Ashina couldn't believe that Hrolf would want her to sign the document and subject herself to slavery. Doing that would give him power over her.

Satisfied with her cleaning, she scanned the sparkling-clean pantry before she walked out of the room.

Ashina paused in her tracks, gripping the banister tight when she heard voices coming from the top floor. She contemplated if eavesdropping on them was a good idea.

Her curiosity got the better part of her as she swirled around on the staircase towards Hrolf's study where the noise was coming from.

"I can't believe he escaped."

Ashina frowned when she heard Hrolf speaking. He sounded so angry and it made her heart thump with unease.

"Are you sure he was there?" She heard him ask.

"He was there. I am very sure."

Ashina recognized the female voice. It was Cassie's.

"Then it doesn't make sense! He had no reason to escape! He didn't even know we were coming."
