The cold stone floors bit into the soles of my bare feet as I stepped into the chamber.

The heavy doors slammed shut behind me with a thud of finality, and for a moment, the silence was so thick I could hear my own heartbeat pounding in my ears.

This was it.

The first trial.

The Trial of Will.

Nearly 5 months had passed since I'd been in the Citadel. Weeks and weeks of training with Ronan and it all led up to this moment.

I exhaled slowly, forcing my shaking hands to still at by sides. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Ronan had explained that the trials were designed not just to test my body, but to crack open my mind, my spirit— to see if I was worthy of the Moonborn legacy.

My chest tightened. Was I?

A shudder ran through me as I felt the air in the chamber shift. A pale mist appeared from the centre, creeping along the edges of the room. I spread fast, curling around my ankles—cool and damp like ghostly fingers gripping me slowly and pulling me in.
