Aria's POV

He was still standing by the window, swirling the cloudy liquid in his glass. He'd taken a huge gulp, and I knew the potent herbal extract wouldn't take long to hit.

"You know," he murmured, his gaze still fixed on the lights. "I'm still trying to track where that money came from. It's like tracing a ghost. Three layers of shell companies in three different jurisdictions. Someone really wanted this to be untraceable."

I shrugged. "What about the IRS?" I asked, pushing him further to keep talking. Because I'd rather listen to him, than let the guilt eat me up alive.

"Dad said the case is at the High Court. But he's pretty sure he'll win because of some lawyers he didn't hire. Strange right?"

He walked over to the plush, king-sized bed and sat down. He took another long drink.

"It doesn't matter," he continued, settling back against the pillows, his tone becoming noticeably slower and softer. "It doesn't matter who did it. For the first time in weeks... I don't feel like ther

Aria's POV"Why!!" I whined, a large frown taking over my face as Jason broke the kiss, holding me at arm's length, obviously enjoying this way more than he should."Because I want to be better." He says. When he says it like that, it's a pretty fucked up reason. It sounded like the most absolutely infuriating, fucked-up reason in the history of break-ups."So you're using self-improvement as an excuse not to kiss me? You're not even my boyfriend anymore. Please..." I tried to plant my lips on his but he chuckled, turning his face to the side. "Jason, please." I groaned, watching his reaction. He held my gaze, his grip on my wrists tightening. "I won't be that guy anymore. It's just like you said. I'm not touching you until..."I hissed, yanking my hands free from his grip. "Who said anything about touching? Who mentioned fucking? You and your filthy, one-tracked mind." It was a lie. My mind was definitely on fucking. "Just kiss me. I want you to kiss me. Don't you want to kiss me?"

Aria's POVI did tell Lily I was 'forgetting about it'. But who was I kidding? As soon as I returned from school today, I couldn't do anything. Of course it had. Of course, the nagging worry about the condom... or lack of it... had taken root. What if I really were pregnant?I dressed hurriedly in jeans and one of Drew's old school baggy shirts, told my dad I was grabbing snacks, and sprinted to the pharmacy that was always open. My heart was doing this pounding rhythm against my ribs that had nothing to do with exercise and everything to do with fear. I walked straight to the feminine care aisle. It was there. All I felt as I took each step closer was like I had a giant flashing sign above my head that read, POTENTIAL TEENAGE MOTHER. That was ridiculous. But I couldn't help but feel like each person in this place knew why and what I came to get. I grabbed a two-pack of the most discreetly packaged test boxes I could find, hiding them under my shirt. As I turned toward the checko

Jason's POVThe ice time had been killer today. Coach was already drilling me on defence strategies, even though the season was still a couple of weeks out. We needed the Cup this year. I leaned my head against the cool tiled wall in the shower, letting the hot water sluice off the practice sweat. God, after this all I needed was food and sleep.Or maybe I just needed a text notification from Aria.Focus, idiot, I told myself, scrubbing shampoo in my hair.It had been four days since my mum's birthday dinner, and I was holding onto my sanity by a thread. Aria had completely thrown me off with that whole "do things the old-fashioned way" line. I still didn't know what it meant, but I was pretty sure it wasn't what my hormonal, starved brain wanted it to mean.We were texting. A lot. It was like dating all over again, only ten times the anxiety. Every time my phone buzzed, I felt giddy. Don't double-text. Don't sound too eager. Wait forty-five minutes before replying. Act like I'm bus

Aria's POV It's being established. I liked being on the receiving end of filthy words. I breathed hard, as I watched Jason revel in the effects his words had on me. That single, filthy promise short-circuited my brain. And coupled with the look in his eyes that definitely was desire. I shut my eyes and reopened them, then I took a hurried step backwards, putting a safe distance between us before I lost my mind entirely. "You... you can't just say things like that," I managed. He didn't move to follow me. "Why not? It's the truth. You asked for my penance. That's the only way I know how to pay it, Aria. With everything I have left for you." "Your penance is going to be my sanity, apparently," I muttered, shaking my head and rubbing my temples. "Look, just because I forgive you doesn't mean we can get back together. We are broken up, Jason. Broken. Up. You need to remember that." "I remember the truth," he countered. "And the truth is, you're wearing that outfit for me." What th

Aria's POVThe rest of the dinner was a torture session disguised as a polite conversation. Jason kept glaring at me, then at my cleavage, then back at me, while his mother forced him to participate in a discussion about my father's plans for the school. The food was great, but all I wanted to do was wish Emily a happy birthday, thank her for having us over and get the hell out of this place. Call it nostalgia or whatever, being here brought back memories. Memories I'd like to stay buried. I was finishing my wine, ready to bolt before dessert could prolong, when Emily cleared her throat loudly from the head of the table."Right," she said. "This has been lovely, Mr Bennett, Drew. But there's an elephant the size of the Pacific in this room, and he needs to be addressed." She aimed a hard look directly at Jason."Aria, dear," Emily continued. "You and Jason need to talk. Properly. I think it's long overdue. Now, I suggest the conservatory. Jason, take Aria there.""But..." I opened m

Jason's POVWe pulled up to the mansion in absolute silence. Mum didn’t even look at me when she opened the car door and stepped out. I scrambled to follow her into the house."Mum, please. Let me at least try to fix the mood," I pleaded, grabbing her arm. "I know I messed up, okay? Badly. But don't let it ruin everything."She pulled her arm away, her expression stone cold. "Go upstairs, Jason. Go get ready for the guests. And don't ask any questions, because right now, I have nothing nice to say to you. You did a disgusting, cruel thing to a girl who was already suffering. Just go."I knew better than to push. Asking more questions would only unleash another round of justifiable fury. I turned and practically jogged upstairs. As I dressed, my mind wandered. Accepting that what I'd done was wrong, was one thing. But thinking about how Aria would have felt? It was worse. It brought so much guilt that it was suffocating as I dressed. Revenge sex.God, the phrase sounded vile. Mum was
