Chapter 17

“Walker? Your mother was a walker?” Disbelief evident in my voice.

He looked back towards me with a frown.

“What of it?”

“It’s nothing, it’s just that I had no idea that the Walker family were such an ancient one.” I sat back in my chair with a slump, the thought that Alison, Drake’s mate, was a part of the same family tree as Alexander’s mother was making my head spin.

“It’s late,” Alexander stood up, his body casting a long shadow on the ground. If he had taken note about my comment regarding his mother’s family history, he didn’t show it. Alexander looked down at me, his eyes squinted as he watched me, his fingers fiddling the locket in his hands. “It’s time for bed.”

He turned on his heels and began to make for the stairs, leaving me unsure as to what to do. Should I follow him? Or should I just sleep here, in the relative comfort of my own space, regardless of how uncomfortable a bed the lumpy cushions of the armchair made.
