew what would make it stop. I could still remember what it felt like when I’d fed from him. The strange calm that had followed. The way my body had finally stopped screaming for something I couldn’t name. But I wasn’t going back. Not after he’d told me to stay away. I didn’t want to bother him. I didn’t want to make him feel like he had to let me feed from him. I certainly didn’t want to become dependent on him. So I’d suffered through it.At least I had Jasper. Things between us had been…good. Really good. H

  • The Girl with the Violet Eyes    So many feelings

Aria’s POV: I woke up thinking about Archer again. That was the first problem. The second was that I could still feel him. Somehow my body remembered everything. His arms around me. The warmth of his chest against my back. The steady rhythm of his heartbeat beneath my ear. Most of all, the taste of him. I pressed my fingers against my lips. I shouldn’t be thinking about this. I had gone to his room. I had begged him to let me feed from him. Then I’d kissed him. And if that didn’t complicate things enough, I’d fallen asleep in his arms like that was the most natural thing in the world. It wasn’t. None of this was normal. I’d spent the last few weeks trying to understand what was happening to me, and every answer seemed to lead to another question. My magic was changing. My senses were changing. My body was changing. Now I was craving something I couldn’t even name.I sat up. “Stop thinking about him.”My stomach twisted. It didn’t listen. I tried to distract myself with breakfast. It

  • The Girl with the Violet Eyes    Heated session

Lucien’s POV:I knew something was wrong the moment Aria walked into the dining hall. I smelled rain and pine before she even reached the table. I knew that scent. Archer. My eyes lifted.Aria was laughing with Crystal, completely unaware that I could smell him all over her.Not faintly. Not like she’d simply passed him in a hallway. His scent was tangled with hers.My jaw tightened. I wasn’t angry that she’d been with him. That wasn’t my concern. What bothered me was the fact that she was sitting across from me, smiling as though nothing had happened. She was keeping things from me. “Good morning, little one.”She looked at me. “Morning.”Her smile was warm. When I leaned closer, Archer’s scent became stronger. I watched her carefully. She wouldn’t meet my eyes for long. I chose to wait to say something to her. I caught up with Aria after class. She smiled when she saw me approaching. “Lucien.”“Little one.”I fell into step beside her. For a few moments, we walked in comfortable

  • The Girl with the Violet Eyes    Burning in her fire

Archer’s POV:I couldn't sleep. I'd been staring at the ceiling for nearly an hour, listening to the academy settle around me like a lie. Everything was too quiet. Too empty. Every few minutes, my hand found my neck. The marks were almost gone now.I hated that. My wolf had been restless all night, pacing beneath my skin, filling my blood with a hunger I couldn't name. A hunger that had nothing to do with food.“She's coming.” I frowned, my jaw tight."She isn't."“She will. She needs.”"You don't know that."My wolf went silent, but I felt his certainty coiling in my gut. I'd told myself I could leave it alone. That I could give Aria space. That whatever happened on the training field had been a mistake neither of us needed to repeat.I'd told myself all of those things. None of them were true. I missed her. Not just her presence. Her unique scent, that made my mouth water. Her voice, rough with need when she'd bitten me. The way she looked at me when she didn't know what to say, her

  • The Girl with the Violet Eyes    Distractions

Aria’s POV:I woke up smiling. I didn’t remember the last time that had happened. I lay beneath the blankets staring at the ceiling, trying to figure out why I felt so light. Then I remembered how I felt yesterday. How Jasper put in all that effort just to make sure I had a good day. The whole set up was beautiful. As soon as he brought me to that field, i felt butterflies instantly. The way he’d looked at me when I’d kissed him was a whole other story. A blush rose to my cheeks just thinking of it. I covered my face with my hands.“Oh my God.”I had actually kissed Jasper again. Then I’d laughed at him because he’d looked completely stunned. A smile tugged at my lips again. Maybe I was being ridiculous. Maybe one date didn’t erase everything that had happened between us.It didn’t. I still remembered the classroom.I still remembered how betrayed I’d felt. Yesterday had shown me something I hadn’t expected. There was still a part of Jasper I wanted to know. He was thoughtful and pat

  • The Girl with the Violet Eyes    First date

Aria’s POV: I couldn’t stop thinking about his neck. Every time I closed my eyes, I remembered the feeling of Archer beneath me. The taste of his blood on my lips. The way my body had reacted before my mind could catch up. The overwhelming hunger that consumed me, making me loose control. I sat at my desk with an open textbook in front of me, but I hadn’t read a single word in the last ten minutes. My eyes moved across the page again. Vampiric feeding behaviors…I forced myself to keep reading. The little I’d learned in my vampire classes had taught me enough to know that what happened yesterday wasn’t normal.Vampires fed from blood. That much I understood. But there were rules. There were consequences to feeding from the same person repeatedly. Things that could happen when a vampire became dependent on someone’s blood. I didn’t want to know what that meant for me. Especially when I couldn’t stop thinking about doing it again.I shut the book. “No.”I couldn’t. Whatever had happene
