"You too," Adams said before ending the call, his voice sounding drained and tired.

"Who was that?" Lara asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.

"My friend," Adams replied, his voice barely above a whisper, as he sat down heavily on the bed.

"A boy? Or a girl?" she asked, her voice light and playful, trying to cheer him up.

"What do you care?" Adams snapped, his words laced with frustration.
