"Again!"

Five years later. Selena swung the blade harder. This time, she struck through the simulation drone with swift, brutal precision. Sweat dripped down her temples, but her eyes were still cold, sharp, and did not waver.

"She’s improved!" a voice said behind the glass.

Martin stood watching her. His pride was well-hidden behind that signature cold mask, but even he couldn’t deny it. Selena was no longer the weeping girl in a bloodstained dress. She was Serena Victoria Serpentine now. In mind, body, and spirit.

After training in languages, global markets, and psychological warfare, Serena had risen faster than anyone had predicted. She ran Serpentine Holdings’ three subsidiaries by twenty-seven. Although still a shadow leader, she is ruthless in boardrooms and untouchable in negotiations.

"Mommy!"

The sound of the triplets calling for their mother filled the air. The servants quickly cleared away all the tools and equipment. Six tiny feet ran nimbly across the room, bringing a warm smile to Serena’s lips.

Caelen Alvaro, Caelric Alvaro, and Caelia Alvara. They are The Triplets Cael!

In truth, the name Velmond was still part of their full name. Like their gray eyes, which are as vivid as William's. But Serena had chosen to hide it, like their father who easily threw her out.

"We..."

"Are..."

"Home!"

Serena laughed and looked at her three children, who spoke in turns. She removed her gloves and knelt to welcome her three little worlds into her arms with a warm embrace.

They were the only reason she had made it this far. To her, they were a new kind of home. Her safest haven, and the brightest light in her still-dark life because until now she is still trying hard in her hiding place to get a decent and safe life.

"Mommy misses you so much! How was school today?" Serena took turns kissing her children's chubby cheeks.

"We miss you too, Mommy! Today we drew our family!"

"Oh, really?" she smiled again, seeing the excitement in their eyes. "Can Mommy see your drawings?"

"Yes, Mommy. But..."

"But what?" Serena turned to look at her daughter’s face, Caelia.

"Someone made fun of Caelia’s drawing, Mommy. They said Caelia should’ve drawn our dad, not Graddy with white hair!"

"Ekhmm! Should I dye my hair?"

Caelen and Caelric's explanation was clear enough to be heard by the white-haired man they were talking about. Martin approached. Serena lowered her gaze slightly before straightening up again.

"Graddy!"

The triplets immediately hugged their grandfather. They laughed as their grandfather mischievously tickled their bellies. But before they could continue joking around, the elderly man’s trusted assistant suddenly approached with an expression marked by urgency.

"What?" Martin’s tone, which had just softened while speaking to his three grandchildren, now turned cold and firm again.

"I’m sorry, sir. There’s something you need to see."

The assistant immediately showed him a breaking news article. For a moment, Martin was silent. He even had to clear his throat when he realized the triplets were watching him with curiosity.

"You’d better go to your rooms now. There's something important I need to discuss with your mother."

"Okay, Graddy!"

Martin's voice always carried authority, but somehow still made the children around him feel comfortable. Maybe it's because of the blood relationship? Serena did not know. Even today, she still can't believe she has a Serpentine father.

"Bye! Don't be sad! Mommy will hear your stories again later!" Once again, a warm smile spread across Serena's face. But that smile vanished when she looked at the article now being handed to her.

Velmond Corporation Declares Bankruptcy Amidst Scandal and Leadership Collapse.

Seeing her ex-husband's name, a glimpse of her bleak past crashed into her memory. Her fingers curled into fists. Her tongue froze for a moment before she finally took a small breath.

"I want to go back!"

In a downtown penthouse, William stood near the window. He watched the rain pour over the city lights like tears he refused to shed. The view brought back memories of what happened five years ago. His hands clenched tightly.

"Another investor pulled out today, sir," his assistant mumbled behind him. "That’s the third this week."

William turned around, his gaze still sharp. His jaw visibly tightened, even though he tried to hold it back. "Let them be. The weak don’t deserve to be part of us!"

His assistant nodded and took away several documents. They were replaced with new ones, something that made William narrow his gray eyes when he noticed a name that was all too familiar to him.

Serpentine Holdings x Velmond Construction — Confidential Negotiation Request

The name stopped him cold. His expression darkened. He turned to the desk, picking up the folder laid out in front of him.

"Serpentine?" His voice was sharp and bitter. "Are they mocking me now?!"

"It came through official channels, sir." The assistant flinched but stood firm. "No hidden agenda that we could trace."

William’s jaw clenched again. His eyes burned with old fury. "That name was the reason my mother died. They’re the ones who helped her! Her allies, her co-conspirators! I should burn their entire legacy down for what they took from me!"

"With all due respect, sir," the assistant said carefully. "There was never any evidence. Nothing concrete links Mrs. Selena and Serpentine to the death of your mother. The case went cold."

"So you think she was innocent?" William’s gaze turned sharp.

"I'm saying maybe there were things we missed. Emotion clouds judgment, Mr. Velmond. You were grieving. Everyone was."

William's fingers curled against the edge of the desk. His search over the years has been unsuccessful, especially after the news of Selena's death.

"Why now?" he muttered with the whitened knuckles of his hands. "Why reach out after all these years?"

"They didn’t reach out to us directly, sir," the assistant explained. "The request came from their heiress. A woman. She’s been running most of their overseas operations for the past three years. Quietly built two new tech divisions. She’s impressive. And her name is Serena."

"Caelen! Caelric! Caelia!"Serena rushed into the house the moment she stepped out of the car. She moved in a frantic hurry, searching for her three children. Her breath came fast and uneven, her heart pounding wildly."They’re near the back garden, ma’am," one of the maids said, immediately sending Serena in that direction.Serena looked left and right, her anxiety growing with every step. She was terrified that something terrible had happened to her children, especially when she remembered the package containing three jackets in the exact same colors as the ones they were wearing today."Caelen! Caelric! Caelia!""Mommy!""Oh, Thank goodness!"Caelen and Caelia, who had been about to head to their room, immediately ran toward their mother when they saw her. Their small feet hurried to Serena, who looked utterly panicked, before they wrapped their arms around her at the same time and clung to her affectionately."Where’s Caelric, sweethearts? Why is it just the two of you?" Serena as

"Oh God..."Serena rubbed her head as a sudden wave of dizziness hit her. William had left her office a few minutes ago, but his words were still echoing in her mind. Even though he had corrected himself in the end by saying Selena’s name, she still couldn’t stop thinking about it."So back then... His mother deliberately saved me?" Serena lowered her head, rubbing her face over and over again. She hated feeling this way. She felt guilty, and stupid, for only finding out the truth now.So Mirelle Velmond had sacrificed herself to protect her and the triplets who were still in her womb at the time?Serena felt suffocated just thinking about it. She never would have expected it, especially since it was William’s mother who had invited her to meet at that park in the first place.Could it be that Mirelle Velmond had deliberately asked her to go there because she already knew about the assassination plot targeting her?Serena pressed her temples again. That possibility made it even harder

"Are you serious? You’re sure you didn’t see it wrong?"William’s words directly contradicted everything Serena had believed all this time. She lifted her head again, meeting the man’s gaze, then finally lowered it when he handed her an old photograph, its edges visibly worn and damaged."At first, I thought the same thing," William said while staring at the photo now in Serena’s hands. "I thought it might just be a business tactic, but... that photo changed my assumptions."Serena narrowed her eyes, trying to recognize the woman standing between her biological father and William’s grandfather. At first, she thought it was her mother, but it wasn’t. The woman’s gaze and the curve of her smile were very different, even though her height was almost the same as her mother’s."Who is this woman?" Serena asked, looking back at William. "She seems very close to your grandfather and my father.""That’s what I still don’t know," William replied, his eyes returning to the photo. "I accidentall

"What? Why are you only telling me this now?!"Serena immediately straightened her back when she heard the words of one of her father’s most trusted men that afternoon. She had just begun to feel a little calmer as, one by one, the people who had destroyed her life and William’s were finally being exposed. But now, she was confronted with shocking news she had never expected."I’m sorry, Miss," Martin said again, lowering his head. "I was only carrying out your father’s orders. He told me to inform you if his condition was still unstable after five days.""Just tell me the name of the hospital where he is," Serena cut in quickly, unwilling to waste any more time. "I’ll talk to him myself. I want to see his condition with my own eyes. And I want to ask him what happened to him before, what made him end up like this.""I’m sorry, Miss."Serena frowned when her father’s trusted subordinate only repeated his apology and said nothing more. Serena couldn’t bring herself to say everything yet, fear still tangled tightly around all the things she worried about. She looked at William, whispering an apology only in her heart. As if answering it, William nodded, then gently rested his forehead against hers.Serena gasped, completely unprepared for the movement. Yet once again, she couldn’t step back or push him away. Every part of her felt frozen, held in place by emotions she had been desperately trying to bury deep inside her chest."Thank you," William whispered, his hand closing over hers, which was still cupping his face.Only then did Serena realize it. Her touch against William’s cheek slowly weakened, trembling so noticeably that William instinctively tightened his grip, grounding her before she could slip away.Serena’s hand lingered against William’s cheek longer than it should have. She felt the warmth of his skin beneath her fingers, felt the way his breath stuttered almost imperceptibly at the contact. "Did she really throw me out?"William glanced back, staring at the door that was now firmly shut between them. He drew in a slow breath, steadying himself, then cast a brief look around to make sure no one had witnessed Serena pushing him out of her office.Behind the glass window, Serena watched him leave. Only then did she release a quiet breath and sink back into her chair. She closed eyes for a moment, then reached for the tablet on her desk, forcing herself back into work."At least he’s gone," she whispered, though a strange, uncomfortable feeling still pressed against her chest.Numbers, charts, meeting notes, she clung to them desperately, letting them crowd her thoughts until there was barely any room left for William’s face, which refused to leave her mind."God! Is it already this late?"Serena frowned when she checked the time on her phone. She stood up at once. She should have gone home an hour ago, but she had been forced to replace her father in an internal meeting for
