I woke up gasping.

Sweat ran down my neck and back as my heart raced. For a split second, I couldn’t remember where I was. The walls, the ceiling, the bed… none of it felt real.

It rang in my head, over and over, like a bell I couldn’t stop. The uneasy feeling I'd felt as it slipped past my lip, like I’d unlocked something ancient and dangerous by saying it out loud.

“Shit,” I muttered, swinging my legs out of bed. My skin prickled with cold as the covers left my body, but my chest felt hot.
