Chapter 1 Tips to Cheat

Author: Audrey Hayes
"What's wrong with you, OP? Why are you doing this if you're really dying?"

"Yeah, I suggest you come clean. She has a right to know what's going on."

The anonymous guy answered, "I can't. It's part of the system's restrictions. If I leak anything to her, she'll take my punishment in my place. I exchanged my life for hers, and I'm not going to fail where it counts."

"My brain's shutting down in six days. My memories are already getting jumbled up. I might not even remember her when the time comes, but the last thing I need is for her to remember me for the rest of her life."

I stared at the answers and frowned.

I was a relationship advisor with millions of fans, and I had to deal with hundreds of private messages every day.

Men who claimed they were doing it for their partner's own good while they were abusing them and trying to force a breakup was not new to me.

So, I quickly answered this jerk's question bluntly, "Don't flatter yourself. If you want to save her, go the extra mile. Relationships for women are built on respect and memories.

"You'll have to toss the presents she gave you into the bin and insult her pride and joy until it sounds worthless. Your job is to make her feel like her time would be better spent raising a dog than dating you."

A sense of satisfaction coursed through my veins, as if I had torn apart an evil man's mask.

The guy sent me a crying emoji. "But she saved three months' worth of her pay for that watch. I can't do it."

I snickered. 'Yeah, right.'

I twisted the knife deeper. "Really? I guess you'd rather she stay widowed for life and wallow in agony. How selfish of you."

A long stretch of silence followed, long enough for me to think he'd logged off.

A while later, a new message came in, saying, "You're right. There's no point dragging it out. I don't mind being scum if it means she can live the rest of her life happy and content."

Then, he added, "I'll throw that watch away right now."

  • The Last Advice I Ever Gave   Chapter 10 A Dream

Quincy's funeral was a simple one, as only close friends were invited. There weren't any fake pleasantries or theatrics, nor was there any sad, sorrowful music blaring at max volume. The day of the cremation came. I filled the urn with his ashes myself. When his belongings were sorted out, a staff member found the brooch in the ashes lying within the brazier. The heat had deformed the brooch. A sheen of gray mist had marred the surface of the gemstone and robbed its gleam. However, it was more precious than any gem in the world in my eyes.I clasped it before my chest, where it could sit close to my heart. As long as I had it, it would feel like Quincy was right there with me.Once Quincy's final affairs were handled, I logged into my relationship advisor account. That post for help was still in the backlog. The final message was his. It said, "I'm sorry I messed up."I stared at that single line for the whole night. Then, I came up with a reply, even if there was no one to see i

  • The Last Advice I Ever Gave   Chapter 9 The Countdown Begins

Now that the truth was finally out, we never once brought up anything about him making me hate him for the next three days. His bodily functions started deteriorating rapidly. The system didn't wipe him out early because he had sort of cheated, but it did take away what remained of his consciousness. He was losing his memory. One moment, he would be sipping from his glass of water normally, and the next, he would ask me who I was. However, Quincy was as gentle as ever. As long as I held his hand, he would calm down even if he couldn't recognize me. For the next few days, I turned my phone off and unplugged the Internet.I didn't go anywhere. I stayed home with him and replayed every moment we'd shared for the last 10 years.I cooked for him on the first day. It was a simple dish, and I put a dash of too much salt. It took nearly everything he had just to eat. He could barely hold his fork.I fed him every morsel. He started crying halfway through. "It's great," he said through a

  • The Last Advice I Ever Gave   Chapter 8 Drop It Already

"I'm telling you to drop the act." I let go of him and wiped the sweat off his forehead. "Your left eyebrow always twitches when you lie. That has never changed, even after 10 years."All the color disappeared from Quincy's face. He shoved me away, genuine panic written all over his face. "I don't know what you're talking about! I cheated! I don't love you anymore! Leave! Get out! Why won't you get out?"His screams were nearly hysterical. He grabbed a pillow and hurled it at me like it was a boulder, not a squishy, harmless thing. The actor was evidently scared. She grabbed her bag and ran off without even asking for payment. Now, we were alone in our house. Quincy was having a meltdown, clutching his head as he sank to the ground in agony. "Why didn't it work? What is wrong with you, Gina? Why won't you hate me even after all that? Come on, hate me already! Please!"He was crying like a child who needed help, but no adult was around to offer any aid. I went down on my knees

  • The Last Advice I Ever Gave   Chapter 7 The Stage is Set

The next day came, and I left my bedroom with my eyes red and puffy. The guest room's door was tightly shut, and there was no breakfast waiting on the table. I had woken up to a table that had nothing hot waiting for me for the first time in 10 years.Instead, there was a piece of paper sitting on the surface. It was Quincy's wish list. Well, not exactly. It was a list of how he wanted to make me hate him.The words were scribbled, and some were already muddied from water… No, tears. His tears."Throw the album away (Completed).""Destroy her manuscript (Completed).""Cheat on her (In progress)."The last line made my pupils narrow. My phone buzzed at the same time."I only have four days left. She brought up divorce yesterday, but the progress bar showed that she didn't hate my guts. I'm going for the final step. I found an actor who'd work with me. I'm bringing her home this afternoon.""I'll have her watch me lying in bed with another woman. She can't stand the sight of me f

  • The Last Advice I Ever Gave   Chapter 6 That's the Reason

I didn't expose his lies. How could I when he was going this far to set this all up? How could I when I now knew that this was the only thing that kept him alive? My path was clear. I would play along. I had to.I jerkily rose to my feet, my face stony and deadpan. My eyes were empty as I stared at the mess on the ground. My lips felt like a distant organ as I murmured, "What's gotten into you, Quincy? If you hate this marriage that much, then we can get a divorce."The mere mention of that outcome made him stiff, but he swiveled around. I saw something akin to triumph blaze in his eyes. It was relief. Relief that his task would be over soon. However, that triumph was drowned out by a bigger despair soon after. Still, he soldiered through and answered with a snarl, "Go ahead, then! You can have the car and the house! I'm leaving with nothing, but on one condition! Don't bug me for the next few days. I'm sleeping in the guest room!"He fled into the guest room like he was escapi

  • The Last Advice I Ever Gave   Chapter 5 Verification

I couldn't take my eyes off that picture. It was Quincy's hand, I was sure of it. I could recognize that mole the size of a needle's point at the joint of his ring finger, even if it turned into ash. He'd gotten it on the day we got our marriage license. He was so excited to marry me that he poked his ring finger with the pen. That minute wound turned into that little mole.I used to kiss that mark with a smile and said it was a tattoo that signified our love. Now that photo was staring at me right in the face, and the sender was that jerk who wanted to ditch his wife.I wanted proof. I wanted verification about that tenuous, absurd thought I had. My fingers were shaking as I answered, "Tossing the present alone isn't enough. You need to crush her dignity underfoot. She's a career woman, you said? Then, destroy all her work stuff in the study. It's the most important thing she has."And then, I hit the send button.Although there was a wall dividing us, I heard something buzz in
