Chapter 2

Auteur: Mandy Destra
Jenny remained unchanged from her previous life; she still eyed that bidding proposal.

"Didn't we agree that Edward would mentor you from now on? Why are you still in my office?"

Jenny jumped and stiffened at my voice. With trembling hands, she dropped the bidding proposal straight into the shredder.

"M-Ms. Strallen, I'm here to make it up to you by cleaning."

I looked around.

A painting by my grandfather hung on the wall. She had wiped it with alcohol. The entire painting was smudged. It was completely ruined.

The plant on my desk, worth thousands, had withered. The soil was still steaming. Inside the watering can was freshly boiled water.

Not to mention the neatly organized documents, now reduced to complete chaos.

Cleaning?

She was not there to clean. She was there to cause trouble.

I looked at the shredded documents, my voice turning icy, "Is destroying documents also your way of making up?"

Jenny flusteredly tried to avoid my gaze. "I saw that you have too many useless documents, so I tried to get rid of them for you."

I pointed to the tiny surveillance camera in the top right corner of my office.

"This is an important official document which you've just destroyed. Do you think you can afford the consequences? I installed the surveillance camera yesterday, just to prevent important documents from getting lost."

Jenny visibly broke out in cold sweat, but her eyes flashed a little maliciously. Then, she stormed off crying.

"Ms. Strallen, you can hit me and yell at me, but you can't insult me like this! No one else in the entire company except me had entered your office. You clearly installed the surveillance camera just to keep an eye on me!"

I ignored her.

Luckily, I remembered that she would do such a thing, so I had locked the real bidding proposal in the safe.

If she had destroyed them, the consequences would be unimaginable.

This incident also indirectly proved that Jenny was not an idiot. She was just finding an opportunity to cause trouble.

When Edward heard her complaints, he came looking for me a few times. He demanded that I take down the surveillance camera and apologize to Jenny.

I told him right to his face that as long as she stayed out of my office, there would be no suspicion at all.

After that incident, I focused entirely on the bidding project and ignored those two. Since Jenny could not cause me any trouble, she started targeting other colleagues.

Every time I returned to the office, the entire workspace was filled with resentment.

She played games on someone's computer and accidentally deleted half a month’s worth of overnight design work.

She tagged along on a business trip and gifted a client a cheap two-dollar hair clip.

She offended a client we had spent six months cultivating, ruining the deal entirely.

She burned documents in the restroom for fun, triggering the fire alarm system and drenching everyone in the building like a sudden downpour. Everyone fell ill with high fevers and had to be hospitalized.

Time and time again, Edward protected her, brushing everything off with, "She's still young."

The company was thrown into chaos because of her, yet no one dared to speak up.

I could not stand staying in that environment for even a second longer, so I applied to the board for an overseas assignment.

The approval came through quickly. I was already preparing to leave the country when I suddenly received a call from the police.

They said that my identity had been deregistered, and they wanted to confirm if I was actually dead.

My identity deregistered? That was equivalent to me being dead!

I immediately asked HR what was going on. They told me that Edward was the one dealing with my overseas trip.

Taking the information of my identity being deregistered, I entered Edward's office, huffing, "Care to explain to me what the hell is going on?"

Jenny was sitting on his lap, learning how to tie his tie. They were so close together; all that was missing was just a kiss.

Jenny pretended to be flustered. She explained, "Ms. Strallen, don't be mistaken. Mr. Cooper was just teaching me how to be a good assistant!"

When she saw the documents in my hand, she covered her mouth and screamed.

"Ah! I did this! I think I accidentally called the cancellation office instead of the visa office."

Deregistering a person required filling out forms in person. Not one, but five in total.

I did not believe for a second that she filled out five forms without noticing anything strange.

I slammed the documents onto the desk, my voice hoarse with rage.

"Do you have any idea what it means for me to be deregistered? Every project and document signed under my name in the past six months will be rendered invalid! That's a loss of at least hundreds of millions. Will you take responsibility for that?!

"It's not just money! It's also the company's reputation and mine! Come with me right now and prove this cancellation was a procedural error!"

"Now that you've resigned, we'll no longer tolerate the dirty tricks you pulled before! Do you even treat your clients as people?"The clients were baffled, but they ignored Edward and Jenny. Instead, they asked me, "Ms. Strallen, what is going on? This is a big day for us! I'll get security!"I smiled and waved dismissively."Oh, don't let them spoil our fun, everyone."Everyone started talking about the new project, pretending that Edward and Jenny did not exist.Infuriated, Edward yelled at each client by name and insisted that they look at the project quotations.I stopped him, saying indifferently, "Why are you just making things difficult for yourself? No one wants to deal with you. I know you're trying to use this to steal my clients, but Edward, you got one thing wrong."The price of the contract was indeed two points higher, but the profit the company earned? That was all covered by my personal commission. Richard knows this. How do you think I maintain relationships wi

Hearing Edward's bellowing on the phone, I hung up on him.I sneered as I looked at the computer screen of the photos of Jenny's hotel room. She was not as dumb as I thought after all. She realized that I had made my move.I still could not understand how Edward could be so utterly fooled by her act of fragility, trusting her delicate exterior so blindly. To stand up for Jenny, he even used his influence at my former company to sabotage my new business. He tried stealing clients away from me, as well as offering triple salaries to steal my employees.Luckily, none of my employees swayed; they informed me of his every move instead. In the past, Edward and Jenny had always struck first, and I had to endure. This time, it was my turn to strike first.…Edward had one weakness: he was lazy. Even after our breakup, he did not change his passwords.I remembered his password on his cloud storage. I remembered he had a habit of backing up his photos on the cloud.I remember in my pre

As a few men came out from the fire exit, I quickly hid to the side. Then, I heard Jenny making a phone call."Yes, I've handed out all her cards. These men are big shots; she won't dare to offend them. Don't worry! In less than two days, the entire industry will be talking about how she sells her body to clients. Let's see how her new company resumes operation after this!"I got it now. They were trying to ruin me with rumors like that!I was so furious that I nearly cackled.Returning to the hall, I got my assistant to find out Jenny's hotel room number. Anyone with an ulterior agenda at the gala would stay the night in the hotel.Sure enough, we found out Jenny's room number. My assistant said to me, "This woman has been all over entertainment headlines lately. Seems like someone's backing her as she's trying to enter the industry. Zoe, are you sure you want to go after her?"I raised my wine glass, my gaze icy. "I wouldn't have thought of even pestering her if she didn't st

That explained why Edward's parents did not even ask why the wedding was being called off. As it turned out, they had long planned how to deal with the matter. My father was furious. He wanted to charge up to Edward to question him, but I stopped him. I did not want him to get upset over this."Dad, don't worry. It's all in the past. I don't want anything to do with him."Nonetheless, Edward clearly had no sense of shame. He held Jenny's arm and walked over to me with glee in his eyes."My parents told me that you were here to call off the wedding. Not to be rude, Zoe, but at your age, who'd still want you after this? I was initially worried about coming up with an excuse, but you call it off yourself, saving me the trouble."Jenny snuggled up in Edward's arms. Her words only made things sound worse."Zoe, Mr. Cooper confessed to me after breaking up with you. We only got together after the break-up. I'm not a mistress, okay? So don't call me that. After all, the one who isn't lo

That mentorship agreement was a complete joke.I just did not expect that Edward would use it at such a time to get me to yield.Seizing the opportunity, Jenny handed the agreement to the officers, exclaiming, "Yes! She's my mentor! She'll take responsibility for any mistakes I make! See, the agreement has stated it loud and clear! Go talk to her! This has nothing to do with me!"The way she was desperately throwing me under the bus made me laugh. After reviewing the agreement, the officials turned to me for routine questioning. "The signature–is it yours? And it was signed during your employment?"Edward panicked when he noticed how I remained quiet. He immediately replied on my behalf, flustered, "She signed it! Take her with you for questioning!"I smiled and looked at him. "I haven't even answered. Why are you in such a hurry? Afraid they’ll notice the loopholes in the agreement?""Stop trying to twist the facts! What loopholes could there be?" he immediately retorted, but t

Edward immediately stood next to Jenny and pointed at me."Yes! I'm the current CEO of the company, and I can testify!"Zoe Strallen has been the one drafting the contracts, while Jenny and I have just been cleaning up after her mess! I never expected her to be so bold, disregarding the law and inflating the price by four times!"I froze on the spot and watched as Edward blatantly accused me of something I never did.Was this really the same man who once said that in this company, I would be his most capable right hand, his strongest support? He knew what would happen if I were taken in for investigation; my reputation would be destroyed. I would be subjected to five years of regular scrutiny.Even the company itself would suffer the consequences. Most companies, when faced with someone like that, would rather pay compensation and fire them outright. For Jenny… He was willing to throw away my entire future. The officer looked at the information on the contract. It was indeed my
