Lyriel stepped out of her car in front of her company’s building, the familiar glass structure towering above her. This place was once her pride, once her gift to the man she once trusted to protect it as much as she did.

Two security men stood near the entrance. In the past, they had barely acknowledged her, offering their respect only to Victor while disregarding her in her own company. But today, something felt different. They quickly stood straighter.

"Good morning, Miss," they said, giving her a small bow.

Lyriel didn’t smile. Her face stayed calm. She gave a small nod and walked past them. Her steps were steady, her posture strong and sure. This place belonged to her. It always had.

Inside, the scent of inked documents filled the lobby. The atmosphere buzzed quietly as staff went about their duties, but the moment they noticed her, a few paused, staring slightly. It had been a long time since Lyriel walked through these halls.

Then she saw him.

Victor.

He was just stepping out o

The clinking of cutlery echoed softly through the quiet dining room. Lyriel lifted another spoonful of rice to her mouth and glanced up. Jerry was still standing, just watching her."Join me, alright?" she said softly. "You’re my only family now."She motioned to the seat beside her, and Jerry sat down slowly, his movements hesitant, like he was afraid he might break something.Lyriel smiled, leaned over and added to his food, piling just enough before handing the plate to him."Come on," she urged with another smile. "Eat. I made it with too much care for you to insult me by staring."Jerry took the plate but didn’t lift his spoon. He kept watching her, like he didn’t recognize the woman seated next to him.And maybe that made sense. After all, for years, Lyriel had never shared a meal with him. Not once. Not since she started dating Victor. Back then, she barely looked at him,let alone acknowledged his existence. Now… she was smiling at him?She ate quietly, savoring each bite. But

Sophia’s fingers tightened around the letter. Her whole body went stiff and the room suddenly felt too small. She looked down at Ava, her daughter. Her own flesh and blood… and her biggest regret. But Ava didn’t look back. She just kept staring out the window silently."Ava…" Sophia said softly, her voice shaking. "I promise I’ll come back. I’ll explain everything, okay?"There was no answer, no nod, no glance. Just silence.Sophia wiped her tears roughly and grabbed her bag, but her hands trembled so badly that the strap slipped. She caught it, clutched it to her chest like it could hold her together. She opened her mouth to speak again… but no words came out.So she turned away quickly because she knew if she stayed one second longer, she wouldn’t be able to leave. And all she’d do was cry.She walked out of the room on unsteady legs, quietly closing the door behind her.And the moment she stepped into the hallway… she broke.Tears poured down her face faster, harder. She leaned aga

Sophia slowly turned around and looked at Ava, who was still sitting quietly on the hospital bed.She quickly glanced at Sister May, who stood frozen by the door, her mouth slightly open as she looked back and forth between them."Ava," Sophia said, her voice shaky and barely above a whisper.Ava turned her head slightly, meeting Sophia’s eyes with a calmness that didn’t seem like it belonged to a five-year-old."Sister May," Ava said softly. "Can you give us a few minutes?"May hesitated for a moment, her gaze drifting from Ava to Sophia. But then, slowly, she nodded "Alright," she said quietly, then stepped out and gently closed the door behind her.Sophia walked over in silence and sat beside Ava carefully, like she was afraid to scare her off. She reached out to hold her hand, but stopped halfway."W-what did you just call me?" she asked, trying to smile, though her voice was weak.Ava didn’t look at her. She stared at her lap and spoke quietly."Are you really not my mom?" she a

After a while, Lyriel pushed herself off the bed, the file still lying open beside her, reminding her of the storm she was about to unleash. She stood quietly for a moment, then reached behind her and began unzipping the wedding dress. The sound echoed in the room. She stepped out of the fabric slowly, letting it fall to the floor like the burden it had always been.Barefoot, she walked into the bathroom. She turned on the shower and stepped under the warm stream, letting it wash over her, slowly and steadily. Her hands moved over her skin, gently scrubbing away the hours, the chaos, and the dirt of a broken wedding. But as her hands reached her thigh, her mind slipped. It drifted to him. To Damien. The way his hands had explored her body earlier in that hotel room. The heat of his breath on her skin. His lips. Her breath hitched, and she bit her bottom lip.“That jerk…” she muttered under her breath. “How dare he put me in that situation? How could he do that when he has a fiancée?”

Damien glanced at Lyriel’s door one last time before slipping a hand into his pocket and pulling out his phone. His eyes hovered over the screen, as if he was thinking… or maybe hesitating. Then, with a quiet sigh, he typed:“See you whenever you need me.”He stared at the screen for a moment, then hit send and tucked the phone back in his pocket. His eyes remained on her door for a moment longer, as though trying to see through it, trying to read the feelings she refused to show. Then he turned slowly."Michael” he called, his tone steady. The man stepped out from near the car where he had been quietly waiting. “Yes, sir.”Damien curled his fingers slightly, motioning him to come closer.Michael obeyed, leaning in just enough for Damien to speak low. Damien whispered something quietly, and Michael nodded immediately, his expression professional."Yes, sir. I’ll see to it," he said, straightening back.He gave a small respectful bow, then circled around to the driver’s seat.Damien o

Damien sat quietly in the backseat, one hand resting against the window as he stared out. His phone rang again, catching his attention. He glanced at the screen, noticing it was him again. That same number. Gilbert. He sighed.Without hesitation, he declined the call."You didn’t even check what it’s about," Lyriel said quietly beside him.Damien smirked without turning. "He should know I’m not in the mood to talk."Lyriel raised a brow at him but said nothing. Still, the phone wouldn’t stop ringing. Finally, Damien shut his eyes, took a sharp breath, and answered.“I thought you were supposed to be Mr. Cruz’s smartest son,” he said, voice low and cold. “So why are you too stupid to realize I don’t want to talk to you?”"Don't be dramatic. I knew you'd pick up eventually."“I could end this call right now,” Damien warned.Lyriel turned to look at him, her gaze lingering. That voice... it stirred something in her memory. In her past life, she’d heard whispers about Damien’s stepmother
