SELENE'S POV

By the time Ethan and I got home that afternoon, I was still furious with him.

What bothered me most was that Ethan had gotten himself suspended because of me.

The moment we stepped through the front door, I turned toward him.

"Do you realize how much trouble you're in? Our parents are going to kill you when they find out."

Ethan kicked off his shoes and glanced at me with an irritatingly calm expression as he headed toward the stairs.

"They'll get over it."

"They'll get over it? Ethan, you punched another student in front of the entire academy. You were suspended for two weeks, and you still don't seem to understand how serious this is."

"I understand perfectly."

"Then why are you acting like you don't care?"

"Because I don't."

I followed him up the stairs, still complaining about how reckless he had been, but the words died on my lips when he pushed open the door to his bedroom.

My eyes immediately landed on the bed.

Several suitcases were neatly arranged across it, along with a large black duffel bag that looked completely packed.

I stopped in the doorway.

"Are you travelling? Why do you have so many bags packed?"

Ethan glanced over his shoulder before stepping farther into the room.

"I was going to tell you. I only received the confirmation letter for the National Inter-Pack Hockey Championship and my Beta training yesterday, and I leave in two days."

"Two days?" I stared at him. "Why the rush?"

He sat on the edge of the bed and began checking one of the bags.

"The Northern Territories selected our team to represent the region at the international championship in Spain. I'm the assistant captain, so I'll be

representing Mooncrest."

My expression softened slightly.

I was proud of him, even if I was still annoyed.

"How long are you going to be there?"

Ethan hesitated.

"It's not just Spain."

I frowned.

"What do you mean?"

"The competition involves several stages, and there's the Beta leadership training I've been selected for, along with official pack assignments and diplomatic events. I'll be moving between territories throughout the season."

I walked closer to the bed, still trying to understand what he was telling me.

"Okay, but why are you avoiding my question? Ethan, how long will you actually be gone?"

He finally looked at me.

"Six months."

My eyes widened.

"Six months? That's half of senior year!"

"I know."

I stared at him, trying to process what he'd just said.

"How do you expect me to survive without you for six months? I might be dead before you even come back."

A small laugh escaped him as he stood and walked toward me, giving my shoulder a gentle squeeze.

"Don't worry. Everything is under control."

I frowned.

"What does that mean?"

Ethan gave me a small smile.

"Kade is going to take care of you."

I had been terrified at the thought of Ethan leaving me alone for six months, but suddenly, there was something that frightened me even more.

I was going to spend most of my senior year with Kade Voss.

Ethan had always been there, hovering over every part of my life like an overprotective shadow.

No boys, no parties, no dating, no sneaking out, no staying out late, no questionable friends, no alcohol, and absolutely no unnecessary trouble.

Sometimes, I wondered if having an older brother like Ethan had been both my greatest blessing and my biggest curse.

He had protected me from everything.

Unfortunately, that included having a life.

While other girls had gone to parties, fallen in love, kissed strangers, made mistakes, and collected embarrassing stories, I had spent most of my teenage years buried in books and following Ethan's rules.

And now that I was finally an adult, he was apparently planning to continue supervising me from wherever he happened to be.

That thought should have terrified me.

Instead, something dangerously close to excitement fluttered through my stomach.

Because Kade Voss was not just Ethan's best friend.

He was the future Alpha of Blood Moon Pack, the captain of Mooncrest's hockey team, and the biggest playboy on campus.

And, unfortunately for my sanity, the most ridiculously handsome man I had ever seen.

Girls practically followed him around campus.

Beautiful, slim girls who looked like they belonged beside him.

Not girls like me.

I was plus-sized.

It was the polite word people used when they didn't want to say fat.

Being plus-sized has taught me to be painfully conscious of myself.

My body was big and soft. My hips were wide, my breasts were full, and my backside was more pronounced than most of the girls around me.

I hated it.

I hated how my body seemed to command attention while I felt invisible inside it.

And most of all, I hated comparing myself to the girls Kade dated.

They were slim, confident, and effortlessly beautiful.

I couldn't even remember the last time I had looked into a mirror without finding something I wanted to change.

Yet somehow, despite all my insecurities, there was one thing I couldn't change.

I wanted Kade Voss..

I wanted him so badly that sometimes my own imagination embarrassed me.

I had never kissed anyone.

Never been in a serious relationship.

Never allowed myself to get close enough to anyone to risk being rejected.

Maybe Ethan leaving wasn't the disaster I had thought it was.

Maybe it was a blessing in disguise.

I had already created my senior-year bucket list, and there was no reason I couldn't finally start checking things off.

And, at the very bottom of the list, was the one thing I had been too embarrassed to say aloud.

Give my virginity to the man I wanted most.

Kade Voss.

I swallowed and forced myself to stop thinking about him.

Unfortunately, my imagination had other plans.

Because if I was going to spend six months with Kade Voss watching over me, perhaps I could finally find out whether the fantasy I had carried for years could become reality.

There was only one problem.

Kade still thought of me as Ethan's little sister.

And before this year was over, I intended to make him see me as something else.

Chapter 9Kade’s povI drove straight home while thinking back on the conversation I had with my dad earlier. “Who is the girl you were caught kissing?”I could remember rolling my eyes on the call. “Father, we don't need to talk about this.”But before I could land, his voice thundered through the speaker in anger.“I want you to come straight home. I don't want to have this discussion with you over the phone. I want you to look me in the eyes and tell me why you decided to go around and make a fool out of yourself.” “Father, we can talk about this after school. I'm still in school.”“Now, Kade,” he had growled, as I took the phone away from my ears before cutting the call. I could remember taking deep breaths, trying to figure out what answer I was going to give him because right now I had poked the bear. Now I was very close to the house, thinking of all the excuses I could give. This was going to end up being a huge fight, one I wasn't ready for but one I had to give. The mo

Chapter 8Selene’s povI got back into the school building and headed straight for class as Amelia blocked my way with two of her goons. Her aura flared, a sign that she was angry but trying hard to hide it.“Well, well, well,” she smiled a fake smile, “if it isn't Fatty girl right here.”I sighed, taking a step back. “Please, I don't want any trouble.”“Well, trouble found you.” She looked at me from head to toe, then shoved me back with a firm finger which I was sure would leave a bruise. “What's this I hear and see about you and Kade being together?” I had nothing to say as I stared at her blankly. “What? Can't talk now? Where was all that aura when he was kissing you? Or should I say you were forcing a kiss on him?”“I didn’t force any kiss on anyone, he kissed me.”She scoffed, “oh please. Kade would never look at you like anything but a fat ugly thing that needs to be taught her place.”“I’m not going to stand here and listen to you insult me.”I tried walking past her but he

Kade’s povI laughed while pointing to the little screen on my dashboard, which was showing a funny movie. I then took a huge bite of my shawarma before turning to look at Selene, who wasn't even eating her food. Her wrap was still there in her lap while she fiddled with her fingers. “What's going on?” I asked, “You're not eating.”She looked at me. Her eyes filled with sadness before she gave me a smile, but I knew the smile was fake. “I'm not hungry.”I rolled my eyes. “Is it because of what they said in class?”She shrugged. “Not really. I just… I'm not hungry.”I scoffed. “You know I can tell when people are lying, right? I've had that all my life. Had people lying to me, left, right, center, because I am the alpha son. I'm used to that kind of life, and I don't want that to happen between us.”She muttered something under her breath, which I heard but I pretended like I didn't hear it. “I didn’t get that.”She looked at me squarely. A hardened look in her eyes. “Funny how yo

Selene’s povThroughout my day in class, I didn't pay attention to anything the teacher said. I kept on thinking about what Kade had told me, the way he had wanted me to be his girlfriend. I kept wondering how it would feel like being his fake girlfriend. Yes, it would be fake, but what if something was to happen between us? After all, we had to make it look real. What if I made a move that would be unethical? What if I pushed it a bit too far to achieve my goal of having him take my virginity? How would that make him feel? How would that make me feel? Of course, I knew what Kade's type was. I wasn't stupid. His type was slim, hot girls. And as usual, I was plus-sized. That little bit bothered me. No matter how many times I tried to go to the gym to lose some weight, I would always come back crying because I would see girls from my class being there and taking pictures of me. I hated that. I couldn't be myself. I couldn't eat what I wanted in the cafeteria without people pointin

SELENE'S POVI should have known something was wrong when Kade Voss walked toward me after classes. He had never walked toward me like that before.Usually, whenever Kade saw me at school, he would give me a casual smile, maybe ruffle my hair if Ethan was standing nearby, and ask how my classes were going before turning his attention back to his teammates or whichever beautiful girl happened to be hanging around him that day.Today was different. He was alone, and he was walking directly toward me.I immediately looked around, wondering if perhaps there was someone standing behind me that I had somehow failed to notice. There wasn't.My heart began beating faster.Kade stopped in front of me and studied my face for a moment."Can I talk to you?"I tightened my grip around the books against my chest."About what?""It's private."That did absolutely nothing to calm my nerves.I glanced at the students passing through the hallway before reluctantly following him toward the quieter end.

KADE'S POVI nearly spat my drink across the table."What?"Marcus burst out laughing. "You heard him."I wiped my mouth and stared at both of them as though they had collectively lost their minds."Are you two insane? Selene is Ethan's sister.""Yes, we know.""She's my best friend's sister.""We know that too."I shook my head. "Absolutely not. Ethan would kill me."Dylan shrugged. "Ethan is in Spain.""That doesn't change anything.""It changes everything," Marcus argued. "He's going to be gone for months. You need to get rid of Aurora before the engagement becomes official, and Selene is the only girl you know who isn't constantly throwing herself at you."I leaned back in my chair and stared at them. They were actually serious. There was another reason Selene was different, and it had nothing to do with her being available. For more than fifteen years, Ethan and I had been inseparable. His family was practically my second family, and Selene had always been part of that picture. I
