Evenly's POV

I made my way to Rhydor’s chambers, my heart steady but my mind racing with excitement. The evening had to go perfectly, everything needed to fall into place. When I reached his door, I took a moment, smoothing my dress one last time, ensuring every detail was flawless.

With a soft knock, I entered.

Rhydor looked up from his desk, where he’d been buried in papers, his brow furrowed as usual. But when his gaze landed on me, his expression shifted. I could see the moment his breath caught, the flicker of admiration in his eyes.

“Evenly,” he greeted, his voice warm but tired. “You look… beautiful.”

I smiled, stepping closer. “Thank you, darling.” My voice was soft, seductive, the way I always spoke when I needed him to see me, and not the cold woman I often portrayed.

I perched on the edge of his desk, letting the scent of perfume and the soft rustling of silk draw his attention. "I thought we might have a quiet dinner tonight. Just the two of us. No distractions.”

Sophia There was something different in the air.I couldn’t quite explain it, but I felt it the moment I stepped out into the corridor that morning. The usual weight pressing down on my chest felt… lighter. Almost like the walls of the palace weren’t trying to crush me for once.Elera had already gone to her training class, leaving me alone with my thoughts and the faint echo of yesterday’s conversation still dancing in my mind.“He looked at me like I was something worth noticing.”I sighed, brushing my fingers along the smooth banister as I made my way toward the gardens. I needed air needed space from the questions that never stopped swirling.Like… why did he look at me like that? Why can’t I stop thinking about him?But those weren’t the only questions on my mind anymore. Two days ago, my father had looked so tired. Distant, as usual. He asked me if I’d met anyone at the mating ball and I told him no. I’d lied. I don’t know why I just… panicked. Maybe I didn’t want him to laugh.

RhydorThe council chamber was colder than usual, or maybe it was just me. The polished obsidian table reflected the flickering flames of the sconces, casting shadows across the tired, judgmental faces of the elders seated around it.I took my place at the head of the table, shoulders squared, heart steady.“Alpha Rhydor,” Elder Thorne began, stroking his silver beard like he already knew what I was here for. “We assumed this meeting was to discuss your daughter’s future, about her marriage since she didn't meet her fated mate. Has a match been confirmed? A warrior perhaps? Someone who wouldn’t mind the lack of a wolf.”Evenly sat across from me, her eyes gleaming, her lips already curled into that satisfied smile.I let them all sit in their assumptions for just a breath longer.“No,” I said clearly. “No match has been confirmed. Nor will one be forced.”Silence.I felt the ripple of tension the moment the words left my mouth.Evenly stiffened. “Rhydor…”I raised a hand, silencing he

Rhydor’s POV The door shut behind Evenly with a final click, but her words lingered like a foul stench in the air.Wolfless. Useless. A liability.I stared out the window, my hands still clenched on the edge of the desk. The trees swayed gently in the wind beyond the Silverfang Palace walls,so peaceful out there. So different from the storm brewing inside me.She wanted to give my daughter away like a broken tool. Like she was nothing more than an inconvenience to be traded off for peace. But Sophia is not nothing. She’s everything.I’ve failed her too many times already. Every bruise she’s hidden, every tear she’s wiped alone,I knew. I saw it all. And yet I did nothing. For the sake of the pack. For the sake of the peace Evenly so righteously claims to protect. But how do I protect a daughter I was never allowed to raise properly? My wolf, Garron, growled low in the back of my mind. He had been restless since the mating ball. He didn’t like the way Evenly spoke of Sophia, our pup.Sh

Evevly’s POV The damp chamber smelled of mildew and secrecy, the dim candlelight barely illuminating the hooded figure kneeling before me. I crossed my arms, my patience wearing thin.“You better have good news,” I snapped, my voice cold as ice. “I don’t tolerate failure.”The spy lifted her head slightly, her sharp eyes glinting in the low light. “I did as you commanded, Luna. I watched the girl closely during the ball.”A slow smirk tugged at my lips. “And?”She hesitated for a brief moment, and my fingers twitched in irritation. “She caught the attention of a powerful man,” she finally admitted. My blood ran cold before it boiled with fury. My nails dug into my palm as I stepped closer. “Who?” I demanded.“I—I do not know his name,” she stammered, her voice careful. “But he is no ordinary wolf. His presence was commanding, overwhelming. When he looked at her, it was as if the entire room ceased to exist.”Rage coiled in my chest like a viper ready to strike. That wretched girl was

Amy's pov I clenched my fists as I walked out of Damon's chamber, my heels clicking against the polished marble floor. Never had he refused me before. Never. But tonight, he had pushed me away, his usual hunger absent, his mind clearly somewhere else. The rejection burned like acid in my veins. The palace halls felt colder than ever as I made my way out. The guards nodded in acknowledgment, but I barely noticed them. My heart pounded in my chest, my mind racing with questions. Was it because of that girl? The one he had been searching for? The one who had haunted him ever since the mating ball?I stormed into my house, slamming the door behind me. The silence inside was deafening. My breath came in short, angry gasps as I grabbed the crystal vase from the table, one of my most treasured pieces. Without a second thought, I hurled it across the room.CRASH!The shards scattered across the floor, a perfect reflection of my shattered pride.A gasp came from behind me. I turned sharply to
