Chapter 9: Sweet Lily

*Lily’s POV*

People always think I’m sweet.

Well, that is because I gave a polite smile, a gentle laugh, and I tilt my head when someone else is speaking as though their words mean the world to me, it’s all a performance and I’ve perfected it.

They call me the good one, the obedient daughter and the graceful sister.

I am the girl who always says thank you, who never raises her voice, who knows which fork to use at dinner.

It’s all an act, I’m not good. I’m hungry and hungry girls don’t survive by being genuinely nice.

From the moment Hannah walked through the door, I knew she didn’t belong here, she carried herself like someone who had grown up on scraps. She didn’t know how to flatter, she bit back. She didn’t bow to the weight of our parents’ expectations, she bristled against them. She was rebellious and that was a turn off for me. Haha!

The Bristos and the Blacks have been circling each other for decades, their fortunes intertwined, their empires touching a

Chapter 48: Get ready for Lily**Hannah’s POV**I wanted to slap Lily.Honest to God, my palm itched for it. Instinct almost made me raise my hand, but maybe my reverend sister Martha had been praying overtime for me. Because somehow, I found the strength to drop my hand back down, curl my nails into my palm, and keep my temper chained.“I am John Grisham,” the guy at the cubicle nearest to Lucas’ office announced suddenly, his voice cutting straight through the charged silence like a badly timed trumpet.I was already angry at him for having a big mouth. What did he mean by cat and ratI blinked at him. He leaned back in his chair with a grin that was far too wide, like he was the audience to a private play between me and Lily and was enjoying every second of the drama.“It’s work etiquette to introduce yourselves,” he continued, smirk clownish, eyebrows wiggling as if this whole moment was a stand-up routine. At least he didn’t look wicked. No sharp edges, no calculating smirks like

Chapter 47: Cat and Rat**Lily’s POV**I could feel Hannah’s glare burning into my back like a laser as Damon led us through the company halls. She walked behind me, stiff, quiet, and judgmental, while I kept my chin lifted, plastering on my most graceful smile. It is beautiful to win.The Bristo Enterprise tour was impressive. I drank every part of it in like a queen surveying her kingdom. Sleek walls of glass reflected the light, humming machines whispered efficiency, and every workspace buzzed with a precision that screamed legacy. My legacy with Lucas.Damon’s voice guided us through each section, calm and practiced to perfection. He could’ve been narrating a corporate documentary. His charm was disarming, he was polite, polished, and professional. With that smile, I almost forgot he was just Lucas’ secretary. At one point, he slowed beside the research wing, his hands clasped neatly behind him. “Bristo’s R&D division is where a third of our innovation originates. Patents, product

  • The Heiress Returns: Reclaiming My Legacy   Chapter 46: The First Day Of Internship

Chapter 46: The First Day Of Internship**Lucas’ POV**I met Hannah’s eyes deliberately, holding them longer than necessary. There was defiance in them, but also something unguarded, something she hadn’t had time to hide. When I addressed her lateness, her lips parted, like she wanted to argue, to throw the blame back in my face. For a second, I wanted the fight, the sharp words, the heat of her anger. But she didn’t give me that.Instead, she swallowed it down, pressing her lips together until they trembled, and muttered a strained, “I… understand.”The fact that she came late in the first place irritated me more than I cared to admit. What was she trying to do? Prove Grandfather right? Hand Lily the crown on a silver platter while she stumbled behind, scattered and unprepared? Was she really that careless? Or did she hate me so much that she couldn’t even bother to try in a place that mattered this much?Did she hate me that much? Probably. The thought twisted in my chest, sharp and

Chapter 45: Late**Hannah’s POV**At exactly 7:45, I stepped out of my room, blazer pressed, looking good enough for the first day of working at Bristo Enterprise. I had checked the clock twice, even triple-checked my bag to make sure I hadn’t forgotten anything. I needed to arrive confident and composed.Except the moment I stepped outside, I knew something was wrong. The driveway was too quiet. The black BMW car that should’ve been waiting wasn’t there.Instead, the gardener was trimming the hedges around it. He looked up as I hurried over.“Mr. Gabriel?” I asked quickly. “Where is the car? He was supposed to take me and Lily to Bristo Enterprise.”The gardener thought about my question for a while, his shears pausing mid-air. “Oh, Miss Hannah… they left already. Around 7:30.”My jaw dropped. “Seven-thirty?!” I shook my head furiously. “No….it’s eight. Eight o’clock sharp. That’s what Father instructed.”“Maybe you heard wrong?” he offered carefully, as if afraid to upset me.I let

Chapter 44: First Day Sabotage**Lily’s POV**The morning of the internship arrived, and of course, I already had a plan. There was no way I was going to let Hannah waltz into Bristo Enterprise looking capable, polished, and ready. No…she had to stumble, she had to trip, she had to prove to everyone exactly what I knew she was: incompetent.I was already waiting in the driveway, my blouse pressed crisp, my blazer fitted perfectly. The sleek black car gleamed in the early light, Mr. Gabriel standing dutifully beside it. Loyal Mr. Gabriel…always so careful with his words, always pretending not to notice when I bent the rules because of our relationship.“Mr. Gabriel,” I whispered as I leaned close, my lips brushing the edge of a smile. “We’re leaving at 7:30. Not a second later.”His brow furrowed, lines digging deeper across his forehead. “But… Madam instructed me to take both you and Miss Hannah at 8 o’clock sharp.”I tilted my head, feigning patience as though speaking to a child who

  • The Heiress Returns: Reclaiming My Legacy   Chapter 43: Papa

Chapter 43: Papa**Hannah’s POV**I brushed my shoulder against Lily’s as I passed her in victory, a small, deliberate motion, but enough to let her know she’d lost this round. The corridor leading to the grand room stretched longer than usual, each step echoing like a countdown. My slippers whispered over the carpet, but my thoughts were anything but quiet.I replayed last night over and over in my head, Ray sneaking out of Lily’s room, her moans still echoing in my ears. It was vile, unnatural, undeserving. If there had ever been any doubt that Lily wasn’t worthy of this family’s name, that erased it all.I had been quiet too long, giving her space to strike me, ridicule me, shove me into corners. But now? My resolve was made. If she wanted war, I’d give her war. If she wanted to play the part of the perfect daughter, I’d play it better.I would reclaim what was mine.Ray might prove difficult to eliminate, he was my blood brother, the golden first son, the heir groomed since birth
