“I have to tell you something.” I automatically expected the worse when Sully said this the moment I woke up and walked into the kitchen. She had cooked beef porridge and prepared orange juice. I had to admit that she had gotten very good at cooking a few dishes.

I rubbed my eyes. I still was sleepy. I could not understand why I suddenly was so sleepy. I had not been like this in a long time.

Lloid was still sleeping. I poked his back a few times with my finger but he did not even move. It was like he was dead, so I checked his pulse. He was alive. Just asleep.

I turned my attention back to Sully, who looked like she did something she was ashamed of. It was not like Sully. She usually was never ashamed of anything she did. She rarely felt guilty about something. She always said that she never regretted a single decision she made.

“Is something wrong?” I asked. My head felt numb. It was like I could not think straight. For this reason, I never took sleeping potion no matter how hard it

“I don’t think my husband told you to keep an eye on me like that!”“Like what, my lady?” Asher asked. A smirk was playing on his face.“You were eavesdropping,” I said. “Now, love, there is no reason for that, is there?”“I was wondering if the rumors were true,” he said.“The rumors?” I repeated. For a while, it did not make sense. And then it clicked. “Ah! The rumors about me and an alchemist!”“Your husband even put you two in the same chamber for the night. Well, that intrigued me,” Asher said.“You kept an eye on us in the room as well, did you not?” I asked, although I did not have to.“I was disappointed though,” Asher said coolly.“Seriously? Why would I have an affair with another man when my husband is everything I wanted?” I said.Leo went out for a while. Asher and many of the guards were told to keep an eye on me in case someone tried to attack me. They were supposed to be stealthy, but Asher, for some reason, was not being so.“For starters, he chained you up,” Asher sa

“Have you heard the rumors?” Leo asked me as soon as I went down to have breakfast. He woke up before me and went down without waking me up. He was having a bowl of porridge. Gosh, I hated porridge. I ordered some bread and soup.“I just woke up, Leo. Give me a break,” I said.“Half of the estate of House Silverclaw is apparently ruined.”I raised my brow at him.“But,”- he held up his finger dramatically- “the Silverclaws won. It looks like your father has been taken captive. The King won’t intervene. So, it’s just your father and his men, who were not enough to defeat the Silverclaws.”“Good,” I said. Leo was drinking whiskey.I took his glass and took a sip. It was strong.“He deserves nothing other than whatever the Silverclaws will do to him,” I said.I was not angry at Jade Star just for beating me. He betrayed my mother’s trust and their wedding vows repeatedly. He never showed us siblings what it was like to have a loving and attentive father. He beat up Millie for no reason.

Demian left right after brining me back to our room in the inn. He had listened to everything Rezef and I talked about, but did not say anything about it. It his way of giving me privacy. He would have never left me alone with Rezef, but at least, he had the grace to pretend that mine and Rezef’s conversation had been private.“Is the innkeeper trustworthy?” Leo asked. He was lying down on the bed under the covers. It was very windy outside. I had kept the window open so it would not feel stuffy inside. The room was cold because of that.“Demian said he is,” I said. “Demian’s people very rarely betray him.”Demian trusted Leo with me. In fact, when Leo contacted us, it was Demian who said that Leo should stay with me. Not just with me, but also in the same room.Demian was a jealous man, but he knew and trusted the relationship between Leo and me. It made me feel proud of him for some reason.“What did you talk to Rezef about?” Leo asked.“What do you think we talked about?” I asked b

Sully wore a silk black dress that showed her curves perfectly. I tried not to look at her that way. She was not mine. She was someone else’s wife.“How have you been, Rezef?” Sully asked as she came near. She was alone, but I knew better. Her husband was nearby, watching us from somewhere.“Not bad,” I said. It was true. All this time back at House Thorn, I had been worried about Sully. I could not stay still. I could not relax at all. Here, at least, I knew that Sully was safe; that she was okay. I could not have her and that hurt, but she was okay nonetheless.Sully’s curly hair was undone, flying here and there with the wind. It had been too hot last night and today, it was too windy. There was a storm coming. The storm might hit us at midnight.“What now?” I asked.Sully’s red eyes fell on mine. “Whatever you decide. Whatever we decide.”“I suppose you will be with him.”“He is not really a bad man, Rezef. Not to me,” she said. “He understands me.”“I could have tried to understa

“What did you talk to him about?” I asked as soon as Demian came back. “And take off that goddamn cloak, Demian. It’s hot in here.”Demian took the cloak off and sat down on the side of the bed. We were to stay here for a while. Or at least, I was to stay here because Demian needed to go to the estate the next day.I did not need to talk to Rezef to tell him to take his men back. He did so on his own after talking to Demian. Demian’s spies reported this information to him just a while ago and Demian had just returned from talking to Rezef at an inn. Rezef had been fast to make his decision.Yet, Rezef told Demian, before Demian left, that he wanted to see me one last time.I started unbuttoning Demian’s shirt, standing in front of him, between his legs. He was not sweaty much even though my skin felt like it was on fire from all the heat of the day. It was the middle of the night, but it was still hot.“We talked about you,” Demian answered. His eyes were on mine. He always managed ey

I did not want to imagine the things that Sully and that damn Silverclaw did. It hurt to even imagine such things. It angered me that Sully let another man do the things to her than I had wanted to do for a long time.Yet, I forced myself to listen to Demian Silverclaw. I wanted to understand what Sully saw in him. I wanted to know why Sully loved him.“Sully and I became close. We talked a lot. She told me all about her childhood, her time at the academy and about her friends. She told me about Leo and Maxi.”“Leo and Maxi,” I muttered. He and Sully killed Kyle. They tortured him. Leo explained everything to me, but I still could not believe that Sully could do that to someone. She always seemed headstrong, but I never could imagine that she could be cruel as well.“She told me about what her brother did to Maxi which led that girl to commit suicide. I actually felt the need to kill Kyle myself, but the way Sully explained everything made it obvious that she wanted to do it herself.

I was obsessed with Sully. I noticed everything about her. No matter where we were, my eyes always founds her and I could never help staring at her. I also liked everything about her. Something about the way she smiled, she talked, she laughed made me want her even more. I never knew it was possible to want someone this much until I married her. Now, I could not imagine living without her.I was always looking into the future. One of the things that I did every single day was predicting the future, imagining what would happen. In every single one of those imaginations, Sully was there with me, by my side. And she was happy. Her happiness mattered. Everything about her mattered. In the future that I imagined, I got what I wanted. Since childhood, I wanted a lot of things, but never got them. Sully could say proudly that she got what she always wanted, but I could not say the same; I wanted to though. At this moment, I wanted my wife to stay by my side forever. And I so desperately wish

I was suspicious regarding Demian’s actions. He was acting very sweet to me as if nothing happened. I knew he was still angry about what I did, although he did not show it.Now, he said he would meet Rezef Thorn. Rezef sent Demian a letter via Leo and wanted to talk to him, not as enemies, but as normal men. And Demian agreed.“You will not hurt him, will you?” I asked Demian.“Why would I hurt him?” Demian asked, tilting his head to one side. He was not being serious; it was one of those rarest times. I did not know what to make of that. Would he truly not hurt Rezef or not?“Demian, please. Be serious,” I said.“I never thought I would hear someone say that to me.”“I never thought I would have to say this to you either. But here we are.”Demian started combing his hair.“Give me that,” I said, taking the comb from him. Demian sat on a stool and I started combing his hair. “I don’t understand what you are doing. First, you are being very nice to me.”“Is it wrong to be nice to my ow

Leo had stayed with Rezef to make sure he was safe. Demian had put Rezef somewhere else while Leo and I were doing our work in the tent. We had to do our work a little quicker because of the fire.Kyle also died too quickly. He died before we could have our fun fully.I watched as Demian washed the blood of my body. He worked methodically. Now he was scrabbing my arm. His eyes were focused even though the task was a simple one.“Are you angry at me?” I asked.“I don’t like anyone defying me,” Demian said. “I don’t like when someone does the exact opposite thing of what I told them. I also don’t like it when my plan does not go properly.”“Plan?”“Everything is a plan. I determine everything beforehand. You being in that tower was a plan as well. I do not do anything without a plan,” he said. “You got my men killed.”“A few of them. It was inevitable, Demian. A war is going on,” I said. “But you also thought of this possibility, didn’t you?”His silver eyes met mine.Demian thought of
