Chapter 15Now that Emerald got a name, she was very excited. Who would have thought that it was so easy to track down her devil of a father. No, he wasn’t even deserving to be called such. That devil should burn to *lll. She would make sure that he would suffer ten folds than what her and her mother had been through in all those years.
All she ever needed was a name, tag Clayton university and voila Emerald saw the male version of her. She looks exactly like him. Her jaw clenched as she saw the man on the screen wearing a suit and tie. There were several pictures of him and all of them were old pictures.
Bitterness and anger dwelled inside her as she came up to a family picture of Gerald Clayton, together with his son and wife. She had no idea how to start her vengeance until she saw that happy family of three.
An evil grin creeped in Emerald’s cherry lips as an idea came across her mind as if a bulb just lit up on the top of her head. She sneered as she stared at the young teenage boy who was standing behind Gerald and his mother formally seated on what more like a royal chair as if they were the king and queen of their kingdom, his right hand was on his mother’s shoulder and his left hand was on his father’s shoulder.
‘Look what we got here? Tyler Clayton, you were so eager to throw me on your bed when you were my half brother. How disgusting? You are just like your lustful father who only thinks using that thing dangling between his legs. I’m going to crush you into pieces. Hurting you means putting so much pain on your parents.’ Emerald thought as she stared at the teenage Tyler.
She continued her research and found out that Gerald’s wife had passed away right even before Tyler graduated from high school. It was disappointing that she could not lay her revenge on that shameless woman since she was six feet below the ground many years ago. Emerald’s breathing went far from normal while reading the beautiful so-called love story of the devil and his wife.
A match made in heaven, Emerald scoffed as she read the headline. The appropriate description of the two should be “cheater couple match made in hell”. How could these two manage to live such a lavish life knowing that someone was suffering? How could Gerald pose and do those interviews as if her mother was no carrying his child?
Did he really believe what his mother told him or they both planned it? There was never a Samuel in her mother’s life. When she was born into the world and ever since she became aware of her existence, it was only her and her mother. The two of them were like small ants in the really big world and people, even the poor ones like them, had the ability to step on them.
“What are you doing?” Jason’s voice interrupted her thoughts.
How does this man manage to appear out of nowhere? Emerald was currently in the kitchen and she exhaled sharply, relieved that her direction was facing him otherwise he would see the screen on her laptop if she sat opposite and he would be behind her.
“How did you get in?”she asked irritably.
“Wow, is that how you greet your best friend?” He acted as if he was so hurt as he sat and grabbed the apple, and did not not even bother to wash it. He just immediately devoured the apple.
“The apple wasn’t washed yet.” Emerald scolded him.
“No one died from eating unwashed apples but plenty did because of swallowing the seeds.”
Emerald rolled her eyes at him while simply closed the browser where she researched about Gerald Clayton. She then replaced it with her projects from school. Jason was grinning from ear to ear while staring at her.
“What are you up to? I thought you were going to spend time with your long lost friend.” Emerald intentionally brought up Tyler.
“Seriously? Are you jealous of Tyler? Don’t worry, I love to spend more time with you than with him. He is a bad influence.” Jason smirked.
“What do you think he would feel if he heard what you said?”
“Nah, he would never. As if he would know my whereabouts. I would never tell him especially if I am going to see you.You have no idea how he was so eager to know where you live. The man was so crazy about you and I am going crazy with his nonsense that you are his soulmate since you look so familiar to him at that very moment he laid eyes on you.” Jason’s rant echoed in the kitchen.
Emerald thought that she would really look familiar to Tyler since she looks exactly like their father but the idiot could not even point that out and even believe that she was his soulmate. As she thought of it, she felt nauseated and that she was now planning to seduce her own sibling. But she has to endure it for the sake of seizing that divine justice that her mother deserves. It might not be Tyler’s fault that he was the son of the man who hurt her beloved mother but there is no other way that Emerald could think of.
Gerald should pay for all the things he did to her mother and all those years that she was being bullied for not having a father. If Tyler is innocent then, was she also innocent and it was not her fault to be that devil’s daughter? But why was she suffering? Tyler shouldn’t be off the hook.
“Tell me more about Tyle.” she asked.
Jason was perplexed to her question and said, “Why became so interested in him all of a sudden? I tell you Emerald, he is my friend and you are also my friend. But I am more concerned with you. Stay with him as much as possible, he will only cause trouble to you.”
“Just likes assh*le father.” Emerald whispered.
“What did you say?” Jason inquired as he heard an inaudible word from Emerald.
“I said, thanks but you don’t have to worry. I know how to ake care of myself. I am just curious about the only heir of the university that I am going to study in college.” Emerald replied while shrugging her shoulders.
Jason nodded as if telling her that he understood. “You going to college in a school which is owned by his father has nothing to do with knowing him.”
Emerald rolled her eyes and said, “Yeah, yeah. But was he sure that he doesn’t have any siblings?”
“Where does that question come from?”
“Well, Tyler is a playboy. He might inherit tha from his father and he might have a child that he hides or abandoned.”
Jason’s eyes lit up and grinned. “An illegitimate child, you mean? Who knows.”
Emerald’s jaw clenched. She wanted to tell Jason that the illegitimate child that he was talking about was just right in front of him. Illegitimate child, yes, that’s what she is. The word used to describe her stings. But she would never be called such if only his irresponsible father married her mother.
She found out that Tyler was three years older than her so it means that this jerk Gerald was cheating on Tyler's mom and made her mother a side chick. He cheated on both women. Emerald came o a halt with that thought. Does her mother know that’s why she chose to run away?
“Eme, are you okay?” Jason’s gentle tap on her shoulder awakens Emerald.
“Yeah, I’m okay.” she replied.
“Let’s go outside. I'm bored.” Jason stood up as he made an invitation.
Emerald needed to clear her head so she agreed.
“Wait for me, I’ll just go get change.” she said and shut down her laptop.
The two went to Jason’s car and headed their way to their favorite place to hang out. It was quiet and very relaxing. They shared a meal and talked about certain things about school and their family. Emerald never brought up Tyler again.Afraid that Jason might find out something.
Right before they realized it was already sunset so Jason sent Emerald home where her mother was waiting. The old lady thanked Jason and invited him to have dinner but he declined. Emelia just nodded and smiled.
Emerald looks at her mother. She has lots of questions in her mind for her mother which she could only utter in her head. Then, she found it difficult to sleep after she flopped her body to bed. It was almost dawn when she dozed off.

Tyler paced back and forth across the polished hardwood floor of his home, the city lights glittering through the floor-to-ceiling windows behind him. One hand clutched his phone while the other raked through his hair with frustration. His jaw was tight, his chest rising and falling in slow, controlled breaths. But his eyes—dark, dangerous—burned with the heat of something he wasn’t used to: restraint. The phone rang again, for the third time. He waited until the final second before he answered.“Jason.”“Tyler,” came the sharp response. “You called. What’s going on?”“You know what’s going on.” Tyler’s voice was cold steel. “Why the hell are you warning Emerald about me?”A beat of silence. Then a low sigh. “Because I know you. Better than anyone. You don’t do relationships. You don’t do commitment. You chew women up and spit them out, and she’s—”“She’s not like the others,” Tyler cut in, voice rising. “She’s not a fling. You think I’d call you just to argue about someone I wasn’t s
CHAPTER 17The fluorescent lights of the university hallway buzzed, a monotonous hum that echoed Tyler's internal chaos. He’d rehearsed this moment a thousand times in his head, each version ending with a slightly less humiliating outcome than the last. He adjusted his tie, a nervous tic he’d picked up from his father (a man who, ironically, never seemed nervous about anything), and smoothed down his already perfectly combed hair.He was never like this before. He never got nervous because of a woman. He has always been a woman magnet wherever he goes and he doesn’t even have to ask them out. It was them who threw themselves at him. Women would always pull every trick they have on their sleeves just to catch his attention. But with Emerald, it’s different. She would barely throw a glance at him as if he is very disgusting to look at. Emerald, speaking of which, she was leaning against the lockers, a stack of books clutched to her chest, her brow furrowed in concentration as she flipp
In a blink of an eye, Emerald’s graduation will be on the next day. Time flew so fast and she was so excited. Not just because of the new chapter of her new life but because she can feel that what she was aiming for is within her reach. She was summoned by their principal and she feel like she was walking on cloud nine as she walked outside the principal’s office. Emerald was the top of her class and she is the valedictorian. That is the reason why she was called. The principal himself informed her about it. Her mother would be very happy with the news.“Hey, congratulations!” Jason was also delighted by the news though he expected it already.“Thanks, Jason.” Emerald smiled. “Let’s celebrate. Your treat this time.” He winked which made Emerald laugh. “Sure.” she replied which stunned Jason. Emerald was always frugal and never spend money if it is not necessary. She laughed at her best friend’s reaction. He knows her very well. She grabbed his hand and took him to the nearest ice c

Chapter 14Emerald’s heart was racing rapidly like it will come out of her chest anytime. She heaves in a deep breath trying to clam down her nerves. Bullets of sweats on her forehead and her palms are sweating as well. She was really nervous.“Just pull over, here Uncle.” Emerald handed the money to the driver before getting out of the cab.She was dropped by a slummy area. Emerald used to live in such neighborhood so she was not afraid. People looked at her and it was not new to her. Everywhere she goes, people will really take time to take a second look at her.Her appearance was different. She looks like a foreigner and she was sure that she got her looks from his father. Her face is different from her mother, she got green eyes same as the color of the gem which she believes that’s what she got her name from.“Excuse me, Aunty. Can you please tell me the way to Linda Shawl’s home?” Emerald asks the old woman who just descended from a cab, she has grocery stuff on both hands.“Sur
Chapter 13“What’s the problem, Emi?” Jason’s question brough Emerald back to her senses.“Nothing.” She denied.“I know you, don’t lie to me. You look like something is bothering you. Mind telling me?” Jason said.“Fine, I know you will pester me all day if I won’t tell you.” Emerald clicks her tongue. “Good thing, you know.” Jason said with a smug face.“It’s about my dad. There is a person that might lead me to him, to know his identity.”“Really, what makes you say that? Are you sure that this person is legit? How did you find him?” Jason asked her."The person is a she. Mom and I bumped into her when we went to eat at a restaurant yesterday. Mom was so scared seeing her and that makes sense because she never wants me to know who my father is. So, I was concluding that this woman knows everything about my mom’s past including my father base on her looks yesterday.”“You have a point there but it’s still dangerous, Emi. This person is a stranger and we don’t personally know her.
