Chapter 4

Author: Mister Rhapsody
After I pinned him down, I punched him in the face several times with all my strength.

He didn't have time to react. Blood spilled from his mouth.

But that disgusting smile was still on his face. "Why are you saying I'm the killer?"

I gritted my teeth and punched him a few more times. "Because I know the patient you mentioned! Christine has been dead for a long time! Why would you go visit a dead person?"

Those punches drained what little strength I had left. I had to stop for a moment and stare at him, waiting for his answer.

But I never expected him to still have the strength to fight back.

He suddenly grabbed my hair and pulled me to the ground. Then he flipped over and pinned me beneath him.

I wrapped my arms around him with all my strength, and we struggled against each other.

I looked desperately at Melvin and Ruby. "What are you waiting for? Help me! He's the killer! Once he kills me, he'll come after both of you!"

But they just stood there.

They stared at me in fear and didn't dare come any closer.

I was getting desperate. I had no choice but to fight him on my own and try to hold him down.

Then my hand touched something hard and square under his coat.

I immediately pulled it out and threw it onto the ground. "Look! This signal jammer is the evidence! He tampered with the car and blocked our cell signals. This was clearly a planned murder!"

But no matter how loudly I shouted, Melvin and Ruby didn't move.

They looked frightened at first, then confusion appeared on their faces, and they stared at each other.

Ruby's voice trembled. "What... What's going on?"

Melvin swallowed hard before answering. "I don't know! He just mentioned Christine. Does that mean he knows Christine?"

Ruby suddenly seemed to understand. "I get it! He's after all of us! Hurry! We have to stop him, or he'll kill us too!"

Melvin clenched his teeth. He gripped the wrench and quickly walked toward us.

I was curious why he hadn't attacked earlier. But the moment Ruby mentioned Christine, his whole body seemed to fill with killing intent.

I decided not to think about it.

As long as he helped me, that was enough.

I held the man in the trench coat tightly and gave Melvin a chance to attack.

Without hesitation, Melvin swung the wrench at the man's head.

But at that exact moment, the man exploded with all his strength. He twisted our positions around.

The wrench slammed into my back instead. Pain exploded through my body. My mind went blank, and I could no longer hold him down.

Everything had suddenly gotten much worse.

He broke free and lunged at Melvin.

There was nothing I could do. I lay on the ground for a long time, struggling to stay conscious.

When I finally managed to get back up, I saw the man in the trench coat holding the bloody wrench. He was smiling at me.

Melvin and Ruby were lying nearby. Their heads were covered in blood. They were both dead.

"Now it's your turn." He started walking toward me.

Fear and the threat of death gave me enough strength to stand. I backed toward the edge of the mountain road. But there was a cliff right behind me.

By then, the man in the trench coat seemed to have used up most of his strength too.

He raised the wrench and swung it at me. But he suddenly lost his balance and fell. The wrench slipped from his hand and landed on the ground.

I immediately rushed over and grabbed it.

I was about to fight back when he turned his back to me and started laughing at the cliff. "Do you really think you're going to survive?"

Before I could react, he jumped off the cliff.

I stared at the spot where he had disappeared in complete shock.

I couldn't understand why he had chosen to kill himself.

My whole body hurt, and my mind was a complete mess.

The rain grew heavier and heavier. I couldn't hold on any longer and passed out.

I didn't know how much time had passed when I vaguely heard voices nearby.

"We've already examined the scene. Based on the evidence, he's the only killer."

My eyes flew open. But I was surrounded by police officers. They were putting handcuffs on me.

I struggled in panic. "I'm not the killer! I'm a victim! The killer jumped off the cliff!"

But the officers still roughly pulled me to my feet and dragged me toward a police car.

And just like that, I became the murderer.

  • The Last Passenger   Chapter 9

I stared blankly at Elias. I couldn't understand what he meant.Christine had been dead for three years. I couldn't understand what her death had to do with the murders from last night. After a moment, Elias asked another question: "Caleb, do you remember why Christine was in the car accident?"She was the woman I had loved more than anyone. Of course I should have known.I instinctively tried to answer. But then I realized something terrifying. I couldn't remember what had caused Christine's accident or what had happened before it.The only thing I remembered was that she had died on my operating table. After that, I had quit my job because I was overwhelmed with grief. Then I had left Drakemoor, the place that held so many painful memories. But I couldn't remember why I had returned to Vellenmark.I couldn't even remember how Christine had died.I started hitting my head with my fists. "Remember! Come on, remember!"Elias quickly called a doctor and had me given another sedative. He

My head started hurting again. I had no idea what was happening to me.But Elias immediately pulled out a photograph and spoke in a sharp voice. "Caleb, you said your car broke down. Do you remember how it happened?"I couldn't answer.I couldn't think clearly at all. I could only sit there and take in whatever information he gave me.The photograph in Elias's hand showed a car that had been taken apart and badly damaged.Elias pointed at it. "This is your car. You damaged it yourself. You wanted to study how cars were built so you could figure out how to make Melvin's car break down on the road."Does your head still hurt? You still can't remember? Then watch Melvin's dashcam footage. We've already recovered it."Do you see it? There were only four people in the car from beginning to end. There was never any man in a trench coat."Everything the man in the trench coat said and did in your statement was actually said and done by you."Melvin and Ruby were talking to you the entire time

  • The Last Passenger   Chapter 7

"Do you really think you're going to survive?"I quietly repeated the words the man in the trench coat had said before jumping off the cliff. He had planned everything from the beginning. His goal was to kill everyone else and pin the murders on me."Haha, Officer, stop pretending. You must have used your authority to alter the ride records and make me look guilty..."The officer beside Elias suddenly stood up and slammed his hand on the table. "Caleb, watch your words! You know better than anyone whether you killed them. Do you really think making up some imaginary person will get you out of this?"Of course I knew.I had watched the man in the trench coat kill Melvin and Ruby with my own eyes. He had even tried to kill me.Yet now, the police were calling me the murderer. My anger reached its limit. Strangely, that was when I became calm. I closed my eyes and stopped talking. No matter what they asked, I refused to answer.Elias placed my earlier statement in front of me. "Caleb, acc

I glared at him through clenched teeth. "I'm telling you again. I didn't kill anyone! If you've already decided to frame me, then why bother pretending to question me? Just convict me!"But I want to see how you're going to erase the evidence left by the man in the trench coat. He's dead, but his ride history still exists on the app. Aren't you afraid the truth will come out?"I clenched my fists in anger.A hint of confusion appeared in Elias's cold eyes.He quietly gave an order to the officer beside him.The officer immediately stood up and left the room.Only then did Elias look back at me. "Please tell us everything that happened yesterday. Don't leave out a single detail. If there really was a fifth person, we won't wrongfully accuse you."I wondered if he had changed his attitude because he was starting to worry. But I also felt some of the tension leave my body, and I began to recall everything that had happened the night before. Then I told them the entire story from the momen

  • The Last Passenger   Chapter 5

I was sitting in the back seat of the police car, trapped between two officers. They clearly thought I was a dangerous murderer."I didn't kill anyone!" I shouted desperately. "The real killer jumped off the cliff! If you search the area now, you'll find his body!"But the two officers beside me didn't answer. The officer in the passenger seat turned around and glanced at me.I had heard the other officers call him Captain Thompson, so I immediately struggled against the handcuffs. "I'm not lying! You're police officers. Can't you find the evidence the killer left behind? Did the rain last night wash everything away? No! That's impossible! His blood is still here. Look!"I raised my blood-covered fist. "When I discovered that he was the killer, I fought him and injured his face. Take this blood for testing! You'll be able to identify the real killer!"Elias Thompson only stared at me coldly. He looked at me as if I were some kind of monster. As if I were a vicious murderer. "There is n
