Chapter 12

Emerald could not sleep that night no matter how she tossed and turned. She could never forget that incident this morning. How her mother looks so scared seeing the woman, Emerald can tell that she knows her. The name she mentioned, there is a possibility that he is her father.

That woman has the answer to all her questions. She might can lead her to find his father. Emerald made up her mind, she will go back to that place and talked to that woman. She needs to know her father so she could plan how to get back at him.

Suddenly, Emerald feels thirsty. So, she went outside her room to grab a glass of water in the kitchen. As she was passing by her mother’s room, she can hear soft sobs coming from the inside. Her fists curled into a ball as her heart tightened hearing her mother’s soft weeps.

She has been hearing her cry since she was a child and she can tell that she was suppressing it so she could not hear it. Her mother was trying so hard to look tough in front of her but she knows that deep inside she was weak, she is in so much pain and she was falling apart.

However, for her, she was fighting and Emerald took a silent oath to her mother that she will suffer no more. She will give her mother a good life, a luxurious life that she would not need to work. Apart of it all, she will seek justice for her. She will make sure that she will give back to that man all the pain that he puts her mother through.

The next morning, Emerald gets up early and headed for school. “Bye, Mom.”

“Bye honey, take care.” Her mother kissed her before Emerald heads out.

Her classes will be on 11:00 AM but she needs to go to school early so she could finish her project and she doesn’t have to worry about anything before she goes to that restaurant. Anyway, it opens on 9:00 AM so she still has two hours to finish her project.

"Good morning, Mrs. Lends.” Emerald greeted the librarian.

“Hey, Emi. You’re early.” The librarian greeted her.

“I need to finish a project before the deadline.”

“Keep it up, sweetheart. You are such a responsible student; I admire you a lot. I’ sure you will have a bright future.” She smiled as she handed her the book she asked.

“Thank you, Miss Lends.” Emerald said and signed the logbook Mrs. Lends handed her.

She finished what needs to be done at exactly 9:00 AM. Emerald hurriedly run outside when she bumped to a very hard thing that feels like a rock. When she looked, she saw that it was a muscular arm, the owner of that arm is tall so she needs to look up.

As Emerald tilted her head, she was greeted by a very handsome human being which she never expected she will see first thing in the morning. “Hi, Emerald. It’s so good to see you. I never expected that a beautiful sight will be the first thing that I will see in the university. Now, my day is complete.”

“I need to go, Tyler. See you around.” Emerald ignores his sweet words.

He was tongue tied as he was nothing left to do but watch the woman who looks like she was chased by a demon and was running for her life towards the gate. When Tyler got back to his senses, he smiled and shakes his head. ‘I have all the time in the world, Emerald. Just wait and see, you will fall in my arms sooner or later.’ Tyler uttered in his head.

Meanwhile, Emerald just got in the fast food. It was just nearby their university and it only took her five minutes to get there. She inhaled deeply before walking inside. She pretended to buy a burger and then asked the staff simply.

“Where is the middle-aged woman? She was a friend of my mom and they lost contact a long time ago. They bumped into each other yesterday but we are in a hurry so mom didn’t get her number.”

“I think you are talking about Aunty Linda; she is the only middle-aged woman who works here. As a matter of fact, she’s the older worker here.” The lady probed.

Emerald’s eyes sparkled with joy and excitement she then confirmed, “Yes, yes, that’s her. Can I talk to her please? Where is she?”

“I’m so sorry Miss but Aunty Linda no longer works here. It was her last day of work yesterday. She already reached the age limit of the requirement to work here.” The lady said which made Emerald’s world shattered.

“I see. Do you happen to know where she lives? You said her name is Linda. What’s her last name?” the only hope she has now is to find the woman’s home so Emerald could see her.

“You can ask our manager; she has the information of our employees but I’m not sure if that is allowed to be disclosed. Wait I’ll call her.” The lady then turned around.

“Thanks a lot.” Said Emerald.

She was their first customer that morning and the restaurant was not busy yet. There were only three customers at that moment. Not long after the lady left Emerald, now she came back with a young woman how was wearing a three-piece business suit. Her aura was intimidating and her noble appearance giving Emerald the impression that she was of a higher rank.

“Good morning, I am manager Lee. How can I help you Ma’am.” She smiled but it did not lessen her dominant looks.

“I would like to have Aunty Linda’s address or even her phone number if possible. It is just so important that I could talk to her.” Emerald pleaded.

“I can’t give you her address, that a violation of our employee’s safety and confidentiality. But I can give you her phone number.” The manager said.

Emerald nodded. “That should be fine.”

She handed her a small piece of paper. “Here you go.”

“Thank you so much.” She took the paper and the food she ordered and turned around.

Emerald immediately fished out her phone from her pocket and dialed the number written on the paper. However, the call just went to a voicemail. She was disappointed but at the end, Emerald left a message hoping that Aunty Linda will give her a call back.

Tyler paced back and forth across the polished hardwood floor of his home, the city lights glittering through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind him. One hand clutched his phone while the other raked through his hair with frustration. His jaw was tight, his chest rising and falling in slow, controlled breaths. But his eyes—dark, dangerous—burned with the heat of something he wasn’t used to: restraint. The phone rang again, for the third time. He waited until the final second before he answered.“Jason.”“Tyler,” came the sharp response. “You called. What’s going on?”“You know what’s going on.” Tyler’s voice was cold steel. “Why the hell are you warning Emerald about me?”A beat of silence. Then a low sigh. “Because I know you. Better than anyone. You don’t do relationships. You don’t do commitment. You chew women up and spit them out, and she’s—”“She’s not like the others,” Tyler cut in, voice rising. “She’s not a fling. You think I’d call you just to argue about someone I wasn’t s

CHAPTER 17The fluorescent lights of the university hallway buzzed, a monotonous hum that echoed Tyler's internal chaos. He’d rehearsed this moment a thousand times in his head, each version ending with a slightly less humiliating outcome than the last. He adjusted his tie, a nervous tic he’d picked up from his father (a man who, ironically, never seemed nervous about anything), and smoothed down his already perfectly combed hair.He was never like this before. He never got nervous because of a woman. He has always been a woman magnet wherever he goes and he doesn’t even have to ask them out. It was them who threw themselves at him. Women would always pull every trick they have on their sleeves just to catch his attention. But with Emerald, it’s different. She would barely throw a glance at him as if he is very disgusting to look at. Emerald, speaking of which, she was leaning against the lockers, a stack of books clutched to her chest, her brow furrowed in concentration as she flipp

That is the reason why she was called. The principal himself informed her about it. Her mother would be very happy with the news.“Hey, congratulations!” Jason was also delighted by the news though he expected it already.“Thanks, Jason.” Emerald smiled. “Let’s celebrate. Your treat this time.” He winked which made Emerald laugh. “Sure.” she replied which stunned Jason. Emerald was always frugal and never spend money if it is not necessary. She laughed at her best friend’s reaction. He knows her very well. She grabbed his hand and took him to the nearest ice c

That devil should burn to *lll. She would make sure that he would suffer ten folds than what her and her mother had been through in all those years. All she ever needed was a name, tag Clayton university and voila Emerald saw the male version of her. She looks exactly like him. Bitterness and anger dwelled inside her as she came up to a family picture of Gerald Clayton, together with his son and wife. She had no idea how to start her vengeance until she saw that happy family of three. An evil grin creeped in Emerald’s cherry lips as an idea came across her mind as if a bulb just lit up on the top of her head. She sneered as she stared at the young teena
