I was unable to catch some sleep. Everywhere was so hot and and still feeling dizzy after I had devoured the petite chick here. It was the best sex of my life, I swear. My phone rang and immediately, my eyes cleared and it dawned on me what I had done. I picked up the call andI was told my attention was needed at the palace. I rushed downstairs and I called my driver to come pick me up but he reminded me that I had instructed him to go home. I still felt a bit dizzy and needed help to get to the palace. I jumped into my car but I couldn't see properly as I drove.

The road seemed to twist beneath my tires as I struggled to keep my vision clear. I have gotten really tense up by the call. I was called urgently to the palace, but the headache was much more than I could endure. Before I could walk to the gates, the guards ran towards me in a bid to help me.

“Your Highness!”

I was helped inside in no time, sat down as I held tightly to my head.

“What was the problem, Prince Alaric?” the royal aide inquired.

“I can't really say.” I whispered. “I guess…I guess someone drugged me.

The palace royal advisor entered almost immediately. He was like a father to me, someone I had always accorded deep respect to. He signalled for the guards to leave the room.

“My prince, there is a mission at hand that needs to be attended to urgently”, he said.

“What is it all about?” I inquired.

“Yes, something tragic is happening at the southern kingdom and I will love you to handle it and you will be leaving in three days time.” He explained.

“But… I hesitated. “There is something I need to handle first.”

“Not at all, you have been careless enough. I got the information about what happened at the hotel.” He said sharply. You need your full concentration, you cannot afford to be distracted.”

I couldn't even tell him about her- I didn't even know her name. But yet, I couldn't let go of her thoughts in my mind. Her soft lips. The way she moaned. The way she clung to me like we were made for each other.

LYRIANA’s POV

I woke up by 9am and tried to move but I couldn't since I had sex all through the previous night. I tried to find my way towards the bathroom which I did. I brushed my teeth and took my bath. As I moved to the kitchen and the living room, I noticed Alaric was nowhere to be found. I stayed up till eight o'clock in the evening but Alaric never showed up, and whenever the door made any sound, I thought it was him, but it was the room service. The next day, I returned to my apartment and met with Chloe, who was happy that I wasn't a virgin anymore. She wanted to know about Alaric, but I didn't know what to tell her.

At first, I found it hard to believe the obvious, but seeing his belongings in the suite left me with some level of hope. I went back to the hotel after a week, but I couldn't find Alaric. I went back home with nothing. With the hopes that I would see him again, I continued going back to the hotel. I just accepted it for what it was.

I was just meant to be a one night stand. We had a very nice time together, and that was it. School resumed and Chloe had to go back to the city to resume her academic activities and I went back to the Callista palace.

I couldn't help but to keep thinking of the night whenever I was alone. The kisses, touch and the sex….Oh no! It was so good and I craved for more.

Two months later, the queen had invited me over to the palace hall for a discussion. She had started to discuss how I need to start considering getting married so that the lineage doesn't die like that. I needed to get married as a virgin to my husband for him to become the heir to the throne.

“Lyriana, I have brought you up with discipline and high morals, and now you are of age, you need to start considering getting married.” She started.

“You are going to get married to one of the noble men in town and I am so grateful that the child I raised is pure.” She continued.

I smiled inside of me. Only if this woman knew what I did.

While we were in the middle of the discussion, I started to feel nauseous and dizzy.

“Mother, I feel…” I slumped.

“Somebody help!!!” The queen screamed aloud and two maids rushed in almost immediately.

“Get me the physician now!!!. The queen yelled.

“Right away, my queen” said one of the maid as she rushed out

Few minutes later, the physician walked in with the maid and I was revived. The physician carried out some medication investigations on me.

As the physician examined my pulse. His fingers felt cold against my wrist. He raised his brows, he stepped closer to me and softly positioned his hand over my stomach.

“Kindly, excuse us for now.” The physician said to the maids and they walked out of the room.

“My queen, he started then paused. “It seems the princess is carrying a child.”

It sounded so unbelievable, “With child”?. That is not possible. I was the example of virtue. The virgin heiress. Brought up with strict morals and discipline. Those were my mother's words and what everybody believed.

The queen’s face was filled with disbelief. “What sort of nonsense are you saying? This is Lyriana, She is pure”

The physician looked down respectfully. “My Queen, I know your worries. But the symptoms are evident, though I will still carry out a thorough checkup on her but the signs are glaring.

I remained speechless. The room stood still. I held onto the edge of the seat, my heart beating very fast.

“Get out!” the queen yelled at the physician.

He bowed and walked out silently.

Immediately he was out, the queen turned to me, fears and disappointment filled her eyes. “Lyriana, she said softly, her voice filled with controlled anger. “Do you have something you want to talk to me about?”.

I turned away. I wanted to deny it. To lie. But something restrained me from doing so.

“I only did it once.” I said under my breath, my voice shaking. “This wasn't my plan. I didn't even know what his name was.

I couldn't interpret her expression. She focused her eyes on me for a long time, then she eventually looked away. She positioned her hands on the edge of the window as she tried to catch her breath.

“You have brought nothing but shame and disgrace to the royal bloodline” she said coldly.

My eyes were filled with tears, but I controlled myself from letting it all out.

“I’m sorry, Mother.”

“It isn't that easy,no amount of sorry will ease the shame and the disgrace. I don't think you know the gravity of this that you have done. The entire nobility will rise against us if they find out, especially our rival kingdom, Ardonia kingdom. The bloodline is compromised.

We both maintained a long, tense filled between us before she turned back to me.

“This is going to be a secret. No other person must know that you are pregnant. We will only say that you are sick. “You are going to carry this child in secrecy.

My breath caught. “What about the baby?”

“We will definitely know what to do when it is time. But you should never speak of the father to anyone. Whoever he was…..he no longer exists.’

I nodded slowly, numb.

But deep inside of me, a thought disturbed my peace.

What if I didn't see him ever again? What if he never knew?

What happens to the Callistian Kingdom?

The silence that ensued after Elowen left the chamber was worse than her presence. It wasn't a silence that brought comfort, it was one that pressed itself against my lungs and coiled around my bones. Her last words kept re-echoing in my ears, burning like frostbite. Freedom is an illusion.I kept my gaze on the chamber door long after it was closed, just as if her shadow stood there, expecting me to falter. My hands were trembling as I placed it at the table’s edge. So much has been uncovered.Yet, the facts remained undeniable. She was aware. She knew a lot beyond the council, alliances and duties. What I wanted to remain a secret and finally be seen by her. I have been betrayed by Alaric's name, and it was evident even in every breath that I drew.I couldn't help but admit how deep the betrayal had cut into me. She had gotten those facts from someone, a spy that was within. The chamber has never been my own private room, it was another prison in disguise.I exhaled slowly, but it e

I had always believed that stillness was comforting. The sound that came from the rustle of the branches and the hum from the unseen creatures had always felt like a shield, a veil that had covered and protected me from the world. Even though my chambers were overwhelmed in stillness, It was that kind. It was overwhelming, heavy and filled with unsaid truths that I wasn't ready to deal with.Every part of the council chamber replayed in my mind, the silent whispers, how Elowen was using her eyes to search through the room, every murmur of Alaric’s name dragging me back into the storm that I still struggled with.Alaric.My chest aches as I remember his name. The summit should have ended the fragile connection, the fragile though undeniable thread of recognition that we had. Now, his presence still remained with me.I placed my palms on the table that was before me.“I cannot afford this,” I whispered, though there was no one in the room to hear. But the words tasted hollow. The words

  • The Heir I Know    CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE: LYRIANA'S POV

The forest had engulfed me.I took each step softly but I heard them in my ears, even though I tried to move silently and unseen. My cloak became my second skin. It clung roughly to my skin and my cheeks were burnt by the cold night wind. I struggled with the thought of looking back but I couldn't. Looking back could bring back memories of the walls of the palace, the chain, the voices, the blood I had shed, the man I had once thought a saviour who had almost become my destroyer, back to my mind.I was convinced that this was freedom but I couldn't help but wonder why it felt so heavy. The silver blade, thin-like moon that was above which cut through a sky that seemed to bleed darkness. My chest tightened at every snap of a twig and the distant cry of an owl. My thoughts echoed more than the forest. They were chasing me, whispering doubts to me.You ran. You left without saying a word.My mind was occupied with Alaric’s face–the sharp jawline, the unreadable reflections in his eyes, h

I had never believed reflection. They always moved too easily, too silently, as if they carriedsecrets the rest of us weren't meant to see. Tonight, however, I wasn't merely watchingreflections were walking among them. And I am so sure that one of them still has its breath.Coldness had always engulfed the passageways of the fortress, but it seems the stones bleed with uneasiness tonight. I took each footsteps softly, yet they still echoed in my ears. I pulled my cloak tighter, as though fabric could shield me from whatever lingered justbeyond the reach of the torchlight. There had been whispers in the hall earlier, servants muttering about strange movements near the western wing. At first, I shrugged it off but then Servants thrived on gossip. But then out of the corner ofmy eye caught a flicker, a presence that was gone as quickly as it came. Not Alaric. Something else. Something to watch.I should have gone to Alaric. Or perhaps. But trust is a delicate thing nowadays.Alaric'

  • The Heir I Know    CHAPTER TWENTY THREE: LYRIANA'S POV

The silence between us ensued for a moment. It was a living, breathing thing. Ryn moved ahead, his shoulder rigid as though he carried a weight that was too heavy for him to carry. The floor beneath his boots crackled, but he remained silent. I walked behind him as he took each step that pressed hard against the ground, expecting him to speak toe or even look at me but he maintained his cruel quietness. The scent of damp pine filled the air, but something heavier hung in the air–the smell of blood that was spilled earlier on. My heart pounded as the thought of the ambush, the chaos and how he had struggled to keep me alive came to my mind. He rescued me again. I had been haunted, more than the claws that had almost torn me apart, by the look on his face filled with unspoken truths, “Ryn,” I finally said gently. He didn’t slow. I walked a bit faster until I caught up with him, refusing to be muted. “It's better you stop being like this, stop doing this.” “What do you

  • The Heir I Know    CHAPTER TWENTY TWO: LYRIANA'S POV

The narrow passage was filled with the scent of damp stone and decay, yet the oppressive air felt alive, like we were being watched by it as we moved. I struggled with steadying my trembling hands, the warmness of blood still clung to my fingers, reminding me of the life I had taken. Heart beat faster, echoing in my ears, Ryn held my shoulders firmly, encouraging me, but his look betrayed his words. “We need to keep moving. We would be able to get to the lower courtyard through the servant’s passage. Then, we can be safe…at least for now.”I nodded. I struggled to take a step, I felt aches all over my body, distressed not just because I was tired but by the gravity of what I had done. The scene rushed through my mind: I had taken someone’s life. Beneath the shock, I had a strange clarity, one which was strangely to me.Without saying a word, selves. Rays of light faintly lightened our part due to faint cracks, painting our shadows onto the rough stone floor. I sensed movement–a s
