I didn’t sleep.

Not even for a second.

My candle had burned out hours ago, but I didn’t even notice the lack of light. The words on the pages glowed with something deeper, something ominous—fear, revelation.

Tenebrium.

I must’ve read the word at least a dozen times, hoping it would somehow mean something different. Something less terrifying.

It didn’t.

I slammed the book shut just as the first light of dawn broke over the tall trees. A part of me hoped I was imagining things—that this was all some celestial vision that hadn’t faded. But the book was still in my hands, heavy and real as the looming threat.

With the early morning light came my need for a fresh set of eyes. I rushed out the doors before I could stop myself.

My feet carried me past the halls. The air still held the chill of night. This time, I didn’t bother to knock when I reached Ronan’s door—I pushed it open and stepped inside.

He jolted upright immediately, a dagger in hand. Years of training had made him alert, ev
