Chapter 4

Author: Demi Kool
Everyone turned to look at me, their eyes filled with suspicion.

"No, it really wasn't me!" I tried my best to defend myself. "I was just trying to…"

"Shut up! Stop making excuses!" Before I could finish, Dwayne cut me off sharply.

Only his bloodshot eyes remained fixed on me with pure hostility.

Dwayne started directing everyone.

"Listen to me. We vote him out first. Think about it. Oliver died, but the game didn't end. That means Oliver wasn't the undercover agent. And who pushed us to vote him out? This guy. He pointed all the suspicion toward Oliver. If it weren't for him, none of us would have voted at all. He directed the whole thing!"

Cheryl nodded in agreement, and suddenly, my situation became dire.

"I noticed something wrong with him from the start. When Oliver suspected Helen, he defended her and provoked Oliver on purpose to shift all suspicion. He's definitely the undercover agent."

Cheryl sounded completely convinced, and judging from the logic, I really had become the most likely suspect.

"Wait, let me explain. I…."

"Shut up!" Dwayne cut me off again. "There's nothing to explain. You're just trying to confuse us. You're the undercover agent!"

Rebecca, who had been silent the entire time, finally spoke, her voice trembling. "Why won't you let him finish? What you're doing now is trying to force us to turn against him. You're the one confusing everyone."

"Shut your mouth, you stupid woman! Do you even know what you're saying?" Dwayne snapped and kicked Rebecca hard.

Rebecca grabbed her stomach, her face twisting in pain as she collapsed.

"My stomach… It hurts… It really hurts…"

"What the hell are you doing?" Helen screamed at Dwayne.

"Oliver already said that you took huge fees to defend criminals, just to make money. You're the kind of person who'd do anything for profit. Who knows if you sneaked into this game for money or for some filthy reason? You'd even attack a pregnant woman. Who knows what kind of rotten heart you have?"

Cheryl covered her mouth while staring at Dwayne in horror.

His face had turned an ugly shade, and in an instant, the balance shifted. His position became far more dangerous than mine.

I didn't know whether he was the undercover agent, but I did know one thing: I wanted to survive.

"In this game, the last one standing wins. The undercover agent would definitely know all of our identities from the beginning. They'd work as hard as possible to eliminate us in the early rounds. So think carefully. Who's been stirring up alliances and confusion from the start? All of you know the answer," I said.

When I finished, the situation became clear.

Dwayne was now completely cornered.

"You stupid women! Do you even know what you're doing? What kind of poison did that loser feed you? You're a bunch of brainless idiots!" he snarled.

Dwayne thrashed wildly, the chains on his body rattling loudly. His neat suit was hanging crooked on him, making him look pathetic.

I pushed my glasses up and looked at him calmly.

"If I remember correctly, the person you defended back then was the son of the former city commissioner. Do you know what that guy did? He and his friends assaulted a 17-year-old girl, and they murdered her afterward. For your own gain, you forged medical records and claimed he had mental issues. Because of you, that monster walked free!"

Based on my understanding of Byron, I guessed he would go after Elizabeth.Sure enough, he took the bait. The moment he saw her, he set his sights on her.-Extra: Cheryl's POVMy name was Cheryl, and I grew up poor.Real poverty brings nothing but pain and humiliation. We were so poor that even my teachers looked down on me. One day, I overheard them whispering in the office."That kid from the middle of nowhere is disgusting. She always smells like a pigsty."That was the moment I realized I would never escape the chains of class and poverty.I wanted money. I wanted a lot of money. And right then, Byron found me.He told me to get close to Elizabeth. He often had me deliver things to her. Each time, he paid me 1,000 dollars. To me, that was a huge amount of money; more than I had ever seen in my life. Things kept snowballing until the day Byron told me to lure Elizabeth into the woods.I knew something was wrong, but he offered me ten thousand dollars that time.Ten

Furious, I killed the cat I had given Elizabeth. She cried her heart out. Honestly, I actually regretted it for a moment. But that regret didn't last long. One day, the city commissioner's son, Byron Cohen, came looking for me. He thought I was Elizabeth's boyfriend. He swaggered up, riding on his father's power, and slapped my cheek lightly. "Listen, kid. Stay away from Elizabeth. She's mine."I was angry at first, but then he pulled a wad of cash out of his bag.Immediately, I shut up.The little brat had money. I realized that as long as I stayed close to him, the cash he tossed around without thinking could support me for months.I became his shadow, flattering him endlessly. On the day he got released without charges, I was the one who told him that Elizabeth's family planned to report him again. That was when he decided to kill them.I honestly thought Byron was just going to scare them a little. I never imagined he would actually murder the entire family.I panicke

"Hurry! Let me out! I won!" I shouted at the chamber's speaker."What's the rush?"A voice suddenly rang out behind me.I spun around in terror and saw Oliver, the one who had died at the very beginning, walking toward me perfectly intact. My eyes locked onto his neck as he rolled it casually and stopped right in front of me. "What's the rush? Don't you want the money?"I stepped back, shocked. "You're the Butcher?"Oliver nodded. Then, he reached into his right pocket and pulled out a check. "Five hundred thousand per person. Five people total. I'll round you up and give you three million."He was the Butcher.Half a month ago, I had run out of money completely. That was when someone using the screen name "The Butcher" contacted me.He asked me to join a game. Every time I eliminated a player, I would get 500 thousand dollars.I thought it would be some harmless challenge.Until the first person died. That was when I realized it wasn't a normal game at all. It was a prem

The chains hooked to Cheryl's arms and legs suddenly yanked in opposite directions. The gears connected to them spun violently, and her body was torn into several large pieces in an instant.Blood splattered everywhere. The mangled pieces of her body hung from the ceiling of the chamber. The speakers crackled again."Unfortunately, even after several rounds, you still haven't identified the undercover agent. But since everyone has participated so enthusiastically, we will adjust the rules of the game."Only one of you may leave this room alive. The two of you must negotiate."The one who survives must give the index finger of their right hand as the price for leaving. The one who does not leave will remain sealed in this room forever."Rebecca and I stared at each other. With a rattle, the chains on our bodies loosened.Rebecca suddenly collapsed to the floor, clutching her stomach. "It hurts… It hurts…"I rushed over and helped her up. Her face was pale, her breathing rough,

Helen's body hung from the metal chains, swinging back and forth in the air.Watching it swing, Rebecca couldn't hold it in and started vomiting loudly. Cheryl was so shocked by the sight that she couldn't say a single word. The speakers crackled again."The game continues."What?Helen wasn't the undercover agent! For more than ten minutes, the entire chamber was so silent that it felt suffocating.Until a sudden, sharp burst of laughter pierced the quiet."Hahahahahaha…"Cheryl's lipstick was smeared all over her mouth, leaving her looking completely disheveled and pitiful. Her hair was a tangled mess, covering her crazed, unfocused eyes. "I'm gonna die… I'm gonna die… I'm gonna die here…"Rebecca finally broke down as well. She sobbed uncontrollably. "Who's behind this? Why are they doing this to us? Why are they killing us? What did we do wrong?"Helen wasn't the undercover agent. So who was?Since the game was still going, the agent had to be one of the two still bes

Helen's voice shook, her words tangled. "H-How can you say that about me? It really isn't me! I'm not lying. I'm not the undercover agent!"Human hearts are unpredictable. Even so, people still make assumptions about others as long as it benefits themselves.Even if they're wrong.Helen kept explaining, but Cheryl and Rebecca clearly didn't believe her. Helen finally looked at me, as if begging for help.Yes, she helped me. If it weren't for her, I probably would have died in the earlier rounds. But I wanted to live.Even if she wasn't the undercover agent, even if the truth didn't matter that much… People would do anything for their own benefit. It has always been that way.I pretended not to see her and turned my head away. I felt sorry, but we needed someone to eliminate…and Helen was the best choice. As long as one more person was gone, I would be one step closer to winning. If I could hold out to the end, I could leave here alive.I wanted to stay alive. Nothing matte
