Chapter 3: Punishment

‘Alpha Alastor?’

A voice infiltrated the mind of the mysterious man who stood looking at the cowering policewoman still sitting in her seat.

‘What?’

‘I am done talking with the head officer and fulfilling the necessary terms for this deal; you can bring Luna with you outside now.’ Jax Ubel, the Beta of Pack Helix and subordinate to Alpha Alastor Tynen, said informing him that the task had been done just as Alastor would have liked him to.

Grinning at the good news which Alastor knew wouldn’t have been hard for his capable Beta to have gotten done he walked out of the interrogation room and towards the lobby to find Vevina aiming her gun at a passing officer who was looking at her with some discomfort while Jax came out of another corridor talking to a man.

On feeling his Alpha’s presence Jax looked and bowed his head in respect making the officer look towards Alastor as well. Walking up to him he stretched out his hand for a handshake as he greeted him, “John Dean at your service Mr. Tynen! It’s an honor to have met you in reality.”

Staring at the outstretched hand in front of him Alastor made no move to take it and Jax gripped on to it on his behalf, understanding the motive as Alastor smiled and said, “I hope you have been pleased with our donation.”

The man seemed insulted and perturbed at being brushed off so blatantly but didn’t make any remark on it knowing his place. “Of course we are!” He hesitated for a little while looking at the crazy woman who had been ignoring the powerful man who had come to her rescue, “If you don’t mind can I ask you the reason behind why you would want to help Miss Yaretzi?”

When Alastor raised a brow at his sudden interest in this matter, the man became nervous and rubbing his bald head he chuckled, wiping away a few beads of perspiration. “Oh no it’s just that you have nothing to do with such a small town and yet for you to have personally come so far just for a young insane girl like her, it made me wonder why…”

He trailed off, not daring to complete his sentence when he noticed the ticking of Alastor’s jaw. He had stepped on a land mine he knew but what it had been was far from his knowledge and gulping a load of his saliva, he looked away.

“Mr. Dean, I am sure you have heard about the quote, curiosity killed the cat?” Alastor alleged eyeing the man with his freezing blue eyes, “Working in this particular facility you must be aware that it has gotten more people killed than just a puny animal. You wouldn’t want to be one of them, do you?”

To threaten a police officer in their own station and yet have them cower in their presence was the kind of man that Alastor Tynen was.

Realizing that he was standing on a very thin rope of life and death John looked from Jax to Alastor and then excusing himself he rushed back into his office muttering out an apology for having tried snooping in his business.

The few other officers who had been watching this spectacle with apt attention were at once aware of his power. The ones who had identified him had kept to themselves from the very beginning but the ones who hadn’t before were being particularly quiet and staying out of his way or the young woman’s who had been slouching against the wall watching him as well.

Having her gaze on him made Alastor smile in her direction and walking up to her the three exited the police station and stepped out into the afternoon sun.

“I am sure you don’t want to go back to your home,” Alastor started but cutting him off in between Vevina asked, “Since when did I have a home?”

The sass that she was giving him was a clear indication of her annoyance towards him and smiling he said, “I will take that as a no, so how about I propose you a deal?”

This garnered her attention towards him at once making him chuckle inwardly, happy to know all her right buttons to push to get what he wanted.

“What do you mean?” She asked, cocking her head at him while refusing to look at that magnetic smile on his face.

“First tell me how did you feel after killing your parents today?” he asked and the question plastered a mellow smile on her pretty face making his wolf yip in happiness at the expression.

“Fucking amazing! The feeling was so liberating and invigorating that I had wished I could have a repeat of it all over again,” she said, making Alastor hide a chuckle at her excitement. She was almost like a child trying to explain why she had liked a particular game that she had played.

“If so then what do you say about being my personal assassin? I will have you kill people and somebody will clean up the mess that you make. You will be paid richly and I will even provide you with a home to stay with and any other facilities that you want.”

A spark glinted in her dead brown eyes transforming into jewels before his gaze at the radiance that they held. It reminded him of a chocolate opal ring that he had bought in a charity event and had once belonged to an ancient Ethiopian queen.

‘That gem would suit her.

He thought coming back to the slight nod of the woman who was trying to suppress her excitement, “I’ll do it,” she said and then looking around she asked, “Now that that’s settled how about you take me to my new place? I am really fucking tired from all this adrenaline rush this morning.”

“That is our ride,” Alastor said pointing to a big SUV parked a little away but before she could skip away to it he brought her attention to the man standing beside him and said, “Meet my secretary Jax Ubel. You will be seeing him often so I want you to act civil towards him.”

The thought of being civil to anyone wasn’t pleasant to Vevina but nodding she was about to head to the car to claim the front passenger seat when Alastor caught hold of her wrist. She found his grip to be surprisingly tight and with a sudden pull he claimed her lips before she could stop him.

It was over even before she could fathom it but the after effects of the kiss had left her lips tingling as she stared at him with her mouth slightly parted, breathing deeply from the abruptness of the act.

“Since you have already agreed to the deal you must know that being my personal killer would mean that you have to listen to everything that I tell you to do. There will be punishments if you fail to follow this,” he said, mirth swimming in his eyes taking Vevina by surprise.

She wasn’t prepared for this new twist and glaring at him she wretched her hand out of his hold and shouted, “You never said anything about that! And why the fuck would you kiss me with your filthy lips?”

Amusement surged inside Alastor at her words; he knew that she wasn’t just going to give into loving words of his so this was the only way that he could get to her. Clashing against her was the only way that he would be able to stay close to his mate.

“Well now you know and I don’t think this should be a deal breaker for all the luxury that I will be providing you,” He said gauging her reaction which simmered slightly at the mention of it, “Besides that kiss was a punishment for disobeying me just now. Didn’t I tell you to be civil to Jax?”

What the fuck had she gotten herself into to?

Vevina couldn’t help but wonder but realizing that he was her only ticket to the kind of life that she would want to live she glared at him and looking at Jax she said, “Nice to meet you. Well not really but you know…”

She couldn’t bring herself to be nice, it felt like the two were mocking her and before Alastor had a chance she glared and ran to the car.

This wasn’t the best response but it was an improvement in Alastor’s eyes.

“Why are you doing this Alpha?” Jax asked, unable to understand what was going on his Alpha’s head to have put out such a deal forward to his own mate. “She is your mate so why are you giving her tasks that might put her in danger? Or making her do things that she wouldn’t like?”

The word mate coming out in respect to Vevina put a handsome smile on Alastor’s face. He had waited long enough to claim her and now that she was in front of him it was becoming harder trying to restrain himself from proclaiming this fact to her.

“She is a human. She is weaker than us and you know that once my enemies learn about her they are going to try and hurt her to get to me. I can’t let that happen. Vevina has to become strong to stand in front of the pack as a capable Luna or else no one will accept her,” Alastor explained, clarifying the need for him to be so cruel towards his own mate.

‘I don’t want mate to get hurt,’ his wolf, Bain, murmured in his head, making him agree but they both knew it was necessary for her to get stronger both mentally and physically to become someone who could stand side by side with him.

“But I fear that something bad might happen,” Jax fretted for the mate of his Alpha and his would be Luna. His devotion to the couple was concrete and harder than any substance known on earth.

“It’s exactly this doubt that I want to remove from every person’s mind when they meet her.” Alastor explained, “And I am sure that my mate will be able to achieve this impossible task.”
