Entry 2 : September 1940

When I woke up, she's not in her place. The infant was sleeping peacefully.

He has a white complexion, auburn hair and sometimes he opens his beautiful eyes which I guess will soon be blue.

I searched for his mom, first in the basement. She's not even in the bathroom which is just adjacent to the stairs.

I entered the bathroom with the child. I put down the infant next to the large basin, I get my towel to fixed myself, and get dressed when I plan to get upstairs.

I went upstairs to search for his mom. He was angelic and silent. The wooden planks upstairs creeks as my bare foot stepson it. Few of the sun rays entered the few openings in the windows, which was covered by wooden planks.

I just hope she hasn't left. I first passed the informal living room which I guess was never used unlike its counterpart, the formal one after the dining hall.

I passed the living room, and the next room was the dining hall. Its gold wooden table with thick glass still stands and the chair where I always sit, is still apart from the table.

My heart was pounding as if it will burst out of my chest. In my long years here, I don't have any experience in taking care of a child.

How could I know? All these years I am all alone, isolated from the world. Hiding myself from this jurassic country.

All my life I never courted any nor experience love. I'm still a virgin... I don't know why I preserved this much.

As I am about to reach the kitchen, there' a sound that continuously echoes.

*Chink* *Clank*

I think I heard something. Like metal or stainless items hitting another metal.

I hurriedly walk to the kitchen area. I thought it might be a raccoon who passed the window's barricades.

As I arrived there, my jaw almost dropped, it was messy. Very messy. Flours filled the island table, egg shells scattered, pans everywhere, ladles and some spatula were on the sink.

She saw me, I was stoned in my place.

I can still recall what she said, she was stuttering, "I-I'm so sorry for the mess. I wanna surprise you with a meal on the table. You're house was like a maze, it was enormous.”

I smiled at the compliment and my answer gave her a bitter smile, "Yeah..." I paused and looked at the mess again "...you really surprised me."

She looked at her son and asked if I can still carry him while she cleaned up her mess.

As she ends the last sticky flour off the table, another explosion occurred. The ground was trembling and Geanne was about to cry.

She took the infant from me and gently swayed him as she sang a lullaby.

I took the plates and carry it to the dining hall, I called her to eat our brunch.

At around five o' clock, the war and explosions continued. I told her to stay in the basement as I go out to get some supplies.

She held my hand, her face was filled with worries. She's about to cry, "Please be careful."

I smiled at her and she went down the basement. The knob turned and the door swung open. The sight of the place was horrible. Gladly we have a mighty steel gate that protects us from some debris.

As I took my step outside the gate, dusts and smoke filled the area, I cupped my hands to cover my nose and mouth.

Corpses were everywhere, men, women children, animals and even the soldiers.

Some houses survived the explosions. I have reached one of the abandoned supermarket.

It's almost empty, yet I was able to salvage some groceries. I took the privelege of getting a bunch of evaporated milk and some baby milk for the infant.

I have a bunch of items to carry. I was near the exit when I heard whinings. Dog whinings to be exact.

*whimpers*

I looked left and right but there's nothing. The whinings continued. Until a puppy came out, it walked to me. He was so tiny, he could fit in my pocket.

I picked him up and we went in again, I searched for foods I could offer to the puppy.

Canned dog foods were there, almost everything was near expiration. I searched in the infant’s section and grabbed some baby food, maybe he could eat those. After I have everything we need for a week, we left the area.

I'm almost home when I heard some soldiers, they were talking about the war, if it will end. Soldiers cannot be trusted this time. I tip-toed our way to the other end so they won't notice me.

I safely went home. As I locked the door, I was welcomed with a worried face.

"Why are you here?" I asked her while I place the groeries down to the floor.

"I can't just sit there, when I know you're out there. Unsafe." She asked me in a hush, she was carrying her child.

I saw that her wound freshen up again.

There are pints of blood on the bandage, she never noticed it, I guess.

Few minutes passed, I looked at her.

"Oh yeah, I forgot to ask your name.” I started.

"Sorry, I forgot that. I am Leana"

I smiled at her and offered my hand for a shake.

"I'm Sam.”

We shook our hands and she noticed the puppy jumped out of the bag.

*whines*

We went to the living room, “Leana, we need to tend that wound again.

She turned her head to see her wound, there’s blood. She never said anyhing and silently agreed on treating it again.

I went to the nearby first aid cabinet, well this house was surrounded by first aid kits and boxes. “You must not move much or carry heavy loads, your wound is not that healed.”

“I’m sorry, Sam. I will try not to overdo things.”

I returned to her and she place Geanne beside us.

I looked at her as if asking her permission again. Her skin was so soft and smooth like silk, I can feel it as I slowly lift her shirt. I can see her cheeks turn red.

Embarrassment. I tried not to wrapped the bandage tightly, “All done, Leana. Thank you for being patient with me.” I smiled at her as I slowly stood up and unpacked the groceries.

I prepared our meal and ate together.

This is the first time I am helping a mortal and now a mortal animal.

Would there be another mortal to join me in this ‘rollercoaster’ life in World War II.

Nothing much happened except we were added by a new member , Dante the puppy.
