For days, Mercedes was on foot trying to put distance between her and her old town. Every minute and every second counted. She wondered if anyone found out about what happened a few nights ago. If anyone came upon the horrendous scene that will scar the town for good. She knew that they will look for her for questioning but she did not want to be found. Confusion still swarmed her mind and she did not even know what the hell happened that night. Just that she was fighting for her life as two men were dragging her out of the house. Nothing after that.

It was cold and she was trying her best to keep warm. Her feet were already numb for walking without resting for a long time but she could afford to take a rest. Not now. Time was of the essence. The problem was that she had nowhere to go and no one in her life. All her life she just had those awful people who supposedly gave her life. They hated her and they made her feel their hatred every day of her life with them. The scars on her body were evidence of that.

Come to think of it, it was their fault that she was in this predicament today. Had it not been for them and their uncontrollable gambling problem there wouldn't be a need for them to sell her to pay off their debt. Deep down she was relieved that one nightmare had ended. Their reign of terror over her was over. Even though the scene she woke up in still haunts her and keeps her awake.

Never in her life did she think she would be surrounded by death or gaze into lifeless eyes. She shuddered from that more than the cold night. She could not help but keep looking behind to see if anyone was following her. Because of the cold, she was able to cover up herself more than enough without looking suspicious to the onlookers. Only her wild green eyes were left visible.

She hoped that she would find someplace where no one knows her and she could settle down and forget the horrifying crappy past and erase it. If she was not yet wanted by the police.

One thing bothered her. Who would be so heartless to kill those four people? And why did they leave her, why didn't they kill her like the other? If that person was found it would be her only salvation from being the suspect of murder. With fingers crossed, she hoped they nabbed the person before her life spirals out of control.

After walking for almost the whole day, she spotted a roadside. It was in a deserted area and not many people were around. The perfect place for her to rest and get something in her into her stomach. Looking cautiously around she crossed the street and entered the dinner. The bells chimed at the door indicating her arrival. The few people in the looked at her and she made sure not to look anyone in the eyes.

She walked over to the empty booth in the far corner of the small diner. It was warm inside and she started getting hot underneath all those clothes covering her up. But she was not going to risk it by removing them and exposing herself to these people. She had not heard the news so she was not sure about the status quo.

Soon enough, a waiter stood in front of her ready to take her order. She knew she could not afford to take a look at the menu because she probably couldn't afford anything there.

" Good evening mam. What can I get you," the waiter asked with a bored expression and chewing gum loudly. It was a rude thing but she was used to it. Mercedes never knew anyone who genuinely respected her or showed her some respect. All the people she knew looked down on her or maybe she was simply undeserving of anything. Not good parents, a good home, a good upbringing, or a good life. She was a magnet for trouble.

" Uh... I'll have the cheapest thing on your menu, please." The waiter gave her a look before walking away. It was a judgemental look but she couldn't care less. As soon as she eats and gets a move on the better it would be for her. The waiter was back with a sandwich and dropped it on the table and left without a word. Mercedes stared at the table where the sandwich was dropped. There was no plate it was just the bread with cheese, lettuce, and a slice of tomato.

She removed the gloves on her finger and wiggled them a bit to bring back the feeling. She clenched them so much that they were cramping and sore. After the mini finger exercise str picked up the bread and turned herself slightly so she could pull down the scarf on her face. She eagerly munched down on the sandwich until it was all gone. That would be enough to keep her up until she gets somewhere.

Mercedes put down a dollar on the table and stood up to leave. She stepped out of the diner and saw motorcycles packed with bikers. They looked like they were about to come in. Some of them looked at her with intrigue, sending a quiver down her spine and she realized that she did not cover her mouth. She pulled the scarf on her mouth and tried hard not to tremble in their unwavering gaze. One of the guys specifically caught her eye because of his nasty scar that looked like an animal slashed him. Slowly she moved out of the way and walked without looking back.

She was shrouded in cold yet again. Mercedes trembled as she tried to reign in her emotions. All those overwhelming feelings were building up pressure on her and wanted to be released but as I said, there was no time for her to shatter and feel weak. She had to keep going and she had to start strong. She needed the strength to run from what is now her past.

But worry clouded her. Where was she going and would she be received well? Would her past catch up to her faster than a bat out hell? Or would she just end up on the streets with no place to call home? Tears started welling up but she bit her button lip so hard so that she would not cry out. It was already getting darker but she was thankful for the street lights.

But her luck was starting to run out. She hadn't noticed a man following behind her at a fair distance. Like it was a sixth sense, Mercedes heard the heavy footsteps of the man from the distance he was and she peeked behind her to see if he was following her. She could not miss the noticeable scar that caught her attention earlier. She turned back quickly and started picking up the pace. He did the same and his intentions were clear to her.

With no other choice, she began to run. She crossed the street and headed for the dense forest. Mercedes was surprised as to why she would run from one danger to another imminent danger. She was running from a strange scarred biker man into a forest with wild animals. How would that help? But she kept running, glancing behind her to see the man not far behind her. The many days of walking without rest were catching up to her. She was already out of breath but fear pushed her to keep running. She leaped and ducked tree branches but it was hard because it was dark.

Suddenly the moon illuminated the forest giving her some vision for a way ahead. The man was not far behind. But her speed and agility were remarkable. She never ran this much in her life but she was good. Then the strangest thing happened. She heard the breaking of bones and growls behind her. Mercedes thought it was a wild animal but what she saw was left her speechless. The man chasing her was transforming into a beast. She knew because she still had his clothes on which were getting ripped apart. Her eyes widened and she tripped over a root. She was bewildered and her heartbeat echoed in her ears.

She was on the ground and the man was fully transformed into a werewolf but bigger than a normal werewolf. It was an ash-colored wolf with red eyes and a big ass snout. It was a fucking Twilight scene and he was growling and baring his sharp canine teeth. He sure was not Jacob and he was ready to attack her. All hope was lost for her. She was exhausted and her limbs were so. No one would help her because it was just the both of them.

Her breaths were hastened and her eyes were focused on the predator in front of her. Mercedes thought that karma was too quick to catch up to her. She just closed her eyes and accepted fate as it was. Maybe God was trying to put her out of her misery. She thought she was going to die the same horrid death as the others did. But she heard more than one growl around her and wolves much bigger than the first one emerged from the shadows. 3 large wolves almost the size of an SUV. They were more than just big, they were majestic. Their eyes were yellow and bright.

Mercedes did not know whether to be terrified or fascinated by them because right now they were having a face-off with scarface. She stayed on the ground and did not move an inch to bring attention to herself. But somehow her fear just went away. She was still shocked because it was obviously too much to take in all at once but she felt rather safe. Her heart rate decreased to normal and she took deep breaths to feel the cold air of the night in her lungs and feel alive. She slowly got up and dusted herself off but never for a single moment took her eyes off the 4 werewolves.

To her surprise, scarface slowly retreated without turning his back and slowly went into the shadow of the trees. Mercedes was now confused. She kind of expected a ground-shaking battle or something but nothing happened. How did that happen because no one said a word? Or maybe scarface just understood that he was outnumbered.

Interesting beginning. I wonder which one is her mate. The eye color is unique. I hope it was her that killed those people and I hope she gets even with her "parents".

Mercedes held her breath when the attention of the 3 werewolves was on her now. She was in the spotlight but she was not afraid. Initially, she thought starting a new life would be easy but in a few moments, a realization dawned on her. Like that man chased her, her past would be on her tail, following her everywhere she goes. So she stood her ground. Running was clearly not the solution so she had to face whatever came on her head-on. I mean what could be worse than what she had to face in the past few days till now. The 3 wolves analyzed her but never approached her. They looked much calmer than before and none threatening. Even she could not understand how they were not doing anything but just staring at her. And if no one stood against those rogues, the werewolf's existence would be under threat. Felix was in his study managing paperwork for his pack's affairs. He was the Alpha of the White Claw Pack and he was responsible for everything that concerned his pack. And now his main aim was to protect all his pack members from the feral rogues. The rogues have attacked many surrounding packs but he managed to save many of them and claim their lands to expand his pack. If the Alphas were not dead, he offered them to remain in their position but he had the ultimate control. Last night an incident happened by the park borders. A human girl was about to be atta

  • The Last White Wolf   Chapter 4

It felt so surreal. Mercedes felt at peace and relaxed for the first time. She was not scared or anxious that anything bad would happen and it was a strange feeling considering how people are at the hospital because of something bad. It had just been 5 days and she was already getting used to the hospital room she was in. Everyone she met treated her well and catered to her everyone's needs no matter how small it seemed. Although she had a feeling that it had something to do with her good and first friend ever, Crystal. Crystal had been a Godsend to her. She came more than necessary to check on her. But she was not complaining. It was like she understood her. She didn't want to be all alone and feel that eerie loneliness again. When Crystal came over she would talk all about her life and how an amazing family she has. Her husband loved her to bits. She even told her she was pregnant with her first child. In all that time she felt like she got to know her completely and tha

Crystal brought Mercedes fresh clothes since her's were torn. They were both silent, trying not to make the situation even worse. Crystal briefed Mercedes on what she had to know because she asked. She was said that her friend was going to leave and never remember. It was probably not a good idea to form an attachment with her. She couldn't help herself. Mercedes was just shy and sweet. Unlike like the females in her pack. Crystal was only treated well by the rest of them because she was mated to a Beta. If it wasn't for that, she wouldn't even be here. Every privilege she gets is because of her mate's status in the pack. Although she is grateful, it is not enough. She wanted people to like her for who she is not who she is with. She doesn't want fake respect or concern like that. With Mercedes, it was different. She didn't know anything about her and she liked her for her personality and character. In that short time, they established a solid bond that would soon break.

Alexa was in a daze not knowing how Mercedes could intercept her magic. After all, she was just a human so how was she doing that. Felix, Jake, and Crystal, we're confused and waiting for Alexa to tell them what happened. Mercedes was as confused as the rest of them. She was just starting at Alexa weirdly. " What is it, Alexa. What happened?" Felix asked approaching her. Alexa shook her head and placed her fingers on Mercedes again. This time she used maximum power to see if she would be able to block that too. Mercedes gasped and started convulsing and elevated. Her eyes were wide and her mouth agape as Alexa's magic navigated her mind. Alexa was once again unable to penetrate her mind enough to erase her memories. She retracted her power and Mercedes slowly calmed down and fell on the floor. Crystal panicked and ran to her and kneeled in front of her. She gently placed her head on her lap and caressed her hair and face. " Mercedes wake up!" she exclaimed tapping li

Felix had summoned all his pack members to the training grounds to address th if the new situation. Everyone was murmuring amongst themselves about what they thought their Alpha called them for. Some of them knew it was about the mysterious human girl they have seen around. They even heard she was rescued in the woods from a feral rogue. Now it would finally make sense. They would know about her and not just speculate of might be going on. Felix stood tall and serious in front of his subjects. All of their murmurs hushed in recognition of his presence. He beckoned a scared Mercedes to come out from behind him. She was not used to so many eyes on her much less Werewolf eyes. She wished that the earth could open up and swallow her whole. Mercedes felt so embarrassed and inferior to their supernatural superiority. She was at their mercy. She imagined all of them turning off her and attacking her and having a feast. A horrific thing to imagine. She shook her head to get it str

The following couple of days, Felix tried as hard as he could to avoid Mercedes. To be honest, it was not so hard because she spent so much time helping out at the clinic but he couldn't take any chances. With the hope of finding his mate looming, he didn't think it wise to develop feelings for someone other than a mate. It would not end well for anyone involved. But he was still concerned by the mysterious pull he felt for her. Her green eyes held more than meets the eye and he felt it in his bones. It was not accounted for and he never thought it would happen. It was like someone possessed him to feel that way about her. Mercedes was diligently helping out Crystal as much as she could. There were not a lot of patients because one of the perks of being supernatural is that you don't get sick regularly like human beings. She envied that amongst other things but thinking about it, she never got sick too much. In fact, she couldn't remember the last time she fell sick. The

The packhouse was bustling with cheer spirit. Everyone was preparing for the upcoming celebrations. The full moon ceremony was underway and it was a joyous time for all werewolves. Felix stood on the terrace of the house looking outside. It was yet another ceremony he would have to go through without his mate. Every year he would be eager to get involved and celebrate in hopes that it would appease the Goddess and he would finally meet his mate but it never happened. He stopped feeling excited about it altogether. It was just another day of constant anguish and disappointment. What surprised him was seeing Mercedes helping out the others with setting things up. Of course, she was with Crystal but the smile plastered on her face while she was busy. A ray of sunshine that lit up any gloomy day. Of course, he would not admit it to anyone but he kinda likes her. He kept an eye on her but not in a creepy way just in an "I hope you don't do something stupid" way. When he first m

You forced me into a position where I had to lie for you unnecessary just because I could. You made me a tool for your ambitions. So what if I was born with privileges and not you. A whole 2 to 3 minutes went by and the girls fidgeted without saying anything. For Mercedes it was getting unbearable. She felt that Yuna was too sensitive and it would be difficult to speak to her in case she said something that would trigger her to lose her cool. Nonetheless, they couldn't just stand there the whole day without saying a word to each other, although Mercedes was tempted to just say bye and walk away. That would be blatantly rude so she refrained. She sighed. It's either she would say soemtging or this would not go anywhere. It didn't seem like Yuna was going to say anything so it was up to her. It escape Mercedes that Yuna looked unwell. She was palace and lacked her usual glow. " Look, I know both of us would rather be elsewhere right now so I'll make it quick." " I'msorry!" " Before we proceed, tell me what's been going on here, while I was away. Anything unusual?" Alexa looked at Mercedes as she asked her. Mercedes sighed. She was planning to hide it from her but as things stand, keeping secrets from each other might not be wise. She can't trust anyone in Vaughnorths except for Alexa. " I had an incident the other day, with the head of the academy's daughter, Yuna. She found me in the library and made a scene about me not being allowed to be in there. Things got heated and she ended up slapping me." Fuming, Alexa shot up and said, " She did what?! How dare she?" " Please, Alexa. It's not a big deal. I'm fine." Mercedes begged trying to calm her down. " No, it's not. That brat is just like her mother. They think they can just do anything and get away with it. Not on my watch. I will teach that girl a lesson." Alexa looked really angry but Mercedes thought she was overreacting. She seemed determined to go and give Yuna and her mother a piece o

She had her suspicions but in order to confirm her suspicions she had to go to Alvira to investigate. At the moment, she wanted to go and check on Mercedes to see the demage done to her. She only hoped that she didn't suffer much demage or it's going to be something else. She went to Mercedes's rook and found her still sleeping. She usually gets up early so that was a bit strange. Without waking her up, Alexa used her powers to check her internally. She closed her eyes and concentrated. Mercedes's vitals were unstable and her primordial spirit had taken a hit. So that was their goal. Alexa concluded that someone must have tempered with the energy at the temple so it is overwhelming for Mercedes targeting to demage her primordial spirit. She proceeded to try and heal her as best as she could. It would take a toll on her but she had to do

Felix's POV To say he was happy, was an understatement. Today he would get to spend time with his mate. He was grateful for this moment, no matter how little it is. He had her all to himself for the next few hours. It's been hard for Felix to be away from her but he know and understood that it has been so hard on her as well. She has to sacrifice the most in this situation and Felix doesn't want to add to her troubles. That would be selfish of him. Hand in hand, they walked through the woods heading to the lake. Felix left Josh in charge of everything in the meantime. He held on to her hand, never letting it slip because it felt like he would never be able to hold it again. I'm trying so hard to be optimistic but it is so hard to live without her. I absolutely hate it but I hate more that I am completely helpless.
