CHAPTER 47

****One week later****

“How is my boy?” The emperor asked the maid on duty as he watched her clean up his frail body. It broke his heart to see his once energetic child in such a vegetative state. He had spent years training him, and now he had been reduced to such a state.

“Your majesty, our young lord's condition is getting worse. The physicians have tried everything possible to stabilize him, but he is still frail. We now have to give him his medication several times a day to sustain him, unlike the usual two times a day we did before,” the servant reported.

“Get me the general,” the emperor said, staring intently at his son's vegetative state.

“You sent for me, Your Highness,” the general said with a bow.

“I sent you to find anything we could leverage against that witch, and you are yet to report back. It should be you who is bedridden and useless. Give me two reasons why your head should remain attached to your incompetent body,” the emperor said.

CHAPTER 98~Months Ago~Through sheer design, Marcus created the perfect half-bloods. After dozens of failures, fractures, and deaths, Marcus made the perfect bloodline. They were obedient, powerful, and stable. The most important thing was that their strength could improve. There was no cap to their growth. He did it: half-wolf, half-vampire. No longer feral insane wolves, they were no longer bound. They were his in blood, in bone, and will.He called them the hybrids. Each one sired with his blood and the heart's essence. They weren’t just loyal, they were bound. They heard and answered when he whispered. They were his legacy. The first five stood before him in the forgotten chamber of the temple of the Reds.Tall and emotionless.Male and female alike, indistinguishable in cruelty and beauty. Eyes, reddish brown, glowing softly in the darkness. They were designed to grow and evolve, no dreams or aspirations, only Marcus and the heart inside their heads. They did not lose their

  • The Lone Wolf   CHAPTER 97

CHAPTER 97~Years After The War~Marcia sat there, bleeding, and breathing hard. His wolf healing had already kicked in but she gave him a deep cut so it took longer to heal. He didn’t call the sentries to chase her down, ask for help, or even activate the lockdown. He just stared at the empty hallway. And for the first time in years, he felt afraid. Not of her but of what she meant. The experiment worked too well. She wasn’t a mistake. She was an evolution and he had lost control of her. She was no longer his. She could easily sabotage his plans and years of hard work.He whispered her name, the one she remembered. “Elise.”And for the first time, he didn’t feel like a god or a builder. He felt like a man who cracked open a cage and released a new species. His mind was preoccupied with thoughts of how to tame this new species. With that thought in mind, he decided to track Elise. There was no way he would let his subject roam the lands freely and ruin his decades of hard work. T

  • The Lone Wolf   CHAPTER 96

CHAPTER 96 ~Years After The War~ The highlands were colder now, not by seasons, but by silence. Life gradually returned to normal for humans. They did not have to live in constant dread of the bloodsucking creatures. They did not need to fear for the safety of their loved ones. They were indebted to the Versipellis. No more cries of Vrykolakas, or war drums. No more marching wolves or running to the frontline. Just the slow reclaiming of land by trees, and underbrush where bodies once burned, moss covering battle scars. Giving the land a luscious green appearance. And a solitary stone kept hidden in the cliffs above the vale, forgotten by most except him. Marcus. The monarch had relegated the four cardinals to look over each region and protect the humans then he vanished from the face of the earth. Who could blame him? The man had just lost his mate. There was no point to life. Marcus lived like a ghost, not among wolves or men but somewhere in between just like the ideas tha

  • The Lone Wolf   CHAPTER 95

CHAPTER 95A Century AgoIrene’s mouth opened, no scream, just breath, a gasp.Aaron was still running but he was too far away. The king whispered something as the light swallowed him.Only Irene was close enough to hear him. Then he crumbled to ash. And Irene….….. dropped to her knees.Blood blooming across her armor like a flower.Aaron caught her before she hit the ground. He dropped to his knees, arms around her, pulling her into his lap, her blood soaking his hands, his face, his soul, and what was left of his broken heart. He held her with his hands soaked in her blood.“Irene—no—no, please—stay with me, please—“Her lips moved. He leaned in closer. She whispered, “You lived. That's enough.”“No,” he said. “No, no, no, stay with me.”She smiled faintly. “I did it,” she whispered. She reached up, fingers weak, trembling, and touched his face one last time. Her palm smeared blood across his cheek. A mark of love and goodbye.“I… love… youu,” she gasped with her dying breath,

  • The Lone Wolf   CHAPTER 94

CHAPTER 94A Century AgoAaron and Mavira tore each other apart. They fought like they had nothing left to lose, there was no strategy or calculation, just pure unadulterated rage and fury. Aaron's shoulder broke on the third blow. He cracked the king's ribs with a savage kick. The king landed a strike deep into Aaron's thighs and drove his claws into his gut. Aaron threw him like a doll against a stone as he limped away creating breathing space. On the ridge, Irene saw everything. She tried to stay back and allow Aaron to fight his battles like usual. She tried to lead the Versipellis, to protect them like a queen, like their Luna. But when she saw him, Aaron, limping, barely able to stand, and drenched in blood, her heart shattered. She pulled the relic free from under her cloak. It was hot. Pulsed with breath like a living thing. It hummed with power that felt ancient and powerful. Power that was almost impossible to grasp.Irene raised the relic high. And in that moment, it was

  • The Lone Wolf   CHAPTER 93

CHAPTER 93A Century AgoAaron carved his way through the battlefield with his claws. Every step he took ended the life of a foe and brought him closer to Mavira, the Vrykolakas king. The leader of the blood suckers, the heart of evil and corruption, the rot behind the throne. He sustained numerous injuries and his body screamed with torn muscles and broken ribs, but he didn’t stop.He couldn’t.Not with his mate, Irene fighting behind him.Not with the rage burning in his heart and his people watching. Not with the weight of centuries pressing on his spine. He leapt over a burning barricade and slammed his shoulder into a shrieking creature, cracking its jaw with his elbow before driving his claws into its heart. Another came, he cleaved it in two with a single stroke. The circle continued over and over again. The king stood just beyond the carnage, calm and monstrous. His eyes were deep, hollow, and expressionless as though he were merely a spectator and not part of the battle un
