Writer's POV

"Okay? Are you kidding me? After your girlfriend came back and your parents took her job away from her, and she's dying of cramps right now, and her fucking father will not stop saying how useless she is? How do you expect her to be okay?"

Jason's lips twitched. He's currently pulling on a shirt and jeans with one hand on his phone. "I don't have a girlfriend." He said to Lily.

"Well, tell that to the girl who said she's yours." Lily hissed and hung up.

"Dary!" Jason muttered and he went downstairs, where he met Dary in the adjoined kitchen. She wore an apron around her curvy body as she cooked and hummed to herself.

For a little while, he got lost just by staring at her. Her, in an apron cooking brought back so many memories. It wasn't until she turned and their eyes met that he remembered the reason why he'd come.

"Hey, I'm making your favourite," Dary said happily.

"Did you answer my call last night?" Jason asked, folding his arms across his rigid chest.

"Oh, I did. It

LILYI'm sitting on the crinkly paper of the exam table, staring at a poster of the human reproductive system like it’s the most interesting thing in the world. It is now. At least it's keeping me from doing anything. Elizabeth is hovering by my side, her hand resting on my shoulder.Doctor Louisiana walks in, clicking her pen. She’s got that same warm smile that she has each time I come in for an appointment, but there’s a little extra twinkle in her eye today."Alright, Lily. We got the results back from the NIPT screening. Everything looks healthy, which is the most important part.""Great," I say. My voice is flat. I'm not smiling. I know she can tell this place is the last place I want to be. "So, what is it? A boy? A girl? Can I go now?"Elizabeth gives my shoulder a gentle squeeze. "Lily, be patient."The doctor chuckles, moving the ultrasound wand over my small bump. The gel is cold, and I shiver. I just want her to say the word so I can leave."Well," the doctor says, eyes fi

LILYI didn't realize that saying yes to the baby was basically a formal invitation for my body to... I don't know... to declare war on me.The last three weeks haven't been a journey. I feel like I'm often under a kind of siege. If I'm not leaning over the toilet bowl praying for a quick end, I'm face-down on my bed, feeling like someone drained my blood. I am so tired that my lashes feel heavy.I’m currently sprawled on the rug in the living room because the walk from the stairs to my room feels tiresome, like trekking across the Sahara Desert."Lily! Lily! Lily! Look at my dinosaur! He’s eating your hair! Rawr!"Jace. Again. He’s been a constant, buzzing mosquito for the last hour. He doesn't understand that his voice sounds like a..."Jace, stop," I mutter into the rug."Rawr! He’s hungry!" The dinosaur plastic head thumps against my temple. "Jace! Stop!" I scream. "Leave me alone! Go play with your stupid toys elsewhere!"He shrinks back, his eyes widening. He drops the dinosaur

AIDENThe blonde puck bunny beneath me is tight. Like, insane levels of tightness. Her tits are great... pale, perfect, moving with every thrust. But still... she's not Lily. My eyes drift to the row of dented metal lockers behind her head, my mind already checking out. It doesn't matter how many puck bunnies I fuck. At the end of the sex, I'll just be reminded of how many months I have left to graduate and go find my girl.I groan as I come again, pulling out of her and I'm already moving away to dispose of the condom wrap."That was hot." She stands up, breathless and flushed all over. She doesn't bother to clean herself, just starts reaching for her discarded cheer outfit. I watch her for a second. I don't have the words. I just nod, leaning my head against my locker. She finishes dressing and leaves, swaying her hips on the way out, glancing back with a smirk like she thinks I'd call her for a second time? No. Fucking no. We don't do that over here.Sex is just my coping mechanis

LILYI know that even though Elizabeth and Cole keep assuring me each day that I should keep calm and do things at my own pace, they expect me to decide when I'm gonna see a doctor. I pace the length of the small rug beside my bed, my toes digging into the fibres. I mean, yeah, sure. You'd want the best for your kid. No pressure, nothing. But how do you ask them to do the right thing and not pressure them? It's expected. I'm supposed to see a doctor. I need to make sure I'm fine. I need to make sure the baby's fine. I need to know how far along I am and if there's anything that I inevitably want to know, it's whether I'm keeping this baby. I get on my feet and get dressed in a sundress. My hair tumbling behind my back, I put on some lip gloss and step back to check the way I look in the full-length mirror of my room.Yes. My room. Elizabeth got it designed a week ago and it's to my taste. The only thing I dislike about it, is how easily Jace can enter like fifty times a day. He doe

LILYElizabeth just stares at me. Her mouth opens. Closes. Opens again. She looks like she's trying to catch words that aren't there. Her hand is still resting on my arm, warm and grounding.I don't know why I said that. I shouldn't have. I mean... that wasn't the plan. I intended to hide my pregnancy for as long as I could. Wrap myself in oversized clothes until... I don't know? But I think I panicked or something."So..." she glances at my hand on my stomach. "You're pregnant?" She repeats. I nod again because nodding is easier than talking. My throat is thick, clogged. "Yeah, I don't know how far along I am. I haven't... I haven't done anything yet. You know, what pregnant teens do?" My laugh comes out wrong. "High school took up my time, actually. I... I had a boyfriend and I..." Cole finally turns around in his seat. Fully this time. His expression isn't angry or disgusted like I braced for. It's stunned. Concerned, even. He looks at Elizabeth first, then at me. “Pregnant,” he

AIDEN"You hit my father! Now he's..." She doesn't finish. She can't. She just collapses into Jason's chest. She hasn't really spoken to me since... well, since the ambulance came and whisked her father to the hospital. I feel like absolute shit. Jason's eyes are locked on her. He won't even give me a glance. He's too busy comforting his girl. And my girl? I’d let Lily slip through my fingers because I couldn't keep my hands at my sides or my mouth shut. My temper was a wildfire, and now it was burning down the only bridge I had left to my friends.I shake my head, standing and walking toward the exit. I can't stay here anymore. I get into my truck and drive back home. Home, I call it. It's so empty and cold that I flop on the floor, leaning against the table as I let my face fall into my palms and the tears start rolling. What the fuck have I done? I've messed with my life. Like messed with it. Lily is my focus. If she's not here, then I'll spiral. My phone is pressed to my ears as
