"This is it," Xavion spreads his arms out to show the massive house hidden on an unregistered road behind the mountains. It's been a few days since the rogue appeared and between me and Xavion, we found a middle ground as to when to leave. I wake up to the sun's rays burning my face through the curtains. As I gain consciousness, clattering and movement can be heard and as the waft of food hits my nostrils, I realise what's happening. Breakfast. I groan into the pillow before throwing the duvet from my body. My body rolls itself out of bed and I wobble a few steps toward the bathroom before gaining enough control over my body to freshen up. A knock on the door makes me slightly jump as I finish pulling a shirt over my head. "Heard you're awake," Xavion's voice states from the other side of the door. "Ah!" I exclaim in surprise as a werewolf toddler jumps onto my back while I'm sitting on the floor. "Jackson, wait!" I panic as he climbs over my shoulder and prepares himself to launch onto my lap. I try to gently catch him as he continues moving over my shoulder. We both plummet to the carpeted floor and I make sure Jackson falls onto me instead of the floor. I sigh in relief when I look down and notice Jackson laying on my stomach while giggling. "Jackson!" Maggie scolds the young boy from across the room, making him jump up while still in my embrace. He runs off without a thought and I'm left on the floor with my wind knocked out of me. Another face pops up above me, her long hair tickling my face. The 6-year-old-looking girl offers me a smile and I try to genuinely smile back, but I'm sure the pain is preventing me from doing so. I feel someone gently touching my hand, making me look down at my hand and notice the little girl with the teddy bear trying to hold my hand. She must have noticed my nerves growing more haywire by the second. "Thank you," I whisper with a soft smile, crouching down to reach her eye level and interlocking our hands. She offers me her own smile, letting her blonde hair fall over her face as she shyly glances down. Tasia exclaims something under her breath and before I can even look up she rushes to the front door while yelling over her shoulder, "I'll be right back!" Her words caught me off guard and before I could even process what happened, she was already out of sight. "Can we talk now?" I ask Xavion, the wooden beams on the ceiling filling me with immense boredom. "Mhm," he nods but doesn't move from his position by my side. "Xavion," I warn him with a stronger tone, hoping it gets through to him. It does. "I know, I know. I'm sorry," he almost jumps up at the sudden urge to comfort me, my voice having more of an effect on him than I thought. He caresses my cheeks with his large hands and the roughness of his hands with the gentleness of his touch throws me off guard for a moment but I regain my composure. I lean into his touch to let him know I'm not going to throw a fit and he seems to relax a bit at my calmness. "I understand you are protective of me, but you have to talk to me so I can understand you better. I can't feel your feelings, unlike you," I softly advise him, remembering I'm human in a pack full of werewolves. I don't let the reminder discourage me because I don't want Xavion to go through another moping session. "I was scared.

"ELIAH!" she winces at the sudden outburst of her colleague. She turns over in her bed and looks at the time, squinting. "It's 12:03 in the morning. What do you want?" Her voice is barely audible through the grogginess. "We have a lone wolf in the mountains. Male," Demetri informs her with a rather chirpy voice for speaking so early in the morning. The girl lets out a snore and accidentally chokes on air. "Hurry! He is aggressive and we can't get near him! He's HUGE! We need your help!" He rants and she wants to end the call, not processing what the situation is. Eliah feels her energy drain as she drifts back into sleep. "Eliah, wake up! If you don't want me to be eaten by a wolf, start moving your ass out of bed and towards the mountain!" She pulls the phone away from her ear but doesn't open her eyes as the light will blind her. The wolf starts full-on growling. "Eliah. What is happening?" Demetri asks me and I shoot him a confused look. "I just arrived. How am I supposed to know?" I look at the rest. He leaps. He leaps straight into me. The air escapes my lungs and I fall with the wolf on the metal platform. I groan as I duck away from the black wolf, but his massive body takes most of the space in the rather large boot. It's a metal box and is only one and a half by two meters long, big enough to keep a Brown bear and this wolf close in size, so not much space for me to move, let alone this wolf. The wolf plops down, crushing me with his weight. He snuggles a bit to get more comfortable. The pain long forgotten, he sniffs me, only moving his head. I shift under him to turn and face him. He starts panting and wagging his tail, his tail hitting the metal walls with a rhythm. I throw him a questioning look and didn't it expect when he suddenly starts licking my face. I squeal and giggle as he slobs me all over my face. "So that's what you were trying to do," I continue squealing after talking to him through a fit of giggles.
