The sun had already set by the time Lyriel drove back home.

After leaving the orphanage, she didn’t go straight there. Instead, she took a short trip to a quiet hill, one she used to visit when she felt most alone. It was a peaceful place where the wind seemed to listen and the sky kept her secrets.

She sat there for a while, alone with her thoughts.

She hadn’t cried, not the way she wanted to. But the sadness was still there. She had closed her eyes, taken deep breaths, as if she could hold back the storm inside her just by staying still.

That question… ‘Who are you?’

It still echoed in her mind as she unlocked the door to her mansion and stepped inside. The lights welcomed her home. Everything was clean, calm, untouched.

She walked in slowly, took off her shoes, and headed straight to her room. She removed the pins from her hair, changed out of her clothes, showered and put on something more comfortable.

It was only a few minutes after 6 p.m. The event was still two hours away.

Outside the club, the air was cool and calm—a big change from the noisy mess they’d just walked out of.Damien pulled Lyriel’s phone from his pocket and gave it to her. “Your phone," he said. She took it slowly. "Thanks."He nodded and turned toward his car. "I’ll head out… unless you’re too drunk to drive?"Lyriel raised a brow. "I didn’t even drink.""Exactly." He smirked. "So?"He opened his car door, about to get in."Wait," Lyriel called out, making him stop."I think I suddenly feel dizzy to drive," she added, avoiding his gaze.A low chuckle rumbled from Damien’s throat. "Alright."Without another word, he moved to the passenger’s seat and opened the door for her. Just as Lyriel took a step toward it, feigning dizziness..."Lyriel!"She froze, recognizing Victor’s voice. A second later, his hand grabbed her arm, pulling her back slightly.Damien didn’t interfere. He simply leaned against his car, watching quietly.Lyriel turned to Victor, eyes cold. "You can wait for me," she t

The group shuffled around the table, the bottle spinning in the center as music thumped faintly in the background.Lyriel’s phone buzzed on her lap. She glanced down discreetly, eyes narrowing when she saw Damien’s name light up the screen."How was it? Shocked to see your shithead fiancé kissing your best friend?"A quiet chuckle slipped from her lips, so soft no one else heard it.Victor noticed, though. He was still watching her and that small smile made him shift uneasily in his seat.Another message popped up."You look tired… but still beautiful."She didn’t reply. Instead, she locked her phone and placed it gently on the table. Her gaze swept the group lazily then roamed across the room.Jane tilted her head. "Are you looking for someone?" she asked with a smirk.Lyriel didn’t bother replying. But her eyes kept scanning… until they finally stopped.Damien.He was at the end of the club, standing near the back with one hand in his pocket, wearing black pants and a white shirt wi

Lyriel walked into the office building, her face calm. She half expected Victor to be waiting for her in her office, maybe to apologize. But the room was empty. She let out a quiet sigh of relief. Good. One less problem to deal with, at least for now.Dropping her handbag on the couch, she made her way to her desk and sat down. She turned on her computer and stared at the screen for a moment, her fingers tapping the desk lightly. It was time to really get back to work.Until now, she had allowed Victor to take the lead on most of the company operations. She had watched from behind, letting him play the role of the trusted man by her side. That was over now.She picked up her phone and scrolled through her contacts until she found the name she was looking for..."Victor’s Assistant."She placed the call.It rang only once before the young woman answered."Yes, ma’am?""Come to my office," Lyriel said. "Right now.""Yes, ma’am!"Minutes later, the assistant came rushing into the room, sl

Victor moved quickly, grabbing Sophia before her fingers could touch the door handle. He wrapped his arms around her from behind, holding her tightly, desperately.“Don’t go,” he whispered, pressing a soft kiss to the side of her neck. “I’m sorry… if all I’ve ever been is a burden. To you… and to our little girl.”Sophia trembled slightly, her voice low and pained. “Do you even know Ava is sick? And someone out there knows what happened between us. They’ve been threatening to tell Lyriel… but for some reason, they haven’t yet.”Victor froze. He spun her around, panic rising in his eyes."What?" he asked sharply.“That’s why you need to win Lyriel over,” she said, tears glistening in her eyes. “Give her everything she wants, so we can get everything from her.”“Sophia…” he murmured, pulling her into an even tighter hug.“I even asked her for money,” Sophia confessed, her voice breaking. “She made me sign a contract. It wasn’t like her.”“I know Lyriel,” Victor said, rubbing her back ge

“If not for Ava, I wouldn’t be doing this… You bitch,” Sophia cursed silently, her fake smile stretching so wide her jaw began to ache. But she kept it up, pretending everything was fine.Lyriel gave her the same kind of smile—tight, hollow, and sweet on the outside. “Well, since we’re done here,” Sophia said, clearing her throat, “I’ll be going now.” She handed the documents back to Lyriel, who neatly placed them where she’d gotten them earlier.“I’ll walk you out,” Lyriel offered.Sophia quickly shook her head, almost too fast it was a miracle her neck didn’t snap. “Oh no, it’s fine. You don’t need to.”“Why?” Lyriel asked, tilting her head with a playful pout. “Are you mad at me or something?”Sophia forced a short laugh, rubbing the back of her neck like a shy child. "Of course not.""Good," Lyriel said softly, her smile returning. "Because it’s still you and me forever, right?"Sophia nodded tightly, pretending the words didn’t irritate her. Whoever told Lyriel they were friends
