Chapter 10 (Riley’s pov)

Riley’s pov

I rolled my eyes at Darius leaving, and turned my attention to Kieran and Sarius who were still hovering over me

‘’Well, leave with him”

‘’ We can’t all go and leave you here” Darius said

‘’ You are not listening …” I tried to say but Kieran interjected

‘’’ Now listen here you little” he paused before going, " The only thing we have been doing is listening to you but not today, I’m not doing that shit’’

He leaned in and stared into my eyes

‘’ Two things are definitely going to happen: either you talk and we deal with whoever did this to you or you don’t and we deal with you’’

Oh.

I got hard…

I don’t know what he meant but my heart thumped at his words and I could feel my face getting hot and all flushed as I looked to the side

‘’ Are you feeling sick?’’ Felix chipped in and pushed Kieran out of his way to check me

“yeah..no…’

“What?’’

“Tell me” Darius pleaded

‘’ I think….i …think you should leave… you are making him nervous’’ Felix said and I hurriedly aggreed

‘’ Yeah you are making me nervous”

‘’ You sure that’s the only thing happening? Kieran mocked

‘’ What’’

“I can smell you” Kieran taunted, leaning closer and grabbing my face. ‘’ You would love to be punished won’t you’’ he added, his voice going low and deeper.

I whimpered at the thought and leaned closer so that our noses were now touching, Kieran smiled at me and traced my face with his fingers, slowly and carefully.

His touches were like fire on my skin as I leaned into it by instinct, but was interrupted by someone’s cough on the side.

I pushed him off like I had been burned by his touch ‘’you guys should leave now’’ I cleared my throat, which now sounds hoarse.

Kieran moved back and put his hands in his pockets with a smirk on his face.

‘’ You saw that right? He can’t avoid my touch, he leaned into it’’ he said to Darius while keeping eye contact with me

‘’ I.. I will excuse …you guys…’’ Felix said not wanting to get caught in between.

‘No’’ I tried to disagree with him

“I will come see you later’’ Felix said heading to the door

“Felix!” He was already out the door.

His departure was followed by silence and stares befpre darius broke it again, he walked forward and held my hands.

‘’ Look at me’’ he said softly i gently turned my focus to him ‘’ Do you know how important you are to us?’’

‘’ What?’’

We have been mateless for centuries and heaven decided to smile upon us and give you to us, not one of us either…all of us." He paused, making sure that sank in before he continued

‘’ You were chosen for a reason’’

His explanation made me think and I decided to open up ‘’ why does it have to be me and not someone else?’’

“We don’t know that but we can find out.. Together, you have to stop running for that to happen”

Kieran interjected

‘’ I don’t want this and I know you are only doing this because of the bond and sparks and” I rambled

“We want you!” Kieran interjected

I looked at them and nodded, not because I am accepting this but because they sounded desperate.

Desperate to have me, desperate for them to hear me accept them but I have doubts, I always have my doubts

“Please tell us what’s in your head?’’

I want a moment to myself” I asked

Absolutely" Darius agreed immediately

“Fuck no! The last time” Kieran refused

“Please…get out” I pleaded

‘We will be right outside’ Darius assured

Kieran looked like he didn’t want to leave but Darius dragged him with him

Having the space to myself, my thoughts started to run through my head

They want me?

What if they just use me?

But they have been waiting for me for years

But they didn’t choose me, I was chosen for them

So they didn’t have any choice to begin with

But they accepted me

Soon they will get tired and dump me when they are done

Cassian loves to have sex if i can’t keep up he will choose someone else

Darius has always been kind to me

What if he is just putting up with me?

Kieran, hate it when I don’t listen

He will probably dump me in the midst of his anger

“Riley, Riely?’’ Rica called trying to get to me

“Stop getting all worked up kiddo”

‘You are going to be fine, and fit right in you need to have more faith in our mates”

My heartbeat tripled, and I found it difficult to breathe, with much difficulty, I got out of bed to get air outside but I stopped in my tracks

We will be right outside Darius had mentioned before leaving, turning around, I noticed the windows were wide enough for my size

I quickly opened it and jumped out without checking how high or low it was. I tripped and fell face-first.

My pain tripled and my leg shook as I dragged myself to a secluded place, the pain in my chest started to ease as I got far away from the clinic window.

I looked around to see where I had dragged myself to and noticed that it was the garden I had first tried to escape from the first day I got here.

It felt cool and calm, I took a deep breath and sat on the floor but the pain I felt along my body reminded me of what had happened to me

‘’I need to treat you, you should allow me” Rica suggested

I remembered him saying, I have to allow my powers to flow through

But I had thought about it

What if I can’t control this power?

“No Rica, I will heal the normal way” I refused

“Forget the normal way, this is the best way especially as a vessel to the important power that you are.” He explained

“You are a vessel holding a huge power inside of you, you cannot be this weak you need to heal as soon as possible so your powers won’t misbehave and you don’t want that” He warned

What…

“Oh, just who was I looking for” I was about to ask when an unfamiliar voice came

Who?

I tried to get the face of the intruder but got grabbed by the person

“Didn’t we warn you not to say a word to one”

The person spoke

“What are you talking about and who are…. The voice became familiar, and I realised that it was one of the voices in the crowd.

Marcus, the guy who wanted me to meet my death and was against the punishment.

Suddenly I felt my body empowered with a strange energy and just then my body began to work on its own, Marcus who grabbed me suddenly got thrown off me

“What’s happening?” I asked Rica

*Your powers are controlling you because you have refused to control them”

“What?”

*I have been trying to warn you.” Rica said

I moved on my own and felt energy leaving my body, and he got lifted in the air,

“The fuck! I always knew you were a freak you”

Marcus words got caught off as

He looked like he couldn’t breathe and I tried to stop myself but couldn’t.

I could do nothing but watch Marcus’s life sucked out of him

“Why am I doing that’’ I cried out

“Your body is protecting anything that attacks you this way” Rica said

“Make it stop”

“It won’t stop until it removes the danger out of the way”

“Stop it” I said to myself…. Rica… or whatever was controlling my body to do this.

I couldn’t do anything and had to watch him die in front of me.

What was more strange was the death of the person, he kept reducing as he was being drained of life.

His skin started to wrinkle like his blood was being drained and when it was done, his lifeless body dropped.

Slowly I got in control of my body, I felt like I had never been injured and stronger but the strange part was that I felt proud of what had happened.

The feeling felt overwhelming as I stepped away from the body and looked at my own hands

What have I done?

A clap brought me out of my thoughts…. I turned towards the sound...

Anthony .. The principal had a satisfied look on his face as he had just watched the best thing ever and behind him, my mates were there.

Darius' expression was unreadable, Kieran looked at the body then at me, and back to the body and Cassian's eyes never left mine since I turned.

“That was a beautiful performance Riley Lightwood, I have been looking forward to this… better than I expected I must say “ the principal said with a chilling smile.
