Chapter 1918 A Fool's Gamble

Author: Night Eleven
Horace turned his phone off. He could only trust the Blazecrust support agent now to recover all his money. Taking his unfinished coffee with him, he left the shop and hailed a cab.

Right after getting in, Rowan called. "Horace, where are you? We'll treat you to a meal."

Horace spoke quietly. "It's fine. You guys go ahead."

"Alright." Rowan paused. "Horace, listen—stop playing on Blazecrust. I took down the ad right after you left. If not, more people would get scammed."

Horace grew impatient. "Got it. I have things to do. I'm hanging up."

His place wasn't far from the cafe, and the cab dropped him off at his apartment building. After Horace paid and got out, he kept staring at his phone. He did not want to miss any insider tips from the support agent.

A voice came from behind. "Horace, why did you take a cab home? Where's your car?"

Horace turned to look at her. "Mom, there's a problem with the car. I sent it to the repair shop. It'll take a few days."

The SUV pulled to a stop. Aria and Travis climbed out, and the driver took off for the parking garage. Aria looked up at the apartment building. This area was nice enough, though the buildings had definitely seen better days. Travis glanced at her. "Ms. Carver, right this way." Aria nodded and followed him to the elevator. They rode up and walked straight to his apartment. Travis had barely opened the door when they heard yelling from inside. "Give me back my phone! I need to win that money back!" They couldn't see who was shouting. The voice came from somewhere deeper in the apartment. Travis hesitated. "Ms. Carver, I've got Horace locked in his room." Aria looked up. "Show me his phone." Travis nodded quickly and turned to Cecilia. "Get Horace's phone for Ms. Carver." Moments later, Aria was scrolling through Horace's phone. She checked his Facebook messages first and smirked. It was such an obvious scam, yet he'd walked right into it. She opened the browser next an

If it were a call from back home, Aria would have recognized the number. She thought for a moment, then pressed the answer button without speaking. When the person on the other end saw the call connect, he asked, "Is this Mrs. York?" She'd just heard Randall call her that a couple of days ago. She paused. "Uncle Randall?" Randall chuckled and said, "Mrs. York, it makes me happy to hear you calling me that." Aria looked up. "I'm glad to hear that, Uncle Randall. Landon calls you uncle, so it's only right I do the same." "Thank you for trusting me, Mrs. York." Randall's voice grew serious. "Please know that I trust you just as much." Aria laughed softly. "You're too kind, Uncle Randall. But why are you calling me?" Randall's tone grew heavier. "There's something I might need your help with, Mrs. York. I actually reached out to Mr. York first, but he said I should talk to you. That's why I'm calling." Aria asked, "Hmm, you're quite an influential figure in Portfall, Uncle

Rowan quickly called after Horace. "It's fine, Horace. We'll just earn money the honest way. Think of it as entertainment." Wystan chimed in too. "Rowan is right. Everyone makes bad calls sometimes. There are scammers in real life, and the ones online are even sketchier. You should stop playing too." Horace nodded slightly. "Yeah, got it." He could not hide the disappointment in his eyes. As Rowan watched Horace's retreating figure, he said, "Wystan, something feels off about Horace." Wystan nodded gently. "I feel it too. It's like he's losing himself to the gambling game." Rowan felt a pang of regret. "I wouldn't have taken that job if I'd known. Then Horace wouldn't have seen it and wouldn't have played this crap." Wystan shook his head. "Even if he didn't see it now, it doesn't mean he wouldn't run into it later. Let's text him and tell him not to play anymore." They both pulled out their phones and sent messages to Horace. Back in his car, Horace sat there feeling f

Rowan Yestin, who was lying in bed, opened his eyes groggily. "Are you insane? It's early in the morning. What the heck do you want?" The other young man, Wystan Lurnon, got up and yanked his blanket off. "Get up already! I found a way to make some money!" Rowan sat up when he heard that. "Really? Wystan, if you're just messing with me, you're dead." Wystan pointed at the computer screen. "Someone just sent a file to my backend asking us to run their ads. They'll pay us 2,000 dollars as long as we keep it up for two hours." Rowan paused. "Are you sure? That's basically free money." Wystan nodded hard. "Of course I'm sure! They already sent me a thousand as a deposit. Once we finish, they'll send the other thousand." "Show me what kind of ad this is." Rowan sat down at the computer and looked at the email. "Isn't this just gambling ads? What if people get scammed?" Wystan waved dismissively. "It's not our problem if they get scammed. It just means they're way too greedy.

The sudden intensity knocked Aria off balance. She shook her head a little, trying to snap out of it. But the heat from Landon's hand was too hot to brush off. "Hold on." Aria's breath came fast and ragged, like she'd sunk into quicksand. The harder she fought, the deeper she went. Landon smiled down at her, yanking his collar open with one hand. A shirt button popped off and hit the floor. His dark shirt made his neck look even paler, giving off an air of control and hunger. Any woman would've melted on the spot. After all, Landon was tall, loaded, and gorgeous. He was literally the best man anyone could ever ask for. But all Aria could focus on was his throat and those faint veins under his skin. Her throat went dry, and she had this wild urge to just sink her teeth in. Landon did not smell like cologne, yet it was such a pleasant scent. Aria felt the need to just eat him alive. Her fists balled up tight. Between her dry throat and that amazing smell coming off him, she
