~ Mira's POV ~
I tapped lightly on the marble coated glass, but no response. I narrowed my eyes, my hands trembling as I turned the door knob. It's unlocked? Maybe he left it unlocked since he knew I would be stopping by. I took a heavy strides into Alpha Rowan's office with a file which requested signing. I halted my steps to the scene before me, I had paid no attention to the sounds. The unmistakable moans that had reached my heightened ears at the doorstep. I refused to breathe for a minute, my fingers were numb and the files dropped on the floor. I should walk out, I should leave the file and go but I couldn't move, my legs were jelly and he might lash out at me for leaving too. I had to freaking watch. Knots swarmed in my stomach, the bile rising in my throat at the sight. Did he call me over to see this? I trembled taking shaky steps forward but my mate wouldn't even look over at my face, almost like my presence hadn't been noticed. “Alpha, I need this signed", I whispered, my voice barely audible for me to hear. It felt absurd, saying those words, holding out the file, while he was still buried inside her. My mate. The man I was bound to by the Goddess herself. And he didn’t even blink. I dug into my palms, my breath heavy as I tried to steady my breath, tears glistened in my eyes but it wouldn't break me. I have swore his betrayal won't get to me. “Leave it there… I am close”, Alpha Rowan grunted, tightening his grips on her hips. His eyes shutting tight as he makes a final thrust emptying his release into the Omega’s cunt. The brunette looked over at me panting, her lips curved into a smirk as she adjusted her dress. Recognition slammed into me, she was from the finance department and the bitch was having an office wreck with my husband, my mate. I balled my fists walking straight to Alpha Rowan's desk, slamming the document onto it. I rested my hands on the desk, my fingers digging into my palm beneath the table, the sting grounding while I pretended I was fine. Heaven knows I wasn't. I was trembling all over. My husband was whispering to the bitch's ear and she took a final look at me, tilting her head sideways laughing at whatever shit my husband had whispered to her ears, she nodded and scurried off while my mate smacked her ass, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. They made me a fucking audience, the scene where I had watched him fucking her rewinding in my head. Wild thoughts buzzed in my head, it could have been me. It could have been me he had bent beneath the table, but he has never casted a longing glance at me before. We have never seemed like a couple or fated mates with the bond ordained by the Moon Goddess, I have stopped wishing for his love. It only hurts this much when I expected more, I should have known better. But hope– it's a cruel thing that maybe they wouldn't let you down. I had kept hoping he would come around the fact we are fated mates and love me wholeheartedly as a loving husband and mate should do. It's quiet, heavy– He snapped his fingers onto my face, his gaze darkening. “What the hell is this? I had told you to change these terms, I am starting to think you are deaf and dumb”, Alpha Rowan lashed out at me, throwing the files at my feet and I flinched, his voice echoing in his large office. “I-I", I stuttered in a brittle voice, my head facing the ground. “Cat fucking got your tongue, I told you to change the terms, we aren't working on a tight budget proposal. We aren't short of finance, just what the heck is wrong with you. Can't you ever get a thing right in your life?"Alpha Rowan spat at me. “Get the fuck out of my face", his nose scrunched up as he sized me up. “And one more thing, I have told you severally to knock on my door, don't you get simple instructions instilled in your dumb-ass piece of brain. But you get to watch the show, at least you know I fuck better with other people”, he snarled, his eyebrows dipping and he waved a hand dismissively at my face. I swallowed hard, blinking back the tears that had formed in my eyelid. What have I ever done to deserve such cruel behaviour from my mate? It was closing time, I grabbed my bag entering my car, my knuckles pressed tightly on the steering wheel as I saw a glimpse of my mate's car parked at the entrance of the packhouse. He has never been home early. My heartbeat raced in my chest, I knew trouble was brewing. I tiptoed into the house, not ready to make my presence known. He could be here with one of his flings and claimed I was disturbing them. I turned the doorknob of my room, silently hoping the devil incarnate wouldn't know I am home. My bag crashed to the ground, my jaws parted. Not again. In my bedroom. I fought back the tears shutting my eyes tightly, at the slamming of skin and moans reaching my ears. I moved my legs out of the room, my knees going numb as I fell down to the cold floor, tears streaming down my cheeks. I don't want to do this anymore. I clutched my chest tightly, silent sobs racking through my body. I stumbled on my feet, heading to the kitchen to clear my head. I gulped down a bottle of water feeling lightheaded, tears streaming down my cheeks. The brunette darted past me, a lingering smirk evident on her lips, daring me to do something. I am in no power to do nothing? Watch my mate fuck another woman and the worst of it all, on my bed in my fucking bedroom. I had no idea how it had gotten to this? I clenched my fists, striding to my room. I walked in on him, grabbing his stuff. Alpha Rowan walked past me, his shoulder grazing mine. “Wait–” I uttered, blinking my eyelashes. " What's the meaning of this?,” I muttered under a low breath. “What?”He arched his brow, tilting his head sideways. “You have your bedroom, there are guestrooms. Why do you have to do this in my room? Why do you have to torment me every moment of my life,” I screamed, tears pouring out like a volcano eruption of emotions in me. “Why?,” I choked. “Because it's the closest room. You got your answer. Right?. Deal with the shit.” “I am meant to torment you, Mira", he growled, his voice echoing in my small bedroom. He's meant to torment me? What have I ever done to deserve this? All I ever wanted was a mate who truly loved and saw me for who I am. “Alpha, I have tried– I have fucking tried dealing with it every day of my miserable life–” “Walk away. Nobody tells you not to. I didn't sign up for this shit. When would you realise that–” Alpha Rowan said, his intense gaze so cold that it makes me shiver. “I want to make this work for us. We are fated–” “There's no freaking us”, He rushed at me, slamming me against the wall, I gasped for breath, my legs thrashing in the air struggling to get away. His amber golden eyes flickering to that of his wolf. He released his grip and I coughed out, holding my neck. “There's no us, the sooner you get to realise that. The better for you”, he stated, turning his back on me and walking away. If only… I had the nerves to walk away. I broke into loud sobs crawling, arching my back to the wall.~ Rowan’s POV ~I had a plan.It wasn’t a complicated plan, In fact, it was the same plan that had worked on Mira so many times during our marriage…. a combination of charm, vulnerability, and just enough remorse to make her feel like she was the one saving me.She had always loved saving me.That was the thing about Mira, the old Mira, she had loved feeling needed. Loved thinking that underneath all my coldness there was a man worth staying for. I had used that, shamelessly. Every time she had caught me with someone else, every time she had threatened to stop trying, I had turned it on. The softer voice, the almost-apology, the hand on her face and the look in my eyes that said you’re the only one who understands me and watched her fold like paper every single time. She would fold again, I’m so sure. She was still Mira underneath all of this charade. She still had the mate bond in her veins whether she acknowledged it or not. And she had loved me, moon goddess, she had loved me with
~ Mira’s POV ~I had not slept after the rose, I sat on the edge of my bed for forty minutes staring at it like it was going to say something to me, then swept it off the nightstand, stuffed the card in my bedside drawer, and spent the remaining hours until sunrise aggressively reviewing quarterly reports until my eyes burned.I was fine, completely fine. The fact that a warlock had breached the security of my penthouse which had three layers of supernatural warding, two human alarm systems, and a rotating guard rotation without triggering a single alert was a security concern and nothing else. The fact that he had been in my dream before that was a boundary violation. The fact that I could still feel the ghost of his thumb on my jaw was…..Irrelevant, completely irrelevant, damn it!!!I walked into WyrmTech at 7:43 AM, handed my coat to Zara without breaking stride, and had cleared four emails before I reached my desk.“Good morning,” Zara said carefully, falling into step beside me.
~ Ares’s POV ~She was dreaming again.I felt it the moment her consciousness slipped under, that specific pull, like a thread tugging at the center of my chest, drawing me toward her the way the tide had no choice but to follow the moon. It happens every night now. The moment Mira Wyrmblood closed her eyes, something in the universe decided I needed to know about it.I sat in the armchair by the window of my hotel suite, fingers steepled beneath my chin, the city lights of Philadelphia shining gold across the ceiling above me.I should not do this.I told myself that yesterday and the night before but my eyes closed before I could think about it and the dream space opened like a door I already had the key to.It was her office but softer, the way dreams always softened reality at the edges. The floor-to-ceiling windows showed a sky full of stars instead of city lights. The desk was gone, In its place, a vast open room, dimly lit, the air carrying the faint scent of cedarwood and som
~ Kaiden’s POV ~My wolf had lost his mind. That was the only explanation I had for why I Kaiden Wolfe, Lycan King, supreme Alpha of every pack on this continent was standing outside a coffee shop at seven in the morning holding two cups I hadn’t ordered for myself, waiting for a woman who didn’t know I existed. She knows you exist, my wolf corrected smugly. She just doesn’t care.“That’s worse,” I muttered aloud. The barista behind the counter gave me a look. I ignored her.I had waited twelve years for my mate. Twelve years of sitting through pack ceremonies watching bonded pairs and feeling nothing but the specific, hollow ache of absence. Twelve years of my council suggesting I choose a suitable she-wolf and produce heirs, and twelve years of telling them to mind their business. The Moon Goddess had a plan, I had told them. I had believed that. And then she had put my mate in the same room as a bloodsucking ancient vampire and a warlock with cheekbones sharper than his own daggers
~ Killian’s POV ~In eight hundred and forty-three years of living, I had never been told no.Not by kings, not by queens, nor by warlords who had built their thrones on the bones of their enemies. Not by women who had sworn they would never look at me twice and then spent the rest of their evenings unable to look away.I was Killian Voss. Ancient and Untouchable. The supernatural being that other supernatural beings crossed entire continents to avoid antagonizing. And Mira Wyrmblood had looked me dead in the eyes, said no, and walked away.Three times.I sat in the back of my car as my driver moved through the Philadelphia streets, my elbow propped against the window, two fingers pressed to my lips, thinking about it with so much seriousness. She had walked away from me three times. The gala, the corridor outside her office when I had attempted to arrange a meeting. And yesterday, when I had sent her a bottle of 1787 Château Margaux, a wine older than most countries, with a note requ
~ Rowan’s POV ~I hadn’t slept in four days. The empty whiskey glass on my desk had a ring stain beneath it that my assistant had stopped bothering to wipe away. She’d stopped bothering with a lot of things lately. Half my staff had that same look now, the quiet, careful stillness of people watching a building burn and calculating how far they needed to stand to avoid the falling debris.I stared at the screen in front of me and the numbers still didn’t change. They never changed and that was the problem.NightCore Technologies, my company, my pack’s financial backbone, the empire I had built from the ground up with Mira’s quiet, invisible hands working behind every system, every firewall, every growth strategy she had never once been credited for was bleeding. No bleeding was too gentle a word.It was dying. “Alpha.” My head of IT, Marcus, stepped into the office for the third time that morning, his face carrying the particular shade of grey that men wore when they were about to del
~ Mira’s POV ~Three. Not one. Not two.**Three.**The number echoed inside my skull. I didn’t move, I just couldn’t. My heels felt soldered to the polished ballroom floor, and the champagne flute in my hand was the only thing keeping my fingers from trembling visibly.Their scents hit me first.Fro
Three years later… ~ Mira's POV ~The room stilled the moment I stepped in, eyes turning at me just like the way I wanted. The chandelier lights sparkled above like fallen stars, casting a glow over the polished floors and the exquisite diamond studded gowns and crisps tuxedos. I stepped out of
~ Mira's POV ~“You cheated?”Alpha Rowan growled, his gaze traveling down to the bed and at me.“I was taken advantage of. I had no idea, you asked me to collect a parcel but then–”," Stop the freaking lies, Mira. I sent you on no such errands”, he cut me off and I pursed my lips in a thin line.T
~ Mira's POV ~The scent of coffee lingered in the air as I moved around the kitchen, I looked over at the clock, the sun hadn't fully risen when I dragged myself off the bed, aching and swollen but I had no choice. I had to do the house chores, clean every part of the packhouse then head over to
