Chapter 7

The Governor’s Son Chapter 7

DENVER GOES HOME scared for his life. He never opens the heavy bag he carried all along… he is afraid this has a bomb inside or something scarier. The bus stopped when he requested to stopover.

He runs as fast as he can to go home. It’s nighttime, and his mother is undoubtedly waiting inside. Denver opens the gate—holding his neck. His stomach is twisting when he remembers how did Angelito puts the gun inside his mouth.

He is crying when going inside their home. Maxine halted her footsteps when seeing him crying at the door. She is holding a plate of rice for their dinner—her excitement to see her only son quickly changes into despair.

“Son!” she screams and puts the plate on the table. Denver’s ailing knees make him fall on the floor in extreme trauma and terror.

“Mama! Mama, let’s leave this place!” he is panicking when saying those words. Maxine closed the door, and his son was so pale—like a bloodless vampire.

“What are you saying?! Why you’re so pale and scared?!” she asked, but he could not get a proper response in his stuttering voice. Denver is tremendously shaking in trauma.

“H-He g-give m-me that b-bag!” Maxine holds her face and lets the heat of her hand from the hot rice settle down.

“Breathe in…. breathe out,” she orders, and a moment later, Denver calms his nerves.

Maxine hugs her son to comfort him. He always shares his experiences, but today Denver is quite strange and uneasy.

“Okay… you can tell, mama. What’s inside the bag?” she inquires serenely, and then Denver whines because he doesn’t know what’s inside.

“H-He said I will open it w-when I go home,” he still stammers when sobbing—catching his breath traumatic experience. Maxine walks to it and looks at her son.

She took a deep breathe to have the courage to open the bulky black bag.

“Who gave you this?” An intriguing question for a fascinating thing.

Denver doesn’t hesitate to reply the truth, “A-Angelito.”

Maxine’s pupils dilated in extreme shock. She opened the bag and what surprised her was the pile of money!

“You lie to me that you will go to your classmate?!” she screams out of anger. Denver doesn’t know what to react, but crying is the only way to let his fears and worries out.

“Sorry, mama! Sorry!” she throws the bag and hugs him out of her mercy. Her son is traumatized by the governor’s son.

AFTER THEY EAT, Denver finally calms down, and they both count the money. It’s two million and four hundred thousand pesos in total. That money is enough to support them in three years.

However, Maxine picks herself up and grabs her son to bring the money to the police station. “No… No…. Please don’t go! Mama—“

“You will go with me tonight! I will not tolerate this no one is above the law! Let’s go!” His mother is scarier than anyone else in his perspective.

Denver wears his slipper and silently goes with his mother. Upon their arrival at the police station—he looks for inspector Medina that is now an hour before his off.

“Oh! Mrs Nervar. It’s good to see you—“

“My son was harassed by Angelito and he gave this to silence us!” She throws the bag, and all the police look at her. Medina paused and sighed.

“Please follow me for a more private conversation,” he walks as the two follow him up to the investigating room. Lotus Medina puts the bag on the table and opens it up.

“Oh… money?” Maxine nodded to agree to his word.

“How did Angelito harassed him? Can you describe it further enough for me to put it on the record?”

Subsequently, Denver cannot utter a word because of his post-trauma.

“My son cannot speak because of him. Who is he to harass him like this?! My son deserves to live a mundane life like other teenagers.” He holds Denver’s hand to comfort his tense muscles.

“I-I will l-leave his money—“

“No, I will complain for physical harassment because I can see some reddish marks on his neck. Maybe that Angelito chokes my son to death then gave that shitty to silence us!”

Medina stays calm under pressure. His gracious facial expression makes Maxine calm down too.

“Is he under a syndicate? I want him in jail. So I will complain on behalf of my son—“

“However, we cannot put in the statement that ‘maybe Angelito choke him’ thing. We need concrete because he can use this against the two of you.”

He is telling the truth. This time, Maxine files a case for his son against Angelito. Lotus Medina is silent, but his villainous side starts to kick in because he archived the last document.

“Done. I will leave the money in here—“

“Please… take this home. We are not guaranteeing its safety under our investigation,” Medina suggested as he gave the bag.

“I’m also thirsty for justice because my husband died in forest fire. The landlord of the hacienda we’re working is heartless and set an arson. Unfortunately, my husband died in suffocation. I don’t want my son to experience injustice in this cruel world. I will take this, please do further investigation because we will find a way to pay.”

The two goes out of the police station. Lotus Medina grips his black hair because it’s off, but he needs to process this complaint. He passed the paper to his minion and was excited to call Don Pablo.

He dials his number and anxiously waits for the governor to pick up at this crucial time.

“Hello, Medina? How may I help you?” Don Pablo greeted on the line.

“Buenas noches, gobernador. Pardon my interruption in this crucial hour of your rest,” he apologizes for his call because maybe the governor is now taking his rest from work.

Don Pablo chortles on the line. “Please continue, Medina.”

He sighed and then discreetly observed his surroundings.

“You’re son received two complains.”

Don Pablo blinks fast and stands up from his couch to breathe deep.

“Mi hijo?” his voice raises.

“Si, gobernador,” he instantly responded.

“Por pabor…. I don’t want to have him such a bad record,” Don Pablo pleaded to Medina. The inspector sniffs because of the cold air.

“What will I do?”

Don Pablo twitches an evil smile while holding his phone. He whirls his rum with ice before sipping to heat up the moment.

“May I know, who are the complainants?”

Lotus speaks, “Denver Nervar and his mother Maxine. The one he used as a substitute in jail.”

“Interesting. Sabes qué hacer. (You know what to do)”

Medina lights up a cigarette. “Your son gave them two and four million worth of money. Check his account, gobernador. I will send a man to do the job.”

“Muy bien. (Very good) I will let Barbie to process to shorten his months inside the cell. Silence the mother first and I will let mi hijo to silence the boy. Lo intiendes?”

“Yes, Don Pablo. I got your back. Gracias port u tiempo. (Thank you for your time)”
