Chapter Nineteen

I woke in his bed.

The silk still clung to my skin, and the memory of his hands haunted every inch of me. Shame pressed heavily, but underneath it, a restless ache throbbed, as though my body still begged for him.

If I had to bleed for it, I would.

The thought circled, cruel and sweet, until the chamber door opened and he stood there, all fire and command.

Kael’s gaze swept over me like a predator sizing up prey.

“Up,” he said.

I sat, heart lurching. “Why?”

His lips curved, dangerous and knowing. “Because the world is waiting. And the court must see you.”

Panic hit me. “No, not today. Not after”

He crossed the room in three long strides, tilting my chin with fingers that refused to let me look away.

“You think chains exist only in my chambers?” His voice was soft, ruthless. “No, little dove. They’re everywhere. And today, you’ll wear them for all to see.”

I trembled. “They will see.”

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    The Door Below

Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Seven Liana POV We move farther in. The air changes again. It gets colder fast, like we stepped deeper into the ground. My fingers go numb even though I keep them close to my sides. The torch flame wavers, stretching shadows across the stone. Kael walks ahead of me now, but close enough that I can still feel him there. The guards stay behind us, their footsteps slower than ours. The tunnel begins to curve. The walls narrow, then widen again. The ground turns rough under my shoes. Dust rises around my ankles. My chest tightens. This part of the castle was never meant to be found. Not by me. Not by anyone. But someone has been here. Recently. There are scuff marks on the floor. Faint, but clear once I see them. Boot prints. One set. Not running. Not stumbling. Walking like they knew exactly where they were going. My pulse hits harder. Kael sees it too. He slows. Looks back at me. His voice is steady. “Stay close.” I already am. We

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    The Lower Gate

Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Six Liana POVWe move quickly, and the castle changes around us.The walls feel narrower. The air turns colder. The sound of footsteps and orders begins to rise from below, layered into something sharp and tense. I match Kael’s pace, though every muscle in my body is pushing harder to keep up.My heartbeat is too loud. It fills my ears. It makes everything feel closer. We take the stone steps downward, and the atmosphere shifts again. The corridors here are not polished like the upper halls. The torches burn lower. The stone is darker. The air smells like metal and earth. This is where soldiers move. This is where reality stays.Kael doesn’t slow. His cloak moves behind him like it’s part of him, like the castle air itself makes room for him to pass. Three guards fall in step behind us. No one speaks. No one needs to.My breathing is steady, but my stomach is tight.I keep thinking of the voices in the hall.Of the way they looked at me.Of how quickly t

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    Whispers in the Hall

Chapter One Hundred and Forty-FiveLiana POVWe walk, and the echo of our steps follows us down the corridor. The air feels warmer here, like the stone walls hold every word that’s ever been spoken inside them. I try to breathe normally, but my chest is tight. My body is tired, but my mind won’t sit still.Kael doesn’t speak. He doesn’t need to. His presence is enough. Solid. Heavy. Close.A guard opens a door before we reach it. Kael keeps walking. I match his pace without thinking.Something feels different. Not between us.Around us.Like the castle itself is shifting, turning its head, finally noticing me.We move past two servants near the archway, and I hear it.Not words.Just the sound people make when they stop talking too fast.Like they had been speaking about us.About me.I don’t look. But I feel it in the back of my spine.Kael doesn’t break stride.I keep my shoulders straight and my gaze forward. But my hands feel warm, like heat is rising under my skin.We take the la

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    The Walk to the Council

Chapter One Hundred and Forty-FourLiana POVI stay lying there longer than I should. His hand is still on my waist. My breathing is steady now, but my chest feels full in a way that scares me. I don’t know what I am supposed to do with this. With him. With the way he looks at me like he already knows I will come back even if I try to walk away. His eyes are on me.He is watching. Not with hunger this time. Something quieter. Something that feels more dangerous.I look away first.I slowly move his hand off my waist and sit up. The shift is careful, slow, like my body is unsure if it is allowed to leave. My legs feel weak when they touch the floor. My fingers curl against the sheets. He sits up behind me. I feel the warmth of him at my back. He does not reach for me.He is waiting.I stand.I don’t look back. The air feels thick against my skin. I pull on my dress with shaking hands. The fabric slides over my shoulders, my hips. It feels different now. Like my body isn’t the same body

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    Waking in His Arms

Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Three Liana’s POV I wake slowly. There is no light here. Only warmth. The kind that settles into the skin and holds. My cheek rests against his chest. His arm is around my waist. His hand is still there, resting low, like he forgot to move it even in sleep. His breathing is steady. Deep. Relaxed. He sleeps like someone who does not fear anything in this world. I stay still for a moment. I just breathe. I let my eyes stay shut. I do not know what I am supposed to feel. Safe. Trapped. Wanted. Owned. All of it sits in my chest at once, heavy and sharp. I do not move because I am afraid the moment will break. Or change. Or I will remember something I can’t handle right now. My fingers curl slightly against his skin. His heartbeat is slow. Solid. The kind that feels like it could carry you through a storm. I swallow. I should get up. I should pull away. I don’t. My body stays where it is, like it made the choice for me b

  • The King’s Relentless Desire    In the Dark

Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Two Liana POV The room is dim now. The fire has burned lower, but it’s still there, a soft orange glow against the stone walls. I lie beside him, still close, still warm from where our bodies were together. I feel the heat of his arm resting behind my back. My hand is on his chest. His breathing is slow and steady. I don’t move. I don’t speak. I just listen to him breathe. His skin smells like clean linen and smoke from the torches. My hair is tangled against his shoulder, and my legs are still tangled with his beneath the blankets. Everything feels quiet. Not silent. Just settled. His fingers move slowly along my spine. Not in a pattern. Just the way someone touches without thinking. Familiar. Certain. He doesn’t fall asleep quickly. Neither do I. My thoughts try to go to the morning. To the road. To danger. But being here with him pulls me back. I stay in the moment because I have to. Because the world outside this room waits to take him from m
