Lydia Harold looked at my serious expression and chortled.

“Summer, do you know what you’re talking about?

“Don’t forget, you’re sleeping in the maid’s room, and I’m occupying a suite. I have a monthly allowance of one million dollars, and you have nothing.

“If you’re saying Mom and Dad don’t love me, are you implying that they love you instead?”

I nodded in certainty.

“Well, you can only compare to me, since I didn’t grow up with Mom and Dad. However, do you dare to compare what you have with Axel?”

Axel Harold was the eldest son of the Harold family and our older brother.

Lydia frowned.

“What do you mean? Axel and I grew up together. Of course, Mom and Dad treat us the same.”

I smirked nonchalantly.

“The same? Then, why don’t you have Harold Corporation’s shares? Don’t you know the company shares are the most important asset in wealthy families?

“The heirloom jewelry you have is not even comparable to the value of Harold Corporation’s shares.”

Lydia wanted to refute me, but she knew that I was right.

Hence, she barked at me fiercely, “Stop trying to drive a wedge between us! I’m going to tell Mom and Dad about this!”

I crossed my arms and looked at her indifferently.

“I’m just reminding you out of goodwill. Since you’re engaged to the Brown family, our company’s shares have gone up in value. Axel’s net worth also skyrocketed because of that.

“But who cares about you? George’s nothing but a playboy. Do you think after you marry him, you’ll be happy?”

The Harold family needed to offer up a daughter for the arranged marriage. After I returned home, I should have been the one who would marry George Brown.

However, our parents worried that Lydia would be insecure.

Hence, they threw my welcome back party alongside Lydia’s engagement party.

Indirectly, they were announcing to everyone that even though their real daughter had returned, Lydia was still their daughter.

Lydia was smiling from ear to ear on her engagement day.

At the same time, our parents and Axel came back home.

“It was Summer… Summer snuck into your bedroom and took the necklace. She claims that all of this belongs to her.

“I wanted to snatch it back to return it, but she let go of the necklace when you came in.”

After saying that, she offered a fake apology.

“I’m sorry, Mom. I didn’t take good care of the item you left me.”

As I listened, I could not help but sneer.

She was the one who claimed that the jewelry would be her wedding gift. She said that I would never get these in my life.

However, she was pushing the responsibility onto me.

None of them gave me a chance to explain myself.

Axel strode toward me and slapped me.

My head jerked sideways from the impact, and my ears were ringing.

He said, “I knew you weren’t a good person.”

Dad stood a few steps away as his face darkened.

“I told you that poor people are wicked too. Those in poverty are the best at playing tricks.”

Mom was trembling in anger. “Look at you! How dare you touch our family heirloom?

“If it wasn’t for the fear of judgement, do you think we would have let you return?”

After she said that, she immediately turned to comfort Lydia.

“Alright, I’m not blaming you. You were just trying to do the right thing. Don’t cry anymore, alright? Everything in the Harold family will one day belong to you. No one can take them away from you.”

Axel grabbed my shoulder and shoved me out.
