Demian did not come. But he sent a carriage to take me back to the estate. I still did not know exactly what transpired there. Jade Star was chained to the wall, blood dripping from the tips of his fingers where his nails had been.I felt nothing but anger when I looked at him. He should be suffering much more.โWhat are you doing here, boy? Came to talk?โ Jade Star asked. He was angry too. He was frustrated. He just tried not to show it.โYou hurt my wife,โ I said.โYour wife?โ He let out a bitter laugh. โYou took away my daughter! Your father took away my sister! And you are saying I hurt your wife?โโSully went to you because she thought you would protect her, just like you should have, because she is your daughter. You asked her whether she was raped by me or not and she said she consented. You did not like it when she told you that she was pregnant. You beat her up cruelly and you caused a miscarriage.โโI do not regret a single thing I did,โ he spat.โYou hurt the woman I love. You hurt her not just physically. You caused her to lose a father even when he is alive,โ I said calmly. I did not feel calm.โ

Ten days passed in horrifying waiting. I was worried about Demian. There had been no word from him. I heard that some of the members of the Silverclaw family were gravely injured. โHave you heard the rumors?โ Leo asked me as soon as I went down to have breakfast. He woke up before me and went down without waking me up. He was having a bowl of porridge. Gosh, I hated porridge. I ordered some bread and soup.โI just woke up, Leo. Give me a break,โ I said.โHalf of the estate of House Silverclaw is apparently ruined.โI raised my brow at him.โBut,โ- he held up his finger dramatically- โthe Silverclaws won. It looks like your father has been taken captive. The King wonโt intervene. So, itโs just your father and his men, who were not enough to defeat the Silverclaws.โโGood,โ I said. Leo was drinking whiskey.I took his glass and took a sip. It was strong.โHe deserves nothing other than whatever the Silverclaws will do to him,โ I said.I was not angry at Jade Star just for beating me. He betrayed my motherโs trust and their wedding vows repeatedly. He never showed us siblings what it was like to have a loving and attentive father. He beat up Millie for no reason.

Demian left right after brining me back to our room in the inn. He had listened to everything Rezef and I talked about, but did not say anything about it. It his way of giving me privacy. He would have never left me alone with Rezef, but at least, he had the grace to pretend that mine and Rezefโs conversation had been private.โIs the innkeeper trustworthy?โ Leo asked. He was lying down on the bed under the covers. It was very windy outside. I had kept the window open so it would not feel stuffy inside. I did not want to imagine the things that Sully and that damn Silverclaw did. It hurt to even imagine such things. It angered me that Sully let another man do the things to her than I had wanted to do for a long time.Yet, I forced myself to listen to Demian Silverclaw. I wanted to understand what Sully saw in him. I wanted to know why Sully loved him.โSully and I became close. We talked a lot. She told me all about her childhood, her time at the academy and about her friends. She told me about Leo and Maxi.โโLeo and Maxi,โ I muttered. He and Sully killed Kyle. They tortured him. Leo explained everything to me, but I still could not believe that Sully could do that to someone. She always seemed headstrong, but I never could imagine that she could be cruel as well.โShe told me about what her brother did to Maxi which led that girl to commit suicide. I actually felt the need to kill Kyle myself, but the way Sully explained everything made it obvious that she wanted to do it herself.
